I had a bad experience. The portion sizes were small. Im mainly upset about the fact that I had 2 tiny shrimp pieces in my shrimp chow mein. I ordered my food through door dash, so maybe thats why my food quality was so low. Wont eat from little shin shin again.

Eat in or take out Lil shin shin is one of my long time favorite Chinese food restraunts. Some of our favorite dishes: shin shin special prawns, shrimp fried rice, potstickers, dried cooked string beans w/chicken or shrimp(no spicey), chicken chow mien, spring rolls and garlic spinach.

I found a bug in my food. Gross!!! They gave me 10% off. Then gave me $ 5 short on my change back. Not to mention their attitude when I called them on it. Don’t think about going here. And their prawns are really shrimp.

This little gem has been a family favorite for 8 years– when we’re in the area, it’s always a treat to stop by for their lunch special and order our absolute favorite: honey walnut prawns over rice! Their salad with house dressing is amazing, I always ask for more! They know my family and I so well, they know our entire order before we even say it! Ya, kind of a big deal! Just kidding. Try this spot out, they’ve won so many awards from the past 10 – 15 years that vouch that it’s the«Best Chinese Food in Oakland.» Say whattttttttt

I have been to this place plenty of times and don’t get me wrong the food is not that bad. However, the experience I received this past Saturday was the last time I will ever and I mean EVER go to this place. How can a couple that came in after us 20 mins to be exact — order food and get all there food items before my family. Of course we order before they even came in but how in the hell does their food come out before mine. We both order fried rice and honey walnut prawn. My mother called the waiter over and asked where was the rest of our food. he replies«It had to cook a little longer» WHAT?! How. when they asked for the same thing and when it finally came out. it was COLD! We payed for the food and what happens next — One of the servers comes chasing after us and asked«Was everything okay? You forgot to tip your server». I’m sorry you don’t get a tip for service like that and you are not suppose to chase after customer either. I DONE with this place and will never step foot back in

Just to set the record straight, I’ve been coming here ever since I sat in a high chair. And over the last decade the service has changed. This used to be the one place me an my family would go for holidays and events, but now when we are thinking of places to go we reminisce about how good this place used to be. We usually ordered the wonton soup with potstickers and the Little Shin Shin special prawns and broccoli and beef. Lately when we’ve come in the potstickers have been cold and the wonton soup doesn’t have that amazing flavor that it used to. It’s a shame because I’ve been coming here for 15+ years and there is one of the staff that has stayed consistently sweet and amazing for all these years. I forgot his name — but he is great. Some of the older women have been a little abrupt… And it’s definitely not on the cheaper side of things. Hopefully they get more staff is the problem is understaffing, or maybe I just need to give it more time :/

The food was good, but it took a while to be served and receive the food. You have to tell them you want something to drink otherwise you’ll only be drinking water and green tea. I’d just go somewhere else. The bathroom was nasty as well.

Two Things I must say about Little Shin Shin. 1)The Shrimp, Chicken, and Chinese Sausage over rice Lunch Special is excellently tasty. 2)Dennis the service who has been at Little Shin Shin for DECADES is simply 5STAREXCELLENT. This main never fails to show the highest quality of customer service gets out dishes out fast and with a warm and friendly smile. Dennis always remembers my name and makes you really feel welcome. In my opinion Dennis should OWN Little Shin Shin by now or at less get a large cut of the profits. He has worked hard enough and deserves to have whatever good thing comes from working there so long. Dennis is a AWESOME waiter, and more important a really warm hearted, caring, and kind person. Little Shin Shin is luck to have him.

Filthy and dirty. Everywhere. The floors are nasty and the walls have splattered food. The dust on the art work is horrible and the place doesn’t look as if it has been cleaned for a very long time. My table had a large piece of thick plastic on top with large food stains underneath the plastic and on the sides. The corners of the walls have built up grime and the maroon carpeting is torn and frayed with dark stains and walked on food. At around at 5:00 in the afternoon — before the rush, there is littler and food on the carpet, still walked on from lunch. I ordered the wor won ton soup and the won tons looked and had the texture of soaked toilet paper. The shrimp smelled of ammonia and I could not eat them. The string bean dish with scallops was horrible as well. The string beans were not fresh or crispy, they were limp and again, the scallops could not be eaten… they smelled really bad. When I got home two of us had diarrhea and stomach gurgles for several hours. Avoid this place and if you don’t… beware… eat here at your own risk.

«Jewish Christmas» at Little Shin Shin was perfect. We ordered over the phone and although they were a bit off with their estimate on when the food would be ready, it was worth the wait.

I don’t know if I’ll go back here. 3 stars is only because food was decent and the 2nd server who took over gained some of my respect back. I have only Unilocaled once before because of such a lousy experience. I am Unilocaling again because of such a lousy server. I come from serving and bar tending and don’t believe in Unilocal other than the occasional lesson learned from someone who doesn’t come off as some sort of critic. I use it as a manager where I work to help staff understand how or why we could/should have done a better job of serving our customers. That said. Spent 15 mins waiting without a word from anyone. We were in no rush but that’s a bit long to wait without a «hello» or «I’ll be with you shortly.» After giving up on being patient, because no server likes being flagged down by inpatient customers, I looked around until I made eye contact with who appeared to be our server. Smiled with a nod. When he came up and asked if we were ready to order I kindly said yes thank you. HEREITIS. I’m told by my server I should have closed my menu so he knew we were ready. Mind you I’m one of three with an open menu and clearly haven’t been reading it for about 10 mins. First of all, what if I had a question about a menu item? Or, maybe I’m the kinda person who reads from the menu so I make sure I get my order correct. Just to give a couple examples. Either way I check on tables with open menus just to be sure I can attend to any needs prior to the order. Or just acknowledge my damn customers to let them know I’m there for them. Secondly. I’m a paying customer.(This comes off really arrogant but I mean this constructively) You’re here to serve me. Not the other way around. Don’t insult your customers intelligence, especially when you’ve already failed in the first steps of mediocre table service. As a server, I’m not there to school you on how I think you should present yourself before I even attempt to address any potential needs or questions. «You should close your menu so I know you’re ready for me to take your order.» Really? Usually I just check on my tables. And not after they’ve been sitting there for 15 mins and I’ve got a full wait staff to help run the show. Then my soup bowl somewhat recklessly dropped in front of me? And nicely placed in front of my mother and grandmother? That’s fine. Still, please and thank you all night. Thankfully, the next server was more attentive. That was about another 15 mins after we received our food(in good time) with no check up. Again, I’m in this industry. I’m not picky. Don’t need anyone there to treat me special. I just don’t like to be offended or told how they think I should be before they will approach for service. I get it. This place has been around for years blah blah blah. Maybe they don’t care. Fine, too. That’s not what a few friends told me when they recommended it to me. Sadly, it will take some convincing for me to return. Enjoy that 20% tip buddy. Will be your last from me. Thanks for reading.

I’ve now tried this place a few times… Hoping that it would get better. I can’t believe they won Best of the East Bay. The interior is pretty run down. The décor is marginal. The food … Well… It’s pretty bad. Not in an unhealthy way — in a disappointingly bland, so-so way. It’s not cheap either — 5 dishes was $ 50. That was won ton soup(bland and mushy won tons), orange chicken(greasy and weird non-orange sweet salty soy based sauce), long beans with dry dried beef(good but no long beans — string beans) pot stickers(tough and gooey), chow mien(good) Won’t return.

We always order for pick up. The restaurant itself doesn’t offer much ambiance for me. It’s a little outdated, and just slightly sad. The food however is inexpensive and good! The hot and sour food is my favorite when I am feeling sick. It’s spicy and really clears any congestion I may have. Our other go to’s are the spring rolls which are fried and yummy, the orange chicken and fried rice or brown rice. They also offer the lunch specials on the weekends. Portions are fairly large so my husband and I usually split a lunch special with a small order of hot and sour soup.

When we touch down in the Bay Area this is a must stop for us on Friday night to pick up some Chinese take out to enjoy in our hotel room. The parking here is next to impossible, if you do not mind walking I would suggest parking in residential area. The food is very good chicken with broccoli, fried rice, and chow mein. In my experience Zagat has been on point with their awards, and this place has a couple of them and I concur they are very good, call ahead because it takes awhile to get your food.

I don’t know what you one star givers have experienced but this place is a winner. I ordered the shrimp and vegetables with fried rice and Singapore noodles and both dishes are delicious. The perfect amount of ginger and garlic, the bok choy is not overcooked, the shrimp are clean and this gravy! The Singapore noodles are awesome! I don’t know what they did but I’m will definitely order them again! Wait and this tea. Floral hints not bitter and no need for sugar; it is just right. Why only 4 stars? This damn fly is irking my nerves! Lol

I am giving this restaurant one star because it doesn’t deserve a collective 3.5 stars. I use Unilocal a lot to find new restaurants and I would not eat at a restaurant that has less than 3.5 stars. In my experience, 3.5 stars represents a decently reliable meal. As far as I can remember, Little Shin Shin was the worst Chinese food that I have had. I live in the neighborhood and was excited to try an alternate to Holly’s down the street because Little Shin Shin’s menu had a lot of our favorite dishes. We ordered the shrimp egg foo young and General Tsao’s chicken. It was accompanied by sweet and sour soup. The soup was too gelatinous and bland to eat. The egg foo young was a hard brick and we aren’t sure what was in it that made it so dense and hard. The General Tsao’s chicken was not crispy and the sauce also had an unappetizing texture and unpleasant flavor. Even the orange slices that came with the check were flavorless and dry. My husband and I choked down a small portion of the meal and donated our doggie bag to a homeless person. We had no complaints about the service, but the food will keep us from ever going back.

This place isn’t the best Chinese food place. If you want authenticity, I suggest Oakland Chinatown. The service is mediocre, food is okay. Parking isn’t that great. Although this place won plenty of awards, I argue it is decent. I strongly believe there are better Chinese places like in Chinatown or even Ranch 99 mall in Richmond.

3.5 stars. I am rounding up because Oakland has shitty chinese food in general, and, therefore, there isn’t really anything to outshine it. This place is pretty solid. It’s your standard Chinese fare, like«hi, i’m chinese food» type of place. It’s not going to be winning any awards for authenticity any time soon, but, generally speaking, their dishes are tasty and are what you expect from an Americanized Chinese restaurant. Highlights would include Mongolian Beef and Szechuan Chicken Low points would be General’s Chicken(not terrible but I like it when they are smaller pieces of chicken and crispier) and the Kung Pao Chicken is sub par(has an odd, off-putting flavor to it. Everything else I have had here is satisfactory to good. Their proteins are generally cooked well and their sauces are usually tasty without being too salty. I like this place WAY better than Shan Dong… a place that I simply do not understand the allure of.

First time here. I did not know this place was on Bay Area Check Please until I got here. I was craving for lollipop chicken and the only place I know makes them is Sky Dragon in Daly City. I did not want to drive all the way over there. I decided to Unilocal and see if there’s any in the East Bay. Luckily, this place showed on Unilocal. Parking was a kind of a pain. Circled twice and got a parking space 3 blocks away. I got an order of Lollipop Chicken with hot garlic sauce on the side and a lunch rice plate of Mongolian Beef to go. It was around $ 18. Standard prices as other chinese restaurants. I waited for about 15 minutes. The staff was very nice & friendly. The lollipop chicken was delicious. Similar to Sky Dragon but crispier. Love it. The mongolian beef was good. I would definitely be back to try other items and the Lollipop Chicken! Yum!
