I’ve been coming here for years when it was a mother/daughter duo team but now it’s run by the daughter Christine who is super nice and knows what she’s doing. As Anne had mentioned, the majority of the clientele are men so hubby comes here too but she does a great job for women of all ages too so my mom also goes here for her perms. One thing I like about Christine is unlike so many other places I have been to in the past including the one I went to when Nghe was closed for Christine’s maternity leave is she doesn’t spend the whole time trying to upsell you on coloring or highlighting your hair or agreeing to the«better»(read more expensive) perm solutions. I understand higher bill = bigger tips but you got to love them telling you your hair is too dry and needs some sort of treatment when your hair is on the oilier side. Prices are very affordable so I usually tip her 20−25% since she doesn’t spend the whole time upselling which I appreciate. Since she pretty much runs the shop herself, call before going just in case she has an appointment or emergency forcing her to close shop for the day. She is training someone now but if you want Christine, call before leaving just to make sure.

Been getting my cut here for the last 6 years and am always satisfied with the cut. Nothing much to say except decent place with fair prices.

So I just learned recently that my whole family — and here I am referring to the whole village/clan/whatever group term you want to use — has been going to this place since it opened and after visiting today, I can easily see why. Though this place has undergone a few management changes since my family has been going there, the service is still the same. Now, it is run by a mother-daughter duo and they don’t play. The service is especially quick if you’re a guy looking for a trim. You’re in the chair, zzz-zzz, bam, you’re out and for only $ 9 at that! Most of the male hair cuts i’ve seen come out of here turned out looking great, especially if you prefer a more conservative«traditional» cut. This is probably because most of the cuts that I’ve seen come out of here are those on older gents(i.e., dad, uncles, etc.) so it would be a great place to refer your«elders.» But, if you have a guy friend who is about to go in for a job interview, is going to a wedding, or whatever, they would probably like it here too! As for the ladies, unfortunately, it may take a bit longer(as expected depending on the cut you want and how much hair you have right?). But let me tell you, I’ve never seen anyone do a classic bob so fast before. My mom had at least 8″ worth of hair taken off and she was outta that chair in 20 minutes.(Of course, the cut looked good!) As for me, I asked for a trim on my pre-existing bob, which I had done about 2 months ago. Before coming to Nghe Cung, I’d asked for an asymmetrical bob from 2 different stylists from 2 different salons in ritzy LA, but no one was able to deliver the look that I wanted. When I came to Nghe Cung, however, I knew I was in the right place when she whipped out the razor. And of course, I walked away a happy customer. I haven’t seen the kind of texture that I’ve been wanting in my bob until I came here. With all the pluses(e.g., great price, parking, speed, etc.) comes what some may see as «minuses.» Let me make it clear that that I don’t think the points that I’m about to bring up here as bad. I only raise them so that people know what to expect when coming here because it’s not your typical shi-shi salon. First, you have to ask to get shampoo’d before the cut and styled after the cut. Second, Nghe Cung doesn’t take appointments(well, she does, but it’s usually a 1-person shop so she prefers walk-in’s and if you don’t like waiting, then it’s no lost to her). Third, if you haven’t guessed it, Nghe Cung can be a bit gruff — she tells it like it is and if you disagree, that’s cool, but don’t be surprised if you hear«I told you so» later. Again, let me just reiterate that I personally think she’s awesome. She knows what she’s doing. She knows what looks good on people and in a way, she’s HILARIOUS! For the cost and the amount of time you spend in the chair, there’s no one better than her. You’re in, you’re out, both of you get on with your lives. So, if you’re looking for a great cut at a fair price without all the fancy«salon experience,» this is the place for you. If not, you may want to stick with where you’ve been going. Here’s some additional info that may be helpful when deciding when/if you want to drop in: — Hours: 10am to 6pm 7 days a week — Men’s cuts: $ 9 and up — Women’s cuts: $ 12 and up — Perms: $ 40 and up
