Oakland Karate & Kickboxing

I’ve known GJ Morrison for over 14 years and I love this place! Both of my kids are students of the school. My oldest was there for 10 years and my youngest is going on 7+ years. If you are looking for a martial arts school for your child then this is the right place. They have the right balance of discipline and fun.
It’s also a great place for adults to train whether it’s Kempo, Muay Thai or personal training. I’ve been doing Kempo for over two years and added in Muay Thai this past year. Prior martial arts experience isn’t required — just a willingness to put in the time and effort. I’ve also had grueling personal training sessions with GJ which was a mixture of cardio, weight training and kick-​boxing.
The only negative thing I can say is that the school is on the wrong side of the Caldecott.
It’s a testament to GJ that I’ve driven through the tunnel for the past 10 years just to go to his school. They really know what they’re doing at Oakland Karate and Kickboxing!

I have to be honest, I was disappointed in this place. Used the groupon and attended the Mon-​Fri 6:00 evening cardio kickboxing and bootcamp classes. I think this place is a better fit for people who have martial arts experience and are looking to perfect their skills one-​on-​one. The group classes I attended reminded me of middle school gym class when the teacher would just bark orders without demonstrating or teaching proper technique. I could have done all of this at home by myself. The male instructor just walked around with a whistle yelling, «jump rope! Burpees! Sit ups! Push ups!» The female instructor was a little better. Even the music was repetitive — I heard the same song three times in one 1-​hour class. Not a great work out class and do not expect to learn any martial arts or kickboxing with the groupon.

My first time here, def won’t be my last. Is truly great experience training with Mr. Morrison! Intense but lots of fun!

I originally sought out a new gym for Muay Thai over 3 years ago and couldn’t be happier. Over the last few years I started training Kempo and Jiu Jitsu as well. At times I’ll randomly find myself taking a cardio class or two, always feeling welcome to jump in.
All the classes continue to push me both mentally and physically. I love it so much that when I switched jobs and started commuting 1.5 hours away I made sure my work place knew I had to be back in Oakland in time to train each night.
There’s a range of options for every skill level and interest– whether private or group classes. I cannot imagine not being a part of this gym! I’ve been at other gyms and not only is there a community, but strong sense of family and friendship.

I’ve been training at Oakland karate and kickboxing for about 12 yrs and I can say that it has truly changed my life. I’ve lost 65 lbs and had kept it off because of the training programs that they offer. The staff and members are the motivating factors that keeps me going.
The facility on 65^th at is amazing and the best in Northern California. I drive all the way from Daly City to Oakland to train because of it.
I’ve had other schools invite me to train with them but I’ve never felt the need to go anywhere else but Oakland karate and kickboxing. Mr Morrison and the rest of the staff knowledge in martial arts is all that I will ever need.

I’ve been training at Oakland Karate and Kickboxing for about 12 years. I originally started to get in better shape and that turned into fighting in amateur Muay Thai fights 2 Mma fights and currently jiu jitsu tournaments.
I love this place it is like a second home to me. What ever level you want to get to G. j can make it happen. I’ve been training here for years and he still knows how to get the best out of me. I wouldn’t train anywhere else.
