Loved the sabich, first time ever having one and it was amazing. The pita was meticulously packed with hummus, mushrooms, potatoes, spices, herbs, cabbage, and more I couldn’t name. I enjoyed my sabich at soma st food park, «vegan day.» I’m NOT vegan but gave this a try and was so surprised and delighted.

Time: 5:37pm/70°F partly sunny Purpose: Walking around First Friday event in Oakland. This vendor was the first that got my attention as new pop up. Set-up: Canopy, electric range burner, pots, trays, business cards, table cloth, folding table, wooden crates, hand written menu(barely reading), paper spoons, recycled paper bowls, cash box, upright beverage dispenser, ice chest, metal pans, tip jar. Staff: Three guys all wearing printed P & L company tees. Warm and friendly showing enthusiasm for being there. I ask what are the offerings for seven dollars? He try to explain, but got a rush of people. I went ahead and order a bowl just to see what comes of. Quite efficient as my order was done less than 20 seconds. Cleanliness: Grade A, clean enough for vendor standards. All equipments/supplies kept away from public. Electric range could present a problem. Pot handles and burner part exposed within a arms reach. Not ideal for kids nearby without adult supervision. Eats/Drinks: Mushroom Hummus Delight bowl with whole pita pocket $ 7. I must say, hummus is very well made here. Smooth, creamy and velvety without embedded pieces. Better than the best store bought version, IMO. Mushroom and onions had a tad of oil creating a small pond, didn’t like that part. It was although a scoop of oil was mandated. Turmeric added a good balance flavor not overpowering. Garbanzo beans were great. Cooked perfectly not hard or soft its like al dente of beans. Tahini spread was good also good, intense sesame flavor not lacking at all. Pita bread were kinda old tasting as, it was flat and breaks when folded. A sure sign of store bought stacked in sleeve bag version. They even have two toasters on sight just to warm the pita up. This stand has the lowest customer walk up than others and now I know why? Price wise and portion sizes is the main culprit here. Main Features: Home made soft hummus. Products/Services: Mushroom Hummus Delight bowl and lemonade w/mint leafs. Vegan, vegetarian, sustainable, locally sourced ingredients. Punch Lines: Modest cost, better than average, pleasing flavors, can’t go wrong, nothing out of the ordinary, kept its standards, satisfactory, itty-bitty. Tradeoffs: Appetizer size with prices of main entrée at some places. Final Thoughts: So, this was their first appearance being a street vendor. First sign of trouble was no scrub cups filled with samples and card stock makeshift spoons use. Things didn’t go as plan here as, I had to put in a few ideas of what they’ve on hand. I suggested a picture or actual items up for sale and advertising signs outlined darker, not just a sharpie. No thanks or I appreciate it, nothing. Well, that’s just a little of what lies ahead. I can’t let all info out of bag and not get paid for it. In my line of work, I see things first hand before the proprietor would even know. Not to say they don’t Hopefully, next visit things will pan out for them.
