New management! I enjoyed the phở we had at this visit much tastier than my previous visit under the previous management. The interior has been re-done too! Much brighter now.

Ordered a shrimp dish. Cost $ 10 and I got 6 small shrimp. And way too salty. Aswell inside the restaurant it is really cold, so dont forget a sweater.

I’ve got 4 dinners worth of comments but it all boils down to this: Yummi-li-cious! The spring rolls are fresh with plenty of great sauce, I love the chicken salad, and the phở is great. Prices are good and folks are nice. 1 star off for weird location, street parking and an interior that should have been redone 20 years ago. .. but if you want to find a new favorite hole-in-the-wall, this is it!

Ate here since it opened aha I love the phở because I don’t need to add anything in it, I love how the phở is so tasteful! The place needs a redo but if enough people come it maybe can(:

What the PHO! Why has no one ever told me about this hidden GEM. I was a little hesitant to drive through the hood to get to but it was worth it. Spring rolls on point. The phở broth is AMAZING. So many different condiments to choose from. The BBQ pork over rice was delicious. I will be back for my next hang over phở fix ;)

I absolutely LOVE their bun bo hue. Very flavorful and filling. I tried a few other places but none were this good. I haven’t really tried the other stuff on the menu, but their rice with bbq meat dishes are pretty good too. Their service definitely needs improvement but that’s how it is with these small Asian restaurants. I only go there for their bun bo hue really.

Surprisingly hard to find phở hours that are open late so my partner and I ended up here, coming from another part of East Oakland and not wanting to travel too far. I was satisfied with the phở and the service was friendly!

I come here pretty often. Prices are reasonable and a pretty good variety of food other than Phở. I havne’t tried anything else other than the phở yet, but definitely will soon. Rating this place strictly for the food. Service is friendly. The resturant itself is ok. Seems like a place for a lot of older generation vietnamese like to hangout and drink which adds to the atmosphere. One other time I came in however, it smelled somewhat like a bathroom which made it unappetizing, but I’d still give this a 4 star.

Received a late-night bowl combo beef phở. The broth was flavorful, and the bowl was good-sized for one’s appetite. The people there are super nice. The neighborhood is crackin’.

Two friends took me here because they deemed the establishment«authentic». I must say, I concur. The interior is modest, but sincere — like the food. And it stays filled with locals even on a Tuesday night. I ordered the #1 phở, a favorite of my friend: vermicelli rice noodles, tripe, flank steak, and tendons. It naturally came with a plate full of mint, bean sprouts, and jalapeño. A medium bowl is a nice, large portion! Large would be bigger still, for a serious hunger. Small would be a great way to have your noodles and a side as well. I only added a smidge of sriracha and a splash of fish sauce because I mostly wanted to see how the broth was by itself — light, yet full of flavor, truly reticent of the beef in the dish. This was my second time trying tripe to see if my fondness at a dim sum place was a fluke. It was my first time trying tendons, inspired by «Bizarre Foods»(tv show) and«Eat Your Kimchi»(bloggers) comments on the matter — I was left curious. Let me say, that the whole dish was DELICIOUS. Would order again. Tendons, despite being clear, were shockingly tender and did indeed have a light beef flavor; I’d once heard them compared to «beef jello» and I say the description fits well enough. The flank steak was sliced thin, offered a meaty respite from the exotics, and was FULL of flavor. For me, the whole thing was nicely topped off with the Jasmine tea ordered. And all of it is reasonably priced, cheap even for the quality. I look forward to exploring deeper into the authentic Vietnamese dishes offered here! Pic here:

I love a hot bowl of soup on cold rainy days. After paying for metered parking out front I entered this hole in the wall. I was planning on Phở but noticed they serve Bun Bo Hue. I ordered a medium sized serving with no pork blood. When my soup arrived it was scorching hot and the side of cabbage, mints, jalapenos and sprouts were fresh. The combination of noodles, meats, mints and veggies made by taste buds sing. It’s just amazing how this simple soup was so satisfying!

I’ve been getting my phở from san francisco(tenderloin area) since forever and the TL has the best of the best. Now I am in Oakland and didn’t know where to go for some good Phở so I went onto my mobile Unilocal app and searched around… I saw this spot with a high number of reviews and it was close to my place to why not… I went around 4p so it was empty but the girl inside was nice and attentive. I got a large chicken phở togo, took it home, and when I took my first slurp I was soo happy! The broth had flavor, the chicken was good, and the veggies were fresh… it seriously hit the spot. Minus a star because I didn’t care for the huge strands of chicken skin. All in all, I would def go back

Shrimps in Sugar Cane Juice. These were pretty good, I thought they’d be fresh shrimp though, but they’re more like shrimp cakes or fishcakes but shrimp. They were pretty good though, slight tinge of sweetness, but overall I didn’t taste much sugar cane. Combo Beef Phở. Steak, Tendon, Brisket, Tripe. The Works! This was pretty good. I like how you can order your steak rare, on the side. I just wish their jalapenos were spicier because I couldn’t taste even a little bit of spiciness. Their soup was alright though, there wasn’t that much MSG so I actually drank the soup. NOMS.

Since my previous review I have been to this restaurant quite a few times now. Thankfully the sanitation issues are no longer there. Their Phở has excellent days and just meh days. They seem to have a problem with consistency because every other time I go there the Phở is phenomenal, and the next time it is just alright.

I just picked up and semi-finished my to-go order from this spot, and I am not satisfied :(They got my order wrong, giving me noodles instead of steamed rice, and even though I was starving when I started, I was really let down. The service sucks, and they didn’t make my drink until AFTER I already had my order. Seriously disappointed. Two stars to the avocado shake, and that is about it.

Not a Phở review. They sell tiet canh(duck blood). Great for eating while drinking, super bowl parties and grossing your non-Viet friends out. I believe they sell it for $ 16 a plate. Tit canh is a traditional dish of blood in Vietnamese cuisine. Tit canh is made from raw blood, usually duck, put in a shallow dish along with finely chopped cooked duck innards(such as gizzards), sprinkled with crushed peanuts and chopped herbs such as Vietnamese coriander, mint, etc.

Among other things, International Blvd(formerly known as East 14th Street) has a lot of great Vietnamese restaurants to choose from. One of my favorite Vietnamese dish is bun bo hue and I have been on a mission to find the best bun bo hue on International. Here’s what I have so far, starting from the best: 1) Phở Thanh Hung 2) Phở Au Sen 3) Phở King

I thought Phở Hoa Hung had one of the better beef phở’s in Oaktown so I was surprised when I came by for lunch only to find it’s now Phở Thanh Hung I. I haven’t been here in awhile, but doesn’t look like they did any redecorating with the change except for the signage out front and maybe a larger flat screen above the front window. Anyway, not the level of Hoa Hung, but not bad either. Seemed quite similar to Hoa Hung with the meat served on the side in a shredded fashion not sliced cleanly. The broth was beefy like I remembered and I’m pretty sure still had some MSG. Not too much complexity in the broth flavor either. Why the rating is 3 instead of 4 stars. .. not as generous with the different cuts meat except the tendon which there was a lot of. The noodles were a bit clumped together and past al dente as well.

Not near any of the other Phở places. Right next to best taco truck in Oakland making it very hard to walk in. Street parking easy. Promptly seated. Tea. Food out within 5 min Bun Rieu med $ 6.25 Pork Rice plate $ 6.25 However…it was some pretty ehhhh food. Phở Ga 69#1 has better Bun Rieu. And many other places have better Rice Plates. If I’m back in this area it’ll be for gas, or fried pork burrito across the street.
