Pick-n-Pull

First I have to say this location deserves No Stars. With that being said, this location is a bad buisness representation of a automobile establishment to conduct ANY recreational transactions. They deprive your vehicle giving you little to nothing as reimbursement. The customer service showed me upmost disrespect when trying to just get my check and leave. The so called receptionist is too busy chit chatting outside to her coworkers instead of tending to customers as I waited patiently at her desk. 15min later of waiting someone else shows up to «play» receptionist but immediately comes in with an attitude ready for an dispute to eventually argue loudly and ignorantly. A tall gentleman mostly an pick up driver comes in to pretend to be an peacemaker, insults me by refusing to assist me and taunts me by laughing at his own amusement then helps the person behind me. I mind you, no one was in the front office for 15min before the 2^nd receptionist wild antics. «Jose» one of the pick up driver calls me stupid repeatedly and laughs. The ONLY help I’ve received is from the manager. Who of course does because he doesn’t want unwanted attention but he was koo enough before perjury. I recorded this event. Insults and poorly customer service is what I endeared here, just to pick up a check. Most of the employees need to be replaced with professional working citizens who care for the customer and job. Instead of play time at work. I’m fed up to the point that the world will know not to do business here EVER.

I went in on a Saturday and scheduled a pick up for my car on Monday afternoon. The title exchange went smoothly on site, however, the driver never showed up on Monday. I tried calling Pick-N-Pull’s phone extensions– all of them– and none of the lines were picked up.
Turns out (after speaking with Cash for Cars) that the woman at the Pick-​N-​Pull front desk scheduled me a non-​existent pick up time. She didn’t realize that she had missed the cut off date & time for scheduling a car pick up and my appointment never registered. There was nothing Cash for Cars could do but reschedule the pick up. They couldn’t even transfer me to the manager to file a complaint.
This place is extremely disorganized and unprofessional.

My Dad has come here many times to find part for various cars we have owned over the years at good prices. But this rating is about the 4 ½ hours of waiting it took to get rid of our old clunker. If I had know it was going to take that long I would have come MUCH later to pick him up.
First paperwork was a problem, they entered some of the info wrong and started all over, my mothers death certificate was questioned highly (yes an original not a copy as they requested), since her name was also on the paper work and never taken off, and when I finally told my Dad to just have them mail the check to us because at this point I was beyond done waiting with a cantankerous child at my side for over 4 hours, the check was finally ready when he decided to speak up, but they wanted to see some form of I.D. for my mother! (She has been gone over 12 years!) I just walked out and hope to not have to come back here for a very long time.
I felt like even if we weren’t going to do the Government/​State (?) get your old car off the road program, it would have still taken us an extremely long amount of time waiting. If they had offered much earlier to mail us our check I would have had a much better day.

This Pick n Pull is very small. Not a lot of imports. Lots of box Chevys. The ones in Richmond and Newark are much bigger and obviously have a lot more cars.

This pick n pull has always been poorly run, but recently they started ripping people off and that isn’t cool at all. They have a white tax there. If you are white expect things to get expensive. My friend paid 90 for a pair of tail lights, they tried to charge me 45 for two plastic fender liners worth 15 each brand new. Weak, especially when ese before me paid damn near the same amount for leather seats front and back. I threw the parts down at the gate having come to terms with the fact I’m never coming back. Put my tool box in my car, thought about how bad i needed the parts, and walked back in. Asked dude at the gate how much the parts are if i can speak spanish. The guy up front that told me 45, now says 55. Seriously?
If you can afford it stay away from this place. They are extortionate towards people just trying to fix their daily drivers, and offered me 100 for my 75 plymouth, two tons of ‘merican steel. They are racist, and they pocket as much of the government grant money they can. Seriously wish i knew a number to call to report this place to the better business bureau.

Worst customer service I have ever seen! Waited 3 hours to be told they wouldn’t buy our car. Trained seals could do a better job

They offered me $ 58 for my early 2’000s car! I called them because I was interested in selling them my car and I was surprised to hear the offer. Just the body parts would bring a few hundred bucks. Not to mention the complete and running engine and transmission. What kind of profit margins do they expect to make? They can stick their you know what up someone’s else’s. No thank you!

Man this place sucks no fucking help and way over priced for used shit that may not work when you get it home anyway

I created a Unilocal account just so I can give this Pick-​n-​Pull a one star and it would be zero if there was an option. The people that work here are rude, arrogant and disrespectful especially the girl at the front entrance. People like that should not be able to run a business. They overcharge forr used parts that may or may not work. $ 17 for a door handle. I can a get new one for $ 6. Give me a break. Just a bunch of greedy disrespectful people. Avoid if you can.

I went here to retire my vehicle when it couldn’t pass smog. I expected it to be a nightmare based on some of the reviews here, but my experience wasn’t terrible, and the customer service people were surprisingly nice. The environment is pretty rough, if you’re not used to being in a used car parts junk lot…
The first thing you should be prepared for is that the process for retiring a vehicle here takes time — about an hour in my case.
I arrived at about 9. There were one or two people ahead of me. You have to sign in at the office, which is to the left of the main gate. Then I sat for about 20 minutes in the waiting area — which is essentially a cage they’ve built around a part of the lot adjacent to the building, where they’ve put some metal folding chairs on the concrete. There’s a candy & soda machine. It was cold on this Jan. day & the waiting area gets no direct sun, so wear a coat. (There are a lot of interesting characters wandering around in the lot to keep you amused during your wait in The Cage. People looking for spare parts, tires, batteries, etc. The place is full of all kinds of car odds & ends.) After 20 or so minutes my name was called and I went in to fill out some paperwork. After they inspected my car, I waited another 20 or so minutes in The Cage while they waited for my paperwork to be approved in the system. Out at about 10, and its a short walk to Bart if you don’t have a ride.
It wasn’t too bad — just be ready to put in your time in The Cage!

I came to this SHIT HOLE in oakland ca, to buy a set of tail lights, and they sold it to me for 30% more than other pick and pulls… This people is rude disrespectful and don’t know what the fuck they’re doing there, they don’t even know why they sell parts for high prices than other pick and pulls, the «supervisor» came to talk to me about the lights, BY THE WAY, you look like a fucking homeless POS, and he said you, are buying a large lights thats why is more expensive and they are NEW??? The lights are USED DUMBASS, not new, learn your SHIT. YOU GUYS DO NOT SELL NEW PARTS!!! GET THAT!!! however ill never go back to this shit hole. THIS «employees» know NOTHING… MUGROSOS…

Got here at 8:30…currently 9:25 with one person ahead of me. I actually got here at 8am, but these lazy, good-​for-​nothing workers obviously don’t know how to get to their own business on time (they didn’t get here until 8:20am). If you are waiting to «sell» your car, expect to wait 30mins to an hour (or longer… wtf). I barely opened the door to ask where the restroom was, and some pudgy girl at the front desk told me she didn’t call my name yet. I know it’s early in the morning, but don’t be so quick to snap at your clients.
Anyway, the girl in the glasses was attentive and helped us get out of there in a timely manner.
Not sure if I would ever come back, but I definitely would not recommend this place if you’re cutting it close on time…

I signed up for CA Buy Back program twice. They can’t schedule a pickup. Instead, you need to call or go to PnP to schedule the pickup. I called but no one answers. Their waiting area are car seats pulled out of the yard and people were sleeping; they had been their so long. When I got their, the person behind the counter had me sign in. After 20 minutes I scratched my name from the list and called a donation nonprofit. Five minute phone call and my car was towed away. It’s really that simple. Too bad for the PnP employees, very poor management.

DON’T EVEN WASTE YOUR TIME!!! WOULD GIVE IT NEGATIVE STARS IF I COULD! At least not to buy a used car, but i think all around, this place is a RIP OFF. My husband and i were looking for a small car for a good price to drive while we rebuilt our transmission in our 94 Honda civic. (we love our Honda, we will do whatever work needed to keep if FOREVER) a lot of people told us to try pick n pull, we might find a gem in a dirt pile. anyways we spent a few days looking online at Newark, San Jose (both locations) and Oakland. we got offered a ride to look at Oakland to LOOK and thought OK, why not? We got there and see this 99 Volkswagon Passat! it was beautiful! No body damage, like literally none. Which is SUPER rare! We checked the oil, it was a little low, but when we turned on the engine and ran it for a few minutes and revved it, it sounded great. Under the hood was super clean, hoses and belts looked brand freaking new.(probably steam cleaned. super bad for engine.) The leather interior had a little wear but not much! There was a sticker on the driver side passenger window with information about the car: It had a rating of like 9 out of 10, and said it was a great commuter and runs really good! We were lead to believe that the car needed minimal work, as when we stressed to the guy in charge we needed something more dependable to get to and from work and school while we repair our main car. He assured us it was a great car, no problems and in great running condition. They wanted 1,999 but we talked them down, the tires were really worn and the drivers side window was completely shattered, glove-​box handle was missing/​broken, they didn’t budge too much the salesman said «This is a great car, we don’t get many like this in here» After taxes and stuff it was less But still not even close to worth what we paid. We drove towards home (we live in Hayward) but as soon as we hit the highway (and a certain MPH) the oil light and check engine come on! WTF! So we go see a mechanic immediately. (we were going to anyways to smog, brake&light test, but the next day early, then DMV) The mechanic runs codes (for free than goodness) and tells us there is low oil pressure, gas leak and a bunch of other bad codes! He said its a ticking time bomb and will cost us a fortune to fix! Pretty much everything that could be wrong with it, was. Great, just what we needed, we already have one car were working on fixing! None of this was disclosed before hand! If we would have known the problems (or could see the lights! we wouldn’t have even wasted our time or money!) We tried to go back and tell them about all these problems that weren’t disclosed before hand, and we told them we felt they ripped us off. They said it was sold «AS IS» and there was nothing they can do. They Then offered free parts for 30 days! First of all, Why offer free parts if your in the right? Second off what is the car rated on? Not how it runs, Obviously. It must have been based on appearance because there is no body damage. The sales men here will tell you ANYTHING to get you to buy and you cant test drive there so you really have to know what to look for, maybe even have a code reader handy. Still not even worth it. We will not be taking them up on free parts, we will not ever go to another pick n pull for anything, EVER. And they will be hearing from our lawyer very soon. This place is just a freaking rip off.

This place is what it is. I came here once to try to find a spare tire that would fit my car, but apparently I had weird sizes, and after about an hour, we gave up trying to find one. However, my mechanic seems to be better at that sort of thing than I am, and he found one later on because he’s nice like that (see review for Alameda Imports).
The second time I came here was to sell my car through the Bay Area Air Quality Management District’s (Air District) Vehicle Buy Back Program. We had to wait quite a while — about an hour, I think, which was annoying, but in the end the actual selling of the car was easy enough. We filled out a form, my husband drove it in, I tried not to get emotional, and the lady cut me a check for $ 1,000. Just make sure you have fulfilled all the requirements of the program (because I’m helpful:
) before you show up there.
I think it could also be an interesting place to take pictures, if you’re into that sort of thing. Maybe some good black and whites.

Through the Bay Area Air Quality Management District people in CA can opt for the Vehicle Buy Back Program which aims at taking old, polluting cars off the road. But there are only two companies partnering with this program: Pick n’ Pull or Environment Engineering Service. I assume there is good grant money involved here.
Be warned. This is no simple «drop your car off, we’ll give you a check» scenario. There is a lot of paperwork and bureaucracy involved between them and the Bureau of Automotive Repair. The problem with the Pick n Pull, however, is that there is nowhere for people to wait. It’s a literal CAGE next to a junk yard and seating consists of three disgusting car benches.
Average wait time seemed to be about 4 hours. Mine was about 3 because I had faxed in my paperwork ahead of time and had it approved by BAR.
These are For-​Profit companies benefitting from our government programs that are intended to improve the environment. not their pocketbooks. They clearly want to keep every cent of grant money for themselves, and pass none of it off to the citizens so that we may wait in comfort, or have their vehicles processed in a timely manner.
There are obvious solutions to the staggeringly slow bureaucratic process they use now. Solutions for expediency are not being employed because of greed and apathy.

They nickel and dime you on every little part ie, I picked up a front knuckle assembly. They charged $ 30.99ea + $ 2.99ea core, rotor $ 11.99ea + $ 2.99ea core, caliper 19.99ea +$ 2.99ea core, caliper bracket $ 10.99ea +$ 1.99ea core, brake pad $ 1.99 each (for a set of used worn pads for $ 8) which I was going to throw away. Not cool! Took off the rotors and pads off at the car and brought parts back for a credit slip for $ 40. What a rip off! It’s gotten a lot more expensive through the years.

Wow, where do I begin? First with a rating that is well below a one star establishment. Run, far, far away from this place! I don’t normally rate this low but it’s warranted this time.
I came down to the vehicle purchasing office to turn in an old car. You write your name on a sign up sheet. We waited over 3 hours only to find out there is a problem with the paperwork. I’m pretty sure there’s a better way to do it. The place was so packed and people just didn’t want to be there. I couldn’t believe how inefficient this entire process was and we ended up leaving with no money in hand. You shouldn’t wander off too far or else you will lose your spot. They will cross your name off the list if you’re not around when you’re called.
The people that work here are absolutely miserable, lack any kind of customer service, and will bark orders at people. The manager has absolutely no power, doesn’t solve any problems and stands around with a blank look on his face. In those 3 hours, we witnessed a fight inside the yard over stolen tools. The manager came out to see what happened and went back in doing nothing. Maybe he should try to break up the fight or call the police?
Raul was taking phone calls and was instructed by his co-​worker not to answer any more questions over the phone because people should do their own research before coming in. I think I have seen and heard it all.
I wouldn’t patronize a place that has an attitude problem. They lost my business for good. Go support a local mom and pop shop instead. At least you’ll be helping out against this evil empire.

Crappy place. the workers are rude and wanting to take all your money… sad thing is they don’t even speak proper English or good costumer service skills. If you take a part out they are going to charge you for it as if its brand new… Oh and be prepare for a lot of bullshit when it comes to pricing. basically its a crappy location with crappy people. Oh and another thing they NEVER return your money they just give you store credit. I suggest if you are in need of a transmission or engine or something then it may be worth going but other than that I would go somewhere else… These picknpulls are money hungry and maybe its because almost everyone takes things in their pocket but come one!!! they price it as if its NEW when its just JUNK! hahah anyways this place sucks. i wouldnt go
OH and if you do get something tell them its from a shitty car brand. some tend to charge more when you tell them its from a toyota honda or acura. and just bullshit to them as much as you can cause they deserve it haha
