A beautiful ship. Initially I was not going to write a review because my introduction of the ship was through a Unilocal event. But my time on board was not spent chatting away with my friends(I can see them anytime). Instead, I hung around the captain and crew and bombarded them with questions– which I had a lot. Sampling? «What’s that number mean?» «What kind of wood???» «How many crew on the original ship?» «Where do you sail to? «Yah?, How long does that take?» You get the point. I heard a few of their stories– Ask about the Boy Scout group sailing from Catalina; good times. The floating history, the crew’s passion, the beauty of the bay, and firing the gun on deck. No other option then 5 stars. Maybe someday I’ll take the 2 week voyage to Hawai’i.

The ship is great. It docks off of Jack London Square, and have to say it was great. The cruise was a couple of hours around the bay. It’s a beautiful boat, with actual sails. A great change from the usual cruise. Also got to learn some history. And the firing of a cannon. The ship itself is gorgeous. We actually got to see how the sails come down, and how sailing really works, tons of fun. Also got to learn some cool sailing terms. Highly recommend it.

The passion of the wooden big ship with rigging and lines delicate; the swabbed decks so precious as its history and to watch the pelican fly elegant. The crew so might and fearless must they with spirit of the canvas in full sail; for direction and heading we do know a thousand leagues into a horizon we find a whale. So remember that you can only do this for a lifetime is so very short; make adventure into your sea legs as this beautiful ship, Lynx pulls into Oakland’s port. This reminded me so much of being a kid again. I actually went on a field trip in elementary school on a ship very similar to this one, of course me being in like the 3rd grade the ship seemed so much bigger back then, lol. This crew is so nice and they even show us how to help them put up and take down the sail. They give you a tour of the ship and they have a small gift shop. This is a must have event for the kids. I can’t wait to do this again.

Such a beautiful ship, the Privateer Lynx is! A replica of an 1812 privateer, the Lynx is definitely a must see! Built in Rockport, Maine in 2001, the ship has sailed from New Hampshire and now rests in Oakland’s Jack London Square. Crewed by some of the friendliest people, the Lynx and its crew are far beyond golden! It is such an amazing piece of history, and I’m sure there is even more to learn than I had in the couple of hours I was aboard. This floating museum is a great way to learn some 1812 history, and to sail into the sunset on the Bay. The Privateer Lynx is so much more than just a ship ride, but an interactive– and very fun– way to learn. We got to learn how to hoist the sails, tie our lines up and even move the boom from port to starboard. The best part, above anything else, is watching the cannon boom! If you’re looking for a little bit of treasure in the Bay Area, the Lynx is where it’ll be found.
