First off the were so close to having five stars. I really am upset that I have to give such a poor review. First, they were and hour late. They did call to tell me this but it threw the whole day off. When the movers showed they were very nice, polite and hard working, The main reason I hired a professional mover was for the large, heavy pieces, mainly the antique piano. Brian had assured me he had moved pianos many times and would have no problem moving this, when I saw two movers I knew this would be an issue. One of the guys called Brian and told him they would need help for the piano, it took literally hours for him to show and when he finally did arrive he explained that there was not enough room on the truck and he couldn’t do it that day. He then said «do you really want to move this?» Uh yeah we do… I was impressed that he was honest and told me he was afraid to move it or damage it. He «gave me his word» that he would get this moved «any day any time» I said «can you do it tomorrow?» he assured me he could, I planned on 11am. They didn’t show up and at first didn’t return my calls. When I finally got a call from them (two days later) they agreed to come move the piano and finish the move. He did come through in the end, but I think it would benefit Brian to take a few Business Management classes to get an idea of how to better estimate a job and be more organized. He was a nice guy, and his workers were awesome. Just really unorganized.

Brian and his crew just did a wonderful job moving me within Oakland today.
He and his crew showed up only 5 min late to an agreed 9am start time with a friendly and professional 3 man crew.
I mainly had packed boxes for a 2 bedroom place & not a lot of furniture so the move went quickly (5 hrs). Brian and his crew wrapped all wood furniture so nothing was damaged.
The price for the whole move was fair, very worth it! I would totally recommend theses guys.

Riteway movers helped us load our ABF truck for our cross country move to Boston. I chose Riteway based on their excellent reviews on Unilocal and Brian was very nice on the phone.
On the day of our move, Brian and his crew arrived late and then were in a huge rush. Brian scheduled two jobs on the same day and he grossly miscalculated how long each job would take. The three movers who did come were very nice and polite but they did an atrocious job of packing our things. Our truck arrived in Boston a few days ago and many of our items are broken or damaged. They secured our truck with bunjee cords instead of straps so there was lots of shifting in the truck. Unfortunately, they chose not to wrap at all our expensive wooden items and ALL of them have been damaged either by rubbing or by grease stains that we cannot remove from the wood. Two lamps are broken, a chair is broken, a book shelf is broken and every bed frame and bookcase has deep grease stains on it.
We were so puzzled unpacking the truck — for some reason, our couch pillows were wrapped carefully in moving blankets but our wooden standing lap was just thrown in the truck (and was broken). Our winter jackets (which easily could have been put in a suitcase) were carefully packed in a wardrobe box but our fancy dress clothes were scrunched in boxes. It was as if they had no common sense.
All of my husbands suits, dress shirts and dress pants were literally thrown into a box and arrived completely crumpled AND my husbands best suit and my WEDDING DRESS were in a heap on the bottom of a box with full bag full of the bathroom trash on top! Maybe my bad, but I didn’t realize that I would have to remove the trash from the house prior to the movers arriving because if I didn’t the movers might pack it (on top of my wedding dress, no less). I mean, it was pretty obviously trash.
Worst of all, I contacted Brian after we arrived here to tell him about the condition of our items and ask for compensation. He never responded.
I give Riteway one star because they did return one day after our move to repair the three stairs that they totally destroyed when dropping my desk down the stairs (!!). Although the repair job was not as high quality as we would have liked, they were efficient and kind about it.

I have to say, these guys certainly made moving day easier for me. Granted, I had already done a bit of it myself a couple days before my scheduled service, but that doesn’t mean the last minute crunch before the deadline is any less stressful.
From promptly returning my original message by phone, to settling the final bill and wrapping up their truck, all the guys were super polite and easy-​going, which really helps disarm anyone who might be on edge about their big day.
They have a website, but it isn’t very straightforward about their rates, which are quite reasonable; something you’d expect them to be proud of and display clearly, but then again, inviting potential customers to call and talk is actually beneficial for both parties. I have to admit there was a slight confusion the day of the move about their minimum (two hours), which was a bit different than what I understood from the quote when booking (only pay for as little or as much service as you actually need). Not a big deal either way in my case, but I’m a stickler for details like that. They also offer digital receipts in an effort to reduce paper; when you drive giant gas-​guzzling trucks, every little bit helps!
The guys managed to plough through my meagre studio-​sized move with little issue, and much care. Everything arrived in good order, minus the strap on one bag, but everything of real value was intact, a feat no other service has managed for me to date, including my own careful hands.
My reason for dropping one star was punctuality. As the first appointment of the day, I sat quietly in my apartment’s boxy echoes for over an hour past the scheduled time, which also slightly affected the latter part of my day. At least they apologised profusely.
Bottom line: Riteway is a five-​star service, certainly. Upbeat, genuine people that treat you like their top priority. Would definitely hire them again.

This is the 3^rd time I have hired this company for a move in Berkeley. As usual, the crew showed up on time, worked efficiently, handled our belongings with care and packed the truck securely. We were moving a 1 bedroom apt. but they would be great for any size job. Brian can also make arrangements for long distance if you need that. Thanks so much Brian, Chris, Shamar, and Carlos for a job well done! And their great attitude and price made it even better.

Last December we needed to do a local move (within Orinda, CA) and, based on reviews on Unilocal and the fair quote we received, decided to hire Riteway.
We are very glad we did that. Brian and his crew showed up on time and went above and beyond the call of duty in moving our belongings (as an example, they fixed the leg of a table that had been loose even before the move). They were also extra careful with the move and had a very good attitude when my wife asked them to move the couch «just a little more to the left», even though that was at the end of a back-​breaking day…
Their customer service (even after the move) was very good as well. Finally, they picked up our used boxes to recycle, which made us feel good as well.
If I need to move again (which, hopefully, won’t be for a long time…), I will certainly give Brian a call.

I agree with the other reviewers. Brian and Carlos were prompt, friendly, efficient, and careful with my furniture. I didn’t have to move very far, and I just had a few pieces of big furniture, but they did a great job and I would hire them again. Brian also gave me a bit of a discount because the move didn’t fill the entire 2-​hour minimum. Much appreciated!

I had a great moving experience with Brian and Carlos of Riteway Moving Company.
First of all, Brian is very responsible and reliable. Let me explain what happened. They were actually late for my appointment. Hold your horses! Please do not take it negatively, because it was not negative at all. A real emergency happened to Brian’s trusted buddy on my moving date, so Brian had to find someone else for my move before 9 o’clock in the morning. Brian did find somebody, Carlos, and called me on time to let me know that they were running little late. Brian explained to me what happened and promised me that my move would be all taken care of, so not to worry. Brian did not forget to give me a follow-​up call to let me know they were on their way before their arrival. So I was not worried at all whether they would show up or not.
As soon as they arrived, they started working right way. They were very careful with my belongings even though some of them are sort of junks.
While they were still working, I had to leave for my cable appointment at my new place. But I was confident enough to leave Brian and Carlos behind to take care of my stuff all alone. They assured that everything would be taken care of, and they did. They showed up at my new place with ALL my belongings. They unloaded everything, and set everything up for me.
Overall, I want to emphasize that Brian’s consistent follow up calls to ensure and ease my concerns were very remarkable. Those calls were very important for a situation like that. He has a great customer service skill, and he makes you sure you can trust him.
I was very happy with the outcome from this move. Don’t let me forget Jay, who set up my move with Brian. Jay was very responsive, and has great memories. Jay remembered me every time I called to confirm my appointment. He actually visited during my move and apologized for their being late that morning. It was very nice of him, and also nice to meet him in person. I highly recommend everyone to go to Riteway Moving Company, and hope everybody has the same great experience I had with them!

So I told Jay that we had a small, 4 person office, which is true. However, I forgot to mention that we also had a conference room and a ton of other stuff. It was a lot more than he anticipated, but he stayed cool (mentally, that day was really hot), calm, and definitely collected. He’s super organized, friendly, and generally awesome. The price was right and they completed the work in the time originally quoted. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs a mover.

First of all, Brian has assembled a good crew. Like the kind of guys it’d be nice to have beers with after moving. Alas, no time for them– they move on to the next job.
Second, they took great care of our belongings. They had a good system set up to remove items from the house and wrap them securely without wasting any time. Our move was only three blocks away, but they secured the truck as if they were moving us to Alaska. Good thing, too, because we’re on the hill.
Third, they’re willing to work anyone in. They had openings for us only a week out– which isn’t too typical for them. But Brian said he’d do his best to fit someone in last minute– even if it meant working til real late.
It’s a good crew. Very reasonable rates (plus 10% off for cash!). I’d use him again, but we’re hoping to stay put for a long while.

Jay and his crew (Landen and Joseph) are the best movers I have ever worked with and I’ve done a few in the last 6 years (2 within SF and 1 cross country). Jay is an expert on determining what truck you need and how many movers. I just sent him a few pictures and he suggested just the right service and I didn’t have to spend more on a bigger truck that wasn’t needed.
Jay and his team were also very methodical in moving everything. I have 4 glass display cabinets and they moved them much better than my husband or I could have.
Also the biggest thing… They moved us during a very heavy rain storm without any issues. They were safe, careful and went right to work!
Bottom line — If you want a very professional moving service that looks out for you, your budget and your belongings, go with Riteway Moving Company.

Jay was great to work with over the phone and email in order to set up the move. Brian and his crew were terrific the day of the move. Everyone was very professional and careful. They had to move two households into one, all in one day. They busted their asses and only took reasonable breaks. I would definitely use them again, no doubt.

Moving can be a very stressful and arduous time. I don’t have a lot of time in my day as is, so when I have a very respectful & understanding crew help me out I really appreciate it. It was easy to communicate with Jay anytime I needed help or had a question, and I always felt welcome to call. They really made my move a breeze!

2÷10÷2011 I work as a project manager and coordinate lots of moves for clients. Jay and Rite Way are my go-​to moving company. Their pricing is great, they always show up on time. Communication with Jay is easy and he always responds to my calls, texts and emails.
If they are already booked up, Jay will do all he can to accomodate me or he will honestly tell me he can’t do the job and then recommend another local moving company.
If someone calls me for a moving company I do not hesitate to give them Rite Way’s number.

Two thumbs way up! Words alone really can’t describe how happy I am with Riteway Moving Company! About a month ago, I had a family emergency that required me to pack-​up, put everything in storage and move to the East Coast. With only ONE day notice Brian, Jay and his crew came to my rescue, packed up my entire apartment while I was in a business meeting and then met me at my new storage facility. They knew exactly the size unit I would need and saved me $ 150/​month, since the unit I had reserved was 3x larger than I really needed. They packed the unit like true pros, I wish I had a picture. It was actually quite impressive! There’s no way I could have packed my storage unit that well, never! Riteway Moving Company saved me from what could have been a really stressful situation. They made it quick, efficient and affordable with a smile! When I move back, I will definitely hire these guys again.

Our usual movers were completely booked, as we had a «last minute» move this time, but they suggested I call Brian at Riteway.
Brian and his crew arrived at my house on time and wasted no time getting to work. They worked super fast, but were safe and handled all of our stuff with care and attention.
We completely filled up a very large 30′ moving truck (where does all this stuff come from?!) in under 2 hours. They even supplied us with wardrobe boxes for our hanging clothes.
Best part of the move, was that it came in under estimate. We tipped well, but still had plenty for a celebratory dinner at our fav restaurant.
So happy we decided to go with these guys. They made the move fast, easy and stress-​free.
