The location is uptown Oakland so parking can def be a challenge– i recommend biking or walking from BART if you can. It’s only a couple blocks from 19th St BART. I have been here 3 times now. The teacher for the Tuesday eve Samba class is awesome — i recommend her class for beginners. She is the real deal and committed to making sure you get it right.
What doesn’t work so great here is communication — They don’t have any way to tell you if a class is canceled ahead of time. I showed up once to find out the teacher had canceled class but it’s not posted anywhere. Other times I’ve been there class has almost been canceled due to not enough students showing up. Overall, the space is fine (a little dilapidated), location is good, and quality of instruction is great.

What a charming studio! My 5 stars primarily go out to Count for helping me out on almost no notice. I had booked a place in the city for private studio time to teach my fella the waltz for his birthday. They cancelled on me the morning of my booked date. I was in a scramble to find another place and probably called a dozen places only to be met with rude responses or no response at all. Count was friendly and kind and incredibly understanding of my situation. I couldn’t have blamed him if he had said no considering I needed the studio in less than 10 hours. Thank you Count for helping a fellow dancer out and saving a birthday!

Took a beginner hip hop class here tonight, taught by Andrew. I loved it. He teaches at a very fundamental level and in a very experimental way, making the learning process both constructive and fun. Being 6’4 and a stereotypical serious-​looking white guy raised in traditions of rigor and formality, I am not a naturally loose and fluid dancer, and thus it’s frustrating to go to studios that advertise «beginner», but are really «intermediate-​advanced», only to feel totally lost within minutes of a session. Many places I’ve gone «one and done» on; some classes I’ve even walked out of, having felt so frustrated and even on a few occasions, humiliated. Andrew and his girlfriend Miko made me feel comfortable, and I’ll be back – I’d highly recommend this to beginners who really want to grasp the basics of movement.

1924 is a great place to dance tango.
It has a nice floor, cool vibe, and several secluded rooms to change shoes/​socialize in.
HOWEVER! Many of my friends have gotten their windows smashed parking right outside, so I’d recommend taking the BART if you do decide to come. I don’t know how I’d feel leaving my car in that area. I think they might have a security guard car-​watching these days, but you can never be sure. If it wasn’t for this problem I’d probably rate it 5 stars!

We held a magical party here for my son’s graduation in June. It was a first for him and his classmates from a small school — a party that was not at school or at someone’s house — and Studio 1924 had all the right ingredients for an amazing night, from the small quiet rooms for teens who needed a little breather to big-​time mirrors for checking out the room to a perfect dance floor for every move they could throw.
Being able to connect everyone’s music player to the sound system was amazing, if a little crazy — everyone there wants to play their own, right? It was so, so fun.
A quiet room for parents who didn’t want to venture out for a meal elsewhere was a real boon, too. With food and drink set up carefully at the edge of the room to keep it off the dance floor, we were set for the night.
Lights down low, beautiful color cast to the space, great music capability and a distinctive mood for the night — this is the place.
Reserve it. And invite me?

I would give this studio 6 stars if I could.
I’ve taken salsa classes with Miguel for the past few months, and it’s been absolutely great. He teaches everything from basic rhythm to more advanced style, and helps us learn all the names of the fancy Reuda moves. He’s always super polite and patient when students get a step wrong, and adjusts each class to meet the skill levels of the dancers. Since taking his class, I’ve become way more confident on the dance floor when I go out dancing.
Not only are the classes amazing, but the owners, Melissa and Count, are as well. They are always so warm and welcoming when you walk through that door on the third floor and make you feel right at home in their studio, even for timid beginners, like me.

Did a private dance class here for my sister’s bachelorette party and had a BLAST! Our instructor Angel was hilarious & choreographed a cute & easy-​to-​learn routine for us. Even girls who were not thrilled with the idea of a dance class (it’s not everyone’s scene) had a really great time, and we were all laughing the entire time. Angel even edited the song we chose to make it work better for a quick choreographed dance — which was so awesome! We actually did perform the dance at the wedding reception & all the guests loved it!
The space was huge & really beautiful. Angel was super fun & amazing. And Melissa, who I worked with to set up the event, was so pleasant & lovely. Overall, an amazing experience!

Wonderful place, very happy to have found it! Took two tango classes so far, something we have been wanting to do for years. Small class size and convenience of lunch time can’t be beat! Count is a terrific teacher and is patience even with those of us who are not. Both my husband and I are enjoying it very much!

I took Yenne Guibert’s Cuban Rumba, Salsa and Folkloric class and IT WAS AMAZING!!! Yenne is a fantastic instructor – she made the class very fun and very educational – taking the time to convey the context and meaning of the movements and the music. The live drumming by Siete Potencias made the class absolutely exceptional. They kept the music coming for the full 2 hour class – what a perfect afternoon! The floor at Studio 24 is excellent and the whole place looked great as usual (I come for other events as well.) Highly recommend! I’m looking forward to taking some more Cuban Salsa classes in addition to tango and milonga at Studio 1924.

I absolutely love this place! The space is intimate and awesome. The owners Melissa and Count are warm and personable. The array of classes and parties they offer are dizzying; you don’t know where to start first! Many of the classes are taught by world class instructors with lots to offer.
Another nice thing about it, is you can also rent the place for your own functions!
It is an awesome place for great dancing, but don’t take my word for it…

Studio 1924 is a gem — as in DIAMOND. Their quality offerings say it all — a range of classes for both adults and for children. In contrast to formulaic dance studio development, the owners have managed to create a space that is both easy to get to and out-​of-​this-​world. Don’t know if the word «innovation» is in their mission statement, but it should be, because evertime I go there, they’ve added something new that makes the whole place even better.

I have a degree in music and I play a bunch of instruments, but somehow I never learned to dance. A few months ago I decided to conquer my insecurity and continue my quest to become a true Renaissance Man … Studio 1924 to the rescue.
So I can’t compare to many other places. But I’ve learned a ton here in a short time period, and Count and Melissa have been super welcoming.
The lunchtime classes in particular tend to be small — great for someone who needs a lot of individual remedial how-​to-​walk-​without-​tripping type help — and the instructors have a strong focus on getting the basics right and building up from there.
My favorites:
* Steph’s Wednesday West Coast Swing class. I find myself dancing a little west coast even just walking down the street.
* Garry’s Tuesday lunchtime Salsa
* Miguel’s Monday and Wednesday night Cuban Salsa classes.
Street parking can be a little rough a lunch but is fine in the evenings. Not too far from BART either.

My sister found a Unilocal discount for this place and wanted to try it out. We went for a weds hip hop class and the class was awesome. There were 4 students at that time but the class was so much fun. Instructor was great and the place was huge.
Only saw street parking, most are 1-​hr limit which was a bummer. The parking garage I still have to checkout.
I was seriously bummed I can’t go back due to health issues but will be back when my MD says its okay.

Studio 1924 is one of the top destinations for Tango in the Bay Area. There is an excellent rotation of local DJs plus an awesome new floor and ample parking near by. If you are trying to maintain a small carbon footprint, it is very close to 19th Street Bart. Count and Melissa have taken meticulous care to create a fantastic dance experience and Sunday afternoons have become my favorite time to tango.

Studio 1924 is the best place in downtown/​Uptown Oakland you’ve not yet heard of.
If you work downtown you may have walked by and missed it, because it’s upstairs.
Here’s what awaits for coming in and going up:
–Yoga
–Pilates
–Zumba
–Argentine tango
–Salsa
–more
All the above classes, available as lunchtime breaks with or without lunch, right there by your work. And on the weekends social dance parties for salsa, Argentine tango, and 80s music (separately, of course – check the schedule).
Available for private parties and as a practice space with reasonable floor fees. Nice little chill areas with couches too.
Because it’s new the classes are currently small, but the instructors are great. Take advantage of this while you can! And tell your friends so this wonderful gem will stick around.

Tiniest walk from the 19th St. BART, means even city dwellers (where IS Oakland anyhow? Brooklyn?) can get there.
