This place tried to charge my husband $ 10 a day for me being there. But get this… I’M HISWIFELEGALLY. «IDIOT«.So when we asked for our money back, cause no man should have to pay extra for his wife… He told us that we can never come back there, Ever. we left. Never wanting to ever go back.

The place is a dump. But I thought of it as a cool sort of dump ’till I got plagued by some heavy-duty TV noise from the homeless shelter next door. Last night they were playing something that sounded like a snuff movie over there and I freaked out and called the police. Currently, it’s 2:25 am, and the guy next door is still blaring his TV. Again, I went to the front desk and the woman told me there’s nothing she can do, and get this: IF I CALLTHEPOLICEAGAIN I WILLNOTBEALLOWEDTORENTTHEREANYMORE! So basically, these people grab your money, refuse to do what it takes to give you a peaceful night’s rest(i.e., fulfill their part of the contract) and then they proceed to tell you that if you have any kind of problem, they can take away your right to police protection! I’ll phone a lawyer in the morning.

The Sutter Hotel, hmmmm, I can sum up my one week stay in one word: itch! I essentially paid $ 320.00 for a room, only to be devoured, no massacred by the heavily infested bed bugs. $ 320.00 also netted me a shower in which the water pressure was so poor I had to wash by hand, I was also provided a code to wi=fi that didn’t work, and oh yeah, the place stunk. The Sutter Hotel is aware of it’s bed bug infestation, and when you check-in, you must sign a waiver acknowledging that you were informed about bed bugs. The Sutter Hotel really should be shut down, how they can increase their rates and be the same shirty hotel is unfathomable.

Way better than any SRO in Sucker Full City. Cool old 7 story building in the shadows of the Fed building and City Hall/City Center. Compared to that freakshow dump down the street called the Emperian/Menlo Hotel, the Sutter is a palace. And they have the same rates as that shithole. ~$ 300 per week, yikes! Relatively low compared to the techno-partments kitty corner from Sutter(called DOMAIN lol). Symbolically helping make the rates high. It also helps that they’re in the«good» part of downtown. City center /Oldtown Oakland. Has a serious Wes Anderson vibe. They have an elevator and elevator guy. There’s budgies in the lobby. Killer tacos downstairs. Corner stow. A few blocks from Telegraph &20th/Uptown, cool. Enjoy while you can, Über corporate headquarters is coming soon, not cool. Check the room before you stay. Some are better than others. It can get rowdy but not in a dangerous kind of way. Not like the Blade Runner like TL.

THISREVIEWISFOR A WEEKLYSTAYONLY(not nightly) *Oakland can be very deceiving when it comes to cheap hotels, so make sure you know what area you are staying in and what surrounds you. NOWIFI, CASHONLY LOCATION: This hotel is located in front of the Federal building in the Civic Center in Oakland. It is located perfectly, walking distance from the Civic Center Bart station, 10 minute bike ride to Lake Merrit, 10 minute bike ride to Jack London Square, 15 minute bike ride to Emeryville. There are stores and food within a short walk. CVS and Rite Aid on Broadway corners, 2 burrito places, subway, peruvian restaurant downstairs, and bars and clubs on 12th st. It takes 15 – 20 minutes to get to San Fran by bart. It is very centraly located, you don’t need a car to stay here. BEWARE: even tho it is a very accesible location, it’s surrondings aren’t so attractive… there is 2 low income/section 8 apartments behind the hotel. APPERANCE: From the outside of the building it looks like your regular old school city hotel, nothing but a brick building with an old sign. The lobby is between the burrito place and subway, you can miss it if you’re looking to find a fancy hotel lobby. It has the front desk, a mirrored wall, the laundry and the elevator. The hotel looks like its from the 1920’s(not sure), like I said this is not a facy hotel, more like your basic MOTEL6. Inside the rooms there is a bed, dresser, desk, tv, chair, mini fridge, microwave and a good size closet. You have the choice of shared bathroom or private, personally I prefer private bathroom(YOUPAYEXTRA) but tottaly worth it. There is NOWIFI in the hotel yet, they said they are working on it. MANAGMENT: The people who work here are very nice, they ask you what room you are staying in to keep track of persons coming in and out the hotel at al times. The elavator opperators and front desk personnel were very nice and attentive. SAFETY: During the day time I felt very comfortable walking everywhere by myself here(im a short, thin girl), yes there are bums and shaddy looking people but it’s the city! At night tho it’s a different story. I would recomend you get a taxi back to the hotel and get dropped off right in front so you’re not walking around. The noise of screaming homeless at night fighting with each other and the drug users/dealers is ridiculous. I had to sleep with my tv on and ear foamies every night to block the noise. Sirens and popping noises and loud motorcycles was a nightly event. I took some getting used to. As for the hotel itself I felt very safe, the door is closed at 11pm and only people staying at the hotel is allowed in.
