Came here on a Friday night after buying a Groupon. The dining room was spacious, but for a Friday it was super quiet. The tapas and sangria were decent. I also liked the coconut rum mojito. Unfortunately I don’t see this being a place I’d become a regular at, but I might go again for happy hour.

So… I ordered breakfast here once. Chorizo and eggs. Have you ever watched Anthony Bourdain’s «No Reservations?» Because there is this part where he goes to Africa and hangs out with some Bushmen people and they cook an ostrich egg by digging a little divet in the sand, pouring the egg in that, and then they cover the egg with the sand, and then after a while pick it up and brush it off and eat it. This was like that.

I wanted to like Tatuyo, I really did. My fiancé and I live close by and the thought of having a tapas place with great drinks close by was very appealing. We even bought a recent google offer so we’d be encouraged to head there instead of feeling lazy and ordering takeout. We ordered the garlic shrimp, scallops with chorizo hash, and carne asada tacos. The carne asada looked and tasted dry and rubbery. Kind of like beef jerky. Very disappointing. The shrimp was ok but nothing special with huge chunks of garlic but no true flavor. The scallops I’ll admit were good but I think $ 10 for 2 small scallops is a bit steep. The sangria was also decent but again, nothing to write home about. Given its convenience we might be back for the mojito special on Monday or margarita special on Wednesday. We’ll eat someplace else first.

Anyone who reviews this place over a two needs to make sure this is the right place. I’ve been here twice for lunch and you couldn’t have a bigger strike out. First time we were greeted by the owner who promised the best burritos around. We all made different orders(3 of them) All different Steak, Chicken, Veggie. Every single one was visablly wrong. First off we got all chicken. One was without lettuce. All had lettuce. One was without cheese and sour cream because my friend was lactoce intollerant and guess what all of them had sour cream and cheese. Well aside from him we’d already been back to our desks so we settled for what we had. My lactoce friend went back to exchange his only to wait 15 minutes in an empty restaurant with one other person. He asks what the other person is waiting for and he says that his burrito was screwed up too. Well my friend gets his burrito and checks it and it STILL had sour cream and cheese. Well after all that I thought well I’m not going back. Unfortuantely I did. I got duped by a great deal on a sandwich board which was burger, fries, and a soda for 6 dollars. How could I pass on that? I should have. My friend and I ordered sat down and 20 minutes later in a very empty restaurant we finally got our burgers. We knew it was going to be a problem when we watched the cook and server bounce back and forth on the confusion of this simple order. The owner had to step in but he was no help. We got the burgers and it was right out of an elementary cafeteria. We just about cracked up. Of course they didn’t bring us fries. Clearly in a panic they took another 10 minutes to whip up our order of fries which clearly were two steps down from Orida fries. We couldn’t help but laugh again. It was a horrible meal but the comedic confusion of the staff was almost worth the pain. Thankfully the food was so processed and fake it didn’t give us a belly ache. Though the back pain we got for laughing was pretty rough. Bottom line don’t go here and if you do don’t make the mistake I did of going twice.

Until I go back and if I go back, I can’t really put more than 2 stars. They had a groupon for three tacos and 2 sangrias at 12 dollars with rice and beans but they were out of the two last items and the only available tacos were chicken and beef. We were the only customers. End up ordering the only available items on menu. Chicken and beef. Both were over cooked and tasteless. Sangria was from a bottle and ok. So many great Mexican places or taco trucks… u expect more. Owner was nice but does it make the place worth going, not really.

The carne asada was really good — I ordered a burrito grande and carne asada nachos to go. The burrito came w/chips. My only gripe is there there is no salsa bar! However I can understand if there isn’t much foot traffic it’s probably wise to keep prepackaged salsa in a fridge. I wish more people would frequent this area other than going to Le Cheval as this specific building has had so much business turnover. They are open until 7 or 8pm M-Sat, and closed on Sundays.

Had dinner at appx 6:30 on Thursday night. You order at the counter and they serve you at the table. The chips were warm, crispy and tasty and they have a salsa bar at the far end. We tried 4 salsas and it all tasted fresh. I ordered the Mexican enchiladas(beef) with rice and whole pintos. The shredded beef in the enchiladas was really tasty and the bean were freshly cooked with good flavor. My husband had Chile Verde which was also tasty and port was nice chunks with flavor. Service was good and the owner Sergio is really nice. They play sports on their large screen and will show futbol so another reason to come again. Nice find closer to our house near the lake since we went off Cantaros a year ago.

I reallllllly wanted to like Tatuyo but it just didn’t do anything for me. I came here after a weekend workout for lunch and was pretty disappointed. The food was on the more expensive end($ 3 fish taco, $ 2.25 al pastor) of casual Mexican cuisine. They also didn’t have any of the side items you expect to be standard at most Mexican places like pickled jalapenos and carrots, radishes, lime, pico de gallo or a salsa bar. I don’t mind paying extra for the food: it’s a big restaurant with tall ceilings and I understand they have to pay rent. But I need the food to be tasty at least. Also there was a nauseating smell coming from the back of the restaurant that smelled like sewage issues and spoiled meat. On a positive note the owner was really nice. They also have a full bar and some cool specials like $ 5 for a taco and tequila shot. I think I will give this place another shot but it definitely did not impress the first go around. Also they usually have Groupon Nows! and Unilocal daily deals going so save a few bucks if you choose to check this place out.

I’ve been here a few times now. The owner is a very nice gentleman who has greeted my friend and I very warmly every time we’ve come here. The first couple times I’ve been here it was dead empty, which was expected as they are still very new. The last time I was there it was quite busy as they have just received their liquor license. I’ve had the tacos and burritos here and both are great. They do give you chips to munch on while you wait and provide water in fancy bottles. Now the last time I’ve been here there were a few discrepancies with our order(my friend’s order was missing a couple items, I had a ordered tacos with sour cream and guacamole but got regular tacos instead, and their tortas are not what I expected. But, they are new, so I’ll be here a few more times before I make hasty judgement. Otherwise, I like their food. They do offer other things like burgers and hot dogs but I have yet to make that venture.

I recently visited Tatuyo for lunch and had an amazing burrito. The inside is much larger than your average taqueria and there were plenty of tables. Although, I’m not even sure I should call this place a taqueria, since we received table service, chilled glasses and a water carafe presently elegantly in a wine bottle give the impression that this place is something more. All the staff were go-out-of-their-way friendly and we even were offered a free sample of their sangria(delicious). Easily one of the best burritos I’ve ever had in Oakland. Definitely will be heading back soon.

Decent prices. Tasty food. Varied menu. A little over a month since their opening, and I’ve probably been to Tatuyo at least 6 or 7 times. I’ve tried a lot of their menu. The carne asada is juicy and flavorful. Their hot dogs are solid, good footlongs. Their grilled fish tacos are usually some of the best I’ve had. I dont usually like grilled versions, but Tatuyo serves it up right. Their hamburgers aren’t really anything special, but they’re good for the price. The only truly disappointing item on the menu is the salads. I don’t think that anyone ever orders them, so they weren’t sure how to make them. It was mostly lettuce and tomato for $ 7. Not good. Overall, I’ve loved 95% of the food I’ve had here, and I definitely need to support the only decent Mexican restaurant in the area. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I have been back repeatedly, and will continue to come back. Someday I’ll get to finally try the ceviche– its been sold out every time I’ve gone.

Sergio, the owner, is very friendly and happy to talk about the delicious food on the menu(pineapple on the nachos? I’m so trying that next time). I had the chicken salad, and the chicken was incredibly delicious. My eating partner said that the al pastor on his quesadilla was also very well cooked. Given the back luck this location has had in recent months and years, I’m happy to support a good local restaurant with good food at reasonable prices. We’ll be back soon.

Tatuyo? More like TatuYUMMM.(Forgive the Rachael Ray-esque pun.) Onward … Rising from the ashes of 1015 Clay, Tatuyo offers above-average finesse and some American embellishments(e.g., the burgers & fries) towards simple Mexican fare than most taquerias. More importantly, their dishes are made more ’boutique’ than mass-market chains, using Niman beef and some crazy good verde and smokey-tomato salsas. Personal experience: my carne asada burrito grande was just short of a revelation. Not quite in sync taste-wise with most Mexi-American burritos, but delightfully variant, lovingly wrapped and oh-so tasty. Accompanied by chips and salsas. Folks, their salsas are to die for. I asked in particular about their verde salsa and got«it’s a secret recipe» as a response, but its verdant freshness suggested a hint of mint. The«Bisteck Ranchero,» featuring Niman beef, was a waltz of spice, savory and meaty/veggie goodness. Friends and co-workers have reported the following: 1. The OAK burger, great; 2. the fries, great; 3, the street hot dog(wrapped in bacon), good; the 4. the chicken burrito, a bit dry(far unlike my very moist carne asada burrito); and 5. The fish(mahi-mahi) tacos, terrific. One suggestion: they need to update some of their interior décor, as the wall color and paintings are from the old 1015 Clay establishment. Might I suggest warm paint tones? And one caveat: If you call ahead for pick-up, be clear when ordering from the owner, who’s obviously passionate about his food and the success of his establishment. Open just a few weeks, Tatuyo is still fine-tuning some of its services. But I’ve already pointed several grateful folks to them for lunch, so I share this suggestion with you. Overall, Tatuyo leans more to 3.5 stars for right now, but I’ll be surprised if that rating doesn’t rise when they get more experience under their belts.

A great new place! I have to be honest, when I saw the sign go up here I thought it was going to be a Japanese place, based on how the name sounded and the font. I was surprised but delighted to find a Taqueria here. I was doubly-excited to see they claim to use Niman Ranch meat. It’s not perfect but a heck of a lot better than most of the other places around here. I always have a hard time figuring out where to eat on the days that I don’t bring my lunch, because so few places even make a nod to sustainability. I dragged a whole pile of coworkers over the first week it opened. I got the«Burrito Palenque», which evidently means«Fortress» or something. It was super spicy because they add jalapenos. I recommend sticking with the regular burrito and adding hot sauce. The burrito was amazingly non-greasy though. I think it was the least greasy burrito I’ve ever had. So non-greasy that I felt I wanted to add cheese or sour cream or guacamole or something. Everyone was pleased with the food. I think the service will become better with time as things work themselves out. I’m so glad that these guys moved in to take over the space so that a vacant hole isn’t left here.

Big open space with equally big menu with tacos, burritos, burgers, hot dogs, nachos, quesadillas, tapas, and larger plates. There’s a large open space between the table area and the back wall. Not sure what the plans are for that. I ordered 3 tacos. Asada, pastor, and fish($ 2.8 for the fish and $ 2.5 for the other two). The menu says the asado & pastor come with meat, salsa, onions, and cilantro. I asked for no cilantro and got meat on tortillas with no salsa or onions( ). They do have a salsa bar and I had gotten some for my bowl of complimentary chips( ) so used some of those on my tacos. The tacos have a lot of meat so make up for the price vs. your standard $ 1.50 truck taco. Wrapping up the fillings, the two sides of the tortillas barely touched in a full circle around the meat. By far the best was the fish taco. Chunks of nicely seasoned moist fish cubes griddled on the flattop, some cabbage salad, and pico de gallo. Carne asada was good, though slightly on the dry side. The ‘pastor’ looked and tasted like carnitas( ). I like carnitas so didn’t bring it up with the cashier(owner?) when he brought out the plate. Unfortunately this was just the crispy edges with no moist meat. In other words, very, very dry. Fish taco: 5 stars Carne asada: 3.5 stars «pastor»: 2 stars Overall: 3.5 stars. Rounding up for the friendly owner(?) and the divine fish taco.

Okay, there is a TON of good mexican food in San Francisco. That is common knowledge. I’ve heard its not so in Oakland and I rarely go out that way, but when I do make it out to the Easy Bay, I’m always clueless about where to go and what to eat. I’ve tried a few places around the BART stations, enjoying this or that, but never really going back. Thanks to Tatuyo, that is about to change. I ordered the carne asada torta, and it was delicious! Service was prompt, and everyone was really nice. The inside of the place is huge! Really spacious and well lit. They don’t accept credit cards yet so you’ll have to have cash on you, but they said that its in the works and it should be up and running soon. Definitely a great place to check out, and I will be returning!
