Sort of a generic space for your bar-going or special event needs. Eh

For a dollar more, I would rather pay to get a drink here than to get a watered down version in the Fox. Lots of loungey areas and so nice that its not packed like other bars downtown. We stayed here awhile after our show, the music they were playing(for a short while at least) was great too!

Here’s your Fox Theater pre-show pre-game strategy: Don’t bother waiting in line. Hop in The Den, grab a drink from the nice bartenders, chat it up with new and old friends. Get excited for your show. Max out in a chill ambiance and watch the line go by. Yes, they won’t preferentially let you in earlier or anything, but once the line is moving they’ll let you in once the majority of said line is through. Besides, as a paying ticket holder once you’re scanned, you’ll get it no prob! Cheers!

Umm. I want to be nice because this is someone’s livelyhood but errr. What’s the deal with the three chairs in the middle of the room and overpriced drinks in plastic cups. ?Maybe im a budding snob but hmmm. I could have purchased me a bottle of wine and went home and turned on my stereo and saved myself a trip.

Great atmosphere for a night out on the town… right in the midst of Oakland’s metamorphosis. Nice and cozy atmosphere for a group or date. COMPLAINTS: What’s up with the $ 8.00 cocktails in PLASTICCUPS??? Very poor taste. No wait staff to take drink orders… only, the Bartenders, who were grouchy, curt and CANNOT make a drink to save their lives. I hope for the best, expected more… and was dissapointed.

Why I love The Den [ on a Wednesday night… AKA Ladies Night] Location: It is just a hop, skip, or drunken stumble from the bart station Décor: Its a piece of the Fox Theater so it’s all art deco & loungey with cozy couches and arm chairs positioned in intimate little corners Music: Guaranteed to be playing something you can shake your booty to Atmosphere: The biggest and best-est assortment of hot lezzies you ever saw! 8bonus* the bathrooms are pretty clean

Perfect snacks before a show, great drink options, STRONG G + T’s! Plus, friendly bartenders and a kickass vibe. Could use a little more table space, but I’d absolutely come here again before a show at the Fox Theatre. Good first date destination too!

Is this place ever open? the ONLY time i ever see anyone in there is when there is a show or on a First Friday. I’ve come here randomly on a weeknight during their«business hours» and it wasnt open. I think i have been here twice now and once was when there was a show and the other time i think i was one of the only customers. Its too bad though because the space looks nice.

Favorite thing about The Den? They serve Full Sail’s Session Lager. I know, it shouldn’t be what defines a place but I think it’s a perfect way to describe it. I’ll drink a couple of the petite beers and then move on to the next bar. It’s a great place to start of end the nights. Just a session, that’s all. I couldn’t spend all day here. They have an entrance to the Fox which makes it über convenient to get to the show. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever gone through the main entrance. Certain nights the place turns into a club. This is when no Sessions are had. I don’t really care for that scene. I do like the couple of TVs though. They’ll play local sports, especially the A’s. This makes me happy. They have a good selection of beer and liquor at a fair price. The place won’t break the bank, which is always a good thing. I’ll return for another session of Session.

Beautiful Deco surroundings to match its parent theater. Well worth a visit especially if you’re seeing a show at The Fox. Cute play on the name of this bar, btw. Gorgeous all around. But the drinks(and from what I could tell from the menu, the food) are fairly nondescript and pricier than surrounding watering holes. Come for the atmosphere, but don’t empty your wallet over it.

There is a laundry list of reasons to visit The Den!!! 1) The bartenders are Awesome. 2) It’s comfy… Lots of different options of furniture to kick back and relax on. 3) There is a good sound system, and often dj’s. 4) TV’s, tho I’m not a huge fan of Tv’s, those sports fans would love it. 5) The have CIDAR! I’m a fan of any place that has an option for Cidar(I don’t do much liquor, and I’m pretty much gluten free) 6) A super cute bartender with Red Hair to gaze upon(Eye Candy, CHECK!) 7) The cocktails they make are GOOD. 8) SOCLOSETOBART! EVENSFFOLKSCAN’T COMPLAIN! 9) Great spot to meet up before the shows… Way better then trying to fish your friends out of the ocean of folks inside 10) During the shows, it’s a little known secret that there is virtually NOWAIT to get drinks there… Is 10 reasons enough? HEREIS #11 ! JUICEBOX! - A new monthly music jam to shake it like a Polaroid picture :) Mi Gusta, Mucha.

I was so impressed with the remodel here — the entire place is clean and classy — I definitely felt underdressed. This is not a «casual» atmosphere. Excellent mixed drinks and beer selection, comfy furniture set up with relaxing and conversation in mind — no matter if your group is 3 or 8 — you can get together before a show or after a meal and find a spot here.

Damn this place for affordable cocktails. Damn my nasty hangover. This Den can use a make-over. The whole urban/lounge/dance /modern/local/hipster/hotel/thing is not a good look for them. Let’s leave multi-tasking to our day jobs, hmm? The bouncers were really nice but It confused me as to why velvet ropes were rolled out if no dress code was enforced. Am I at a bar? Should I order a beer? Are those couches reserved? \ I felt like a fish out of water. Kudos on the music. Back to back dance jams from the 90’s. Of course I loved it.

Although I live across the street, I don’t go often. We went on a Fri night, and it seemed fine. A mixed crowd, decent dj, but no real«hook». Crowd was all over the place, and no real identity. Good for dancing, I suppose.

The décor is interesting. I like the fake robotic, machinery wall with all the buttons and levers. The chairs were comfy and the staff was nice. After an error with the guest list at The Fox, I was pretty bummed to be without a ticket for Broken Bells. I was waiting around awhile outside trying to sort the ticket dilemma, when the staff from The Den welcomed me and told me I should have a seat, relax and catch the show inside. Hands down the best thing about this bar are the multiple screens streaming the live concert happening inside The Fox Theater. I was able to see and hear Broken Bells perform, so that was the next best thing to actually being legitmately inside the venue. I will definitely keep this in mind for the future if there’s sold out show at The Fox I simply can’t miss.

I like the Den best late afternoon, before it gets crowded. You know how most folks like to go to a café– get some coffee, perhaps a pastry, and then find a reasonably clean comfortable spot where they can go online or read a book, play with their smart phone, etc– hopefully a comfy couch, or cool chair. I like to do that occasionally as well, but I much prefer a classy bar, which during the day has a similar feel, just without the crowd of yammering ____________!!! (you just thought i meant a bad word didn’t you. nope, you did! haha– i was thinking hipsters.) Have any of you been to the Den during the day when you can actually see just how cool the décor looks? It is one of the few classy joints with great bartenders you can walk into before 7pm. Also for those of you who have seen a great show at the Fox and popped into the den before or after, you know, like I do, that having The Den right next door prolongs a great experience! What took away a star for me was the plastic cups– after happy hour, in such a nice place– they seemed out of context and WAY to noticeable. too bad, woulda been an easy 5 stars!

I stopped here for trivia night with some friends and we were quite impressed with this bar. The interior is sleek and sophisticated. The vibe is chill. Everyone is really friendly. A glass of wine was $ 6-$ 8. Not too shabby. I could imagine this place might not be very fun when it’s crowded but when it’s not, it’s a great place to lounge with some friends. I might have to make this place a regular stop for Tuesday night trivia. Best of all, you can win tickets to a show at the Fox Theater. That beats playing for beer and pizza any day of the week. You all are invited to join me of course. The appetizer menu seemed pretty small but if you’re not looking for food, I would highly recommend this bar even if you’re not seeing a band.

My friend and I were looking for a place to grab some drinks and have a good time. We drove down Telegraph and spotted this place. It seemed out of place. It was large and in charge. You could see happy people inside and outside. Bright lights were flashing and we heard hip-hop. It seemed like just the place for us. We walked in and found it was ladies night. By ladies night, I mean lesbian night. And that was fine by us. We’re ladies, so we fit right in. People were expecting all kinds of women to show up and we know girls are much less obvious when they check people out. There wasn’t that awkward moment when you come in and the guys undress you with their eyes. When I ordered a cran-vodka and a Long Island iced tea I nearly dropped my cash when the bartender told me it would be $ 17. My friend said that actually wasn’t a bad price. I didn’t feel so bad when I realized that the drinks were quite strong and the Long Island was thrice the size of my low-ball vodka.

I’m a snobby cosmopolitan City girl from birth, so sometimes I don’t get out to the other happenin’ spots around the Bay. Well, I’m thankful that I happened to venture out this fine Halloween ’09, because the Den was pretty durn good. Maybe it was my gorgeous date, or the tasty libations… whatever it was, I had a sweet time. Great vibe, cool people, fantastic music selection, and good drinks. The ceiling is absolutely beautiful and the couches were super comfy. I also dug the nooks and crannies of spots to sit and chill. In a dark corner you could really feel someone up. I was curious about the plastic cup situation, but thought that since it was Halloween, they probably had a larger number of drinks to serve and so put the glass on vacation. In looking at other reviews, however, I see this is just their normal thing. See, now, that’s just wrong. In San Francisco we serve real glassware all the time.
