I made the pilgrimage across the bay last night to catch Two Gallants at The New Parish which was a great show may I add. Anyways got there a little early so stopped in at The Rock Steady for a few pre show drinks. What a beautiful job they’ve done renovating this bar. The space is great, cocktails cheap and very well executed. $ 8 for a Laphroaig based cocktail can’t be bad at that. Bartender was very pleasant and keen to strike up conversation. Great addition to the uptown neighborhood. I’ll definitely make a point of stopping back here next time I’m in Oakland.

Drink prices were fare, and the bartender was very nice. You can order food from next door and they’ll bring it over, but that staff was not very helpful. the bar is very small but intimate. I would come back if I was in the area :)

Stumbled upon this spot by accident when we found out a show we were attending at the New Parish was cancelled. Really cool little bar— warm, welcoming, eclectic décor with friendly, attendant bartenders and a very chill crowd! This also happened to be the same night they had a Brazilian drum corp coming in to perform out back so we ended up staying for the entertainment as well! Just writing this review is reminding me I need to hit up The Rock Steady again soon!

Cute little joint. Shares back porch with the New Parish and has doorway into Hibiscus. Bonus points for a quality martini and a cute little space.

The Rock Steady is the bar next to Hisbiscus and the New Parish. It’s owned by Hisbiscus but operated separtely. Happy Hours are 5-?, drafts are $ 3, jameson whiskey(5), combination(7) –beers come in plastic cups, probably 16 ounces. not sure of mixed drinks, lots of choices to choose from. draft availability –stella –oaktown(porter?) –shock top –lager? or mispour, thought it should be a dark beer. on draft: –seems all drinks served in plastic, saves labor, hurts environment.

This could be a great place if the bartender was better. I ordered a very simple drink … a kamikaze… she didn’t know how to make it! My friend ordered the sangria and it tasted weird too. Maybe she was having an off night. I should have got a beer instead, can’t mess that up! I do like that it was a nice place to start our night before the show at The New Parish, so I will give it another try sometime, I like the bar wish the bartender was not as frazzled and made better drinks.

This place has been through some changes. As far as I know, it started as a bar as a part of the Hibiscus restaurant. After the Hibiscus became the Hibiscus Café, the bar split off and now has the name Rock Steady. Nevertheless, there’s still a double doorway between the Rock Steady and the Hibiscus Café so you can get some good Southern eats at the Rock Steady. Comfortable, trendy bar. I think it has access to a back patio that is also used by the New Parish. It’s all very confusing to me. Adequate street parking. On the border of real questionable neighborhoods.

Who serves neat scotch in a plactic cup? At least give it to me in a rocks glass or better yet a nosing glass. I have a feeling the bartendar, who was really nice by the way, is new to the game and probably didn’t know better. With that said, the place seems cool to me. Had a nice live band playing on an early Saturday evening. They serve food which looked and smelled good too. I’ll give this place another try but I’ll probaby stick with draft beer. Wanna say they had 3 taps: Trumer Pils, Arrogant Bastard? and one other.
