LOVE! No matter what I’m doing on Oakland’s First Friday, I make time to visit the Stroopie Gourmet. I usually order under an alias(shhhh!) and the wonderful couple who bring us these amazing delights know I mean business when they see my face. Not only are they super kind and have charisma to boot… that menu tho. The figgy piggy with it’s crispy salty bacon and the sweet black mission fig is the best culinary marriage I never dreamed of and is know all I think about. Don’t get me started on the smores or bacon bourbon cheese and caramel stroopies. If you want a temporary trip to foodie heaven come here. If you’re counting calories stop! Just eat it and love it!

We hired Lily and Todd from Stroopie Gourmet for a house party last Saturday and the guests were completely raving about their yummalicious waffles. Our guests had a choice of a caramel waffle or one that’s half caramel with a selection of homemade jams: Blackberry Greensage, Strawberry Apple Butter, Strawberry Pluot, and Strawberry Blackberry Rose Geranium. I had a plain caramel waffle and then tried a second one that was half caramel/half Strawberry Blackberry Rose Geranium Jam. OMG. Both were delicious but the second waffle literally disappeared in 30 seconds. The waffle was crispy on the outside and had the perfect combination of jam and caramel in the inside. Good thing Lily made extra waffle dough for our party because I saw many of my guests come back to try all of the variations. Lily also recommended their hot chocolate to go with the waffles. So glad we ordered that too since it was the perfect combination. My guests and I were in total dessert heaven. Highly recommend Stroopie Gourmet to cater your parties. Todd and Lily were great. Very easy to work with, so professional, and super-friendly. 5 Starts hands down!

I wanted to love the stroopwafel from Stroopie Gourmet, but it missed the mark a bit for me. There was not enough caramel filling, so my cookie ended up tasting dry. If I were to put it over hot coffee, there would not be enough filling to even get gooey. Sadly, I was left disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, the flavor and the cookie itself was very good, but it just needed more filling. My friend who tried one agreed and felt it was too dry(he had never had a stroopwafel prior). That said, I would give Stroopie Gourmet another chance and try to ask to add extra extra stroop with my wafel. I am beyond *DYING* for a delicious stroopwafel like I had in Amsterdam. Stroopie Gourmet, maybe it was just an off night for you.

I’ve been wanting to review Stroopie Gourmet for a long time, so here I go! I love, love, LOVE these waffels. Whenever I am fortunate to catch these guys in action I get so excited to eat one of the tasty treats. It’s neat to watch them being cooked, and the waffel tastes amazing every time I’ve had it(not often enough!). I can literally feel myself salivate as I write this, they’re craveable and somewhat addictive. I’ve tried plain caramel, caramel mixed with nectarine jam, and I want to say, caramel mixed with plum jam? The owners, Todd and Lily, are fun to interact with, and have always been nice and helpful. I highly recommend Stroopie Gourmet to anyone who has not tried it yet, and I am really glad these guys are Oakland-based.

I tried The Stroopie Gourmet for the first time at a Unilocal event, and boy was it de-lish-shous! I have a forever-insatiable sweet tooth and this definitely hit the spot. Crunchy on the outside, sweet on the inside — I only wish I had some ice cream or tea to accompany this delicious cookie. Keep the sweetness coming, Stroopie Gourmet!

Had my first fresh stroopwafel at a YEE — Oakland Aviation Museum! It’s amazing how a thing waffle with caramel taste so good! Fresh, hot, crunchy and slightly sweet. It was the perfect combination. It was probably the only vendor that I kept coming back to. In fact, they started remembering me. They were giving out quarter sizes, but as for my last stroopwafel, they gave me the whole thing! I will definitely look for in them in the near future, in fact, I follow them on Instagram!

super tasty and a good selection of tasty flavors. the people behind Stroopie Gourmet as also very pleasant! I think it’s important to know that a Stroopwaffel is not a waffle like you and I know it. It’s more cookie like(Stroop means syrup) than crunchy belgium waffles or eggos. Now that’s not saying it couldn’t be crunchy but I totally understand if that’s not how they are supposed to be. Regardless, put one in your mouth and you too will be a Stroopie Groupie.

These folks were at the Eat Real Fest 2013 and I haven’t had this waffle cookie in ages and was super excited to get my hands on one. Listening to the guy talk to people as he made the orders made him very approachable. I ordered the caramel and it came out piping hot. Unfortunately the batter didn’t have as much flavor as I was expecting and the waffle part wasn’t as crispy as I would’ve liked. Love how they have so many different flavors you can choose from and that they’re made-to-order but was too disappointed to probably try again.

We decided to check them out yesterday at the Eat Real Fest, and boy we’re glad we did! We got the savory Bacon/Cheese and a Mission Fig waffle. OMG! the waffles are so light and delicate. We both enjoyed them. :)

Class act. That’s what this place is. Who in the hell walks up to a food stall and immediately insults their food? Californians, that’s who. What do these guys do? Smile. Then in a genuinely friendly voice, address the(potential) customer’s very rudely stated concerns. What happens? The woman goes, «Oh.» Then proceeds to make an order, an alternate version of the product that was always available if she’d bothered to read the helpful signs stating the information that she was just verbally told. Whose the winner? BOTHOFTHEM. The vendor makes money and this woman is about to get a mouthful of wonderful. Made fresh, these waffles are the perfect texture of soft & warm & chewy. They are gingersnap, and gingerbread, and waffles all wrapped into one with… caramel sauce. Or jam. Or apple butter. Or any of their other alternatives if for some reason caramel doesn’t work for you and that needed to be announced. *ahem* Brilliant marketing, strong salesmenship, and an ability to be flexible in the American market will hopefully equal success for these folks. Buy extras to bring home. They warm up nice. Though of course… fresh is the absolute best.

A fresh stroopwafel is a little package of waffle-y caramel-y deliciousness! Just enjoyed my first fresh one at the Oakland Open Studios in Jingletown.(These are not like any packaged stroopwafels you might have had before.) Seek them out hot and fresh!

Todd & Lilly are the real stroopwafel experts of the Bay Area. Although I am(just like stroopwafels) form the Netherlands, they have told me so much more about this delicious cookie I was aware of before. I was lucky to enjoy their stroopwafels on multiple occasions and they have been a great contribution to our booth at a conference in San Francisco. If you have tried a fresh stroopwafel before, you don’t know the real taste of stroopwafels!
