Nice stuff at reasonable prices. Tsering is the owner and is a genuinely beautiful person. Happy to have this place on Piedmont Ave!

I called to see if they were open and they were. The guy on the phone was SONICE that I felt compelled to make a journey over to this store. The only thing was is that I got lost. I couldn’t find 3966 on Piedmont Ave. I wish the store was labeled and there was a picture of what the entrance for the store front looked like. That’d be helpful. I was so confused and kept crossing the street, then back. On Unilocal it said the cross st is b/t Montell St &40th St which led me to SAHARA Moroccan Home Décor(very nice guy that worked there). After walking around some more, I found Tibet Bazaar(b/t Montell St & Monte Vista Ave with a nice person that worked there too) and got what I wanted but never found Tibet Horizon. Hm. = /I wanted to give my business to Tibet Horizon because he was so nice on the phone so this is a review on this business based on the phone call. :)

I walked into this store in one weekday afternoon as they reminded of my time in Kathmandu, colorful scarves and clothing that fit me. I ended up having a deep conversation about Tibetan Buddhism and how to live life fully with the owner for almost an hour. I left the store totally rejuvenated. He never pressured me to buy anything. Today, I went back. We had a very nice conversation at the beginning when nobody else was at the store. Eventually other customers came in and so I started shopping too and listening to his correspondence with other customers. His sincerity, calmness, as well as kindness were obvious in conversations and that makes people come back. I actually bought a colorful, light jacket today that I know I’ll adore:) It’s truly nice to have a neighborhood store like this. I look forward to my next visit.

Come for the clothes and jewelry, linger for the philosophical ruminations. When I wandered in near the end of the day, lured by a particularly cool-looking tank, the man behind the counter had a weary, philosophical but charming attitude. It had to do with opening and closing at precise times, and time is a more flexible medium with him. Sure, not in keeping with the American punctuality(to the point where some places refuse to open a minute earlier or give you the stink-eye when you come in too close to closing time). I’m a rabidly punctual, deadline-oriented person, but there was something about his understated frankness that evoked a «yeah, why should we be beholden to such rigid artificial constraints» empathy. Maybe because we don’t have that many honest shopkeepers around here anymore — or they’re honest and belligerent. If it didn’t make me sound like some fuzzy-headed, patronizing, hippie holdover, I’d almost use the word«authentic» to this encounter. All this and mod-looking cotton dresses that cost under $ 30. Hey, authenticity and crass commercialism can co-exist. Come shop here, just make sure you don’t come right at opening or closing times.

The owner, Tsering, is a total sweetheart and will let you pour through his lovely clothes and wares to find just the right item. In the end, I went with getting a singing bowl that I had been wanting for awhile.

I have an affinity for import shops in general. I popped into Tibet Horizon weeks after it opened in May of 2012. Honestly, I didn’t know the name for a year. After finding a bag that would work as an iPad carrying bag and general mini messenger bag, I chatted with the owner. Upon leaving, I wished him prosperity. I’ve been back several times. If I need a gift, this is stop one. Tsering is still behind the counter, still being a joyful, calming presence. Still carrying a seasonally rotating stock of good gifts. Tibet Horizon is a step up from hippy schlock. A good selection of incense. Mala beads, jewelry, scarves for all weather, clothes for men and woman(shy on kid sizes), small book selection. Lots of religious ornaments. Shop is bright and clean. Give this unassuming shop a try. Chances are, you will be back.

Amazing store with the kindest owner, Tsering. They have beautiful accessories and the owner is super passionate about supporting Tibetan refugees who make most of the stuff he has in this fabulous store. I will most definitely be back for more incense and lovely handcrafted jewelry!

While on the hunt for a Ganesh we stumbled upon this delightful little shop below some yoga studios on Piedmont. The owner was very friendly and we started talking to him about how he had started the business just a few days prior. The shop has a thoughtful collection of Tibetan imports, everything from dresses and scarves to jewelry and opera glasses. We’ll definitely be coming back soon.
