I guess I was expecting more given the hype, but I thought the cheeseburger was decidedly average. I’d rather pay a few extra bucks for a Kronnerburger or a few less for In-N-Out than for this straight up mediocrity. This marks one of the few times when my opinions differ from the Unilocal average. Trueburger always seems to be at a solid 4 stars while Kronnerburger wears an unbecoming 3.5. I’d have to guess that this is mostly due to the price difference because Trueburger’s cheeseburger and fries were almost prohibitively greasy and soggy while Kronnerburger’s burger made me want to sing a song in their honor. Instead I just recommended it to everyone despite their reviews. Maybe I’m wrong; Unilocal reviews do hold up pretty well for me in other cases. Once I try both burgers again I may return with a revision.

I have Deluxe Burger. it was awsome. …and the garlic fries good. this place would have gotten 5 stars from me if I didn’t have to clean my own table. But we will be back

The true deluxe burger w/bacon. OUTSTANDING! Hands down the best burger I’ve ever had. I felt like licking the wrapper, lol.

I was anxious to try this place since I heard so much hype about it being comparable to Shake Shack. I ordered the True Deluxe Burger since its a replica of the Shack Stack(both consists of a cheese burger topped with a mushroom burger). I have to say that it was good but not as good as how I remember the Shack Stack from Shake Shack. The patty was juicy and full of flavor but the mushroom burger did not have enough cheese. Maybe I am just biased and really like Shake Shack, but I’m not sure if I would drive all the way across the bridge for this establishment. I placed my order and within 5 minutes my number was called. Of course, I had to snapchat and take pictures of my food before I ate. The burger comes in paper wrapping, but I noticed the bun was very soggy. The melting cheese was dripping out of my hands. GET A LOTOFNAPKINS! It’s messy. Garlic fries were awesome. Not too garlicky. My boyfriend ordered the Bacon Cheesy Trueburger and I actually liked that burger better than mine. Noise level was loud. Staff who calls out the numbers need to have a loud voice for people to hear the numbers being called. Lots of seating. I definitely recommend people to try it for themselves and you can be the judge.

The hype is real here. We ordered cheesy true burger and my boyfriend ordered the one with double patties. The burger was juicy, a bit messy to eat, but didn’t bother me because it was just that good. Gotta try the garlic fries and that mayo, also yummy! For dessert I ordered a vanilla banana with malt shake. It was okay, nothing like Val’s shakes in Castro Valley. If anything, I compare this place with super duper in SF. I would give this a 9⁄10 :)

3.5 stars. I wanted to try this place because I heard it was as good as Shake Shack. Nope!!! Concept is there, but taste is totally different. Comparing this to SS burger with the fried mushroom and cheese to the True Deluxe-Cheesy Trueburger topped with a Mushroom Burger The burger came out quick and it was cooked perfectly medium rare, but my bun was super soggy. I couldn’t even eat the bottom part of it. The fried mushroom was crunchy, but not enough cheese. I excepted it to be oozing out. Fries and onion rings were crispy, but wasn’t great. Small place, but friendly staff and they do have good milkshakes.

I went here for lunch at the suggestion of my director because I’d been talking to him about food. The space is clean-ish. It’s somewhat small. I ordered the Bacon Cheesy Trueburger with grilled onions and an order of garlic fries. The burger, as a whole, was tasty enough. It was a tad greasy and messy to eat, but that’s fine. The garlic fries were pretty garlicky, which is good. If you’re hankering for an old-fashioned, no frills kind of burger, then get your fix at TrueBurger.

A no frills, hand crafted burger. Keeping it simple is their path towards success. Cooked to order, decent fries, and whoa, a spicy coleslaw! Sometimes the line is a bit long, but well worth the wait. I didn’t milkshake, but I hear they are equally fabulous. Yet, a 1000+ calorie experience.

True Burger is the TRUTH. The burgers are juicy and delish, and well seasoned. I love their vanilla milkshakes. Be careful, they’re addictive! Their fries are meh– nothing to get excited about. They also have garlic fries. I love garlic, but after you eat these you turn into garlic. You are a permanent vampire repellent. It’s too much. Tip: There are often long lines and a wait, but if you call and order your food to go you can truly get it in 5 – 8 minutes. Seriously. Then sit down at a table, and eat it like a winner.

Super fresh and sinfully greasy burgers, especially the double-up, which is basically double the delish. The prices are fairly reasonable given the burgers’ size, and the fact that the menu is limited means that they can focus on doing a few things, and doing them well. The venue is small and can get quite crowded, but while you’re waiting, do let the Kelis-inspired milkshake art at the front of the venue get the better of you, and order a shake or a float to sip on while you’re waiting. Maybe the boys won’t come to your yard, but at least the calories will come satisfyingly to your waist.

Great, local burger that is made fresh and full of flavor! There is no weird frostbite taste to the burger or fries because they are all made fresh! The bun, which is often overlooked, definitely compliments the burgers here. Support local and give TrueBurger a try! I will definitely be back for another TrueBurger and Garlic Fries!(…and even though I shouldn’t, I think I’ll need a milk shake to wash it all down)!

One of the best burgers I have ever had. The best burger I have had in Oakland. I can’t believe that I didn’t get to try this place until the day I moved out of my apartment just two blocks away! Now I am a whole city away, but I will be back!!! AMAZING cheeseburger! Delicious garlic fries. Amazing menu even though it is only a few items. I have come to find that some places with the smallest menus are the best places around! This is a perfect example of quality and care put into food that you would like to see a fraction of in other places. Bravo. Seriously. Hands down one of the best meals this year. Burger was medium rare, juicy, tasty. My mom’s burger was the portabello mushroom cheeseburger and that was amazing as well. This place is very busy and the parking sucks, but it’s worth it!

Yes I love a good Burger for a quick dinner bite, and Trueburger fits the bill. The décor is very basic and metal, but that is fine with me. I ordered what turned out to be a nice hot juicy fairly large Trueburger. We ordered up at the counter then waited about 5 minutes or so for dinner. My wife thought the garlic fries overly garlicky but I was very happy with the garlic fries — nice and crispy and light with lots of garlic! My burger had nice flavor but may have been a bit over cooked. I should have ordered medium rare but ordered medium. It was in the high $ 20s for dinner which included the two burgers, with two fries and one large milkshake. Not a bad value for a quick burger bite on a Friday night.

This place exceeds the hype. It’s pretty small. We beat the crowd. I was starrrrrving. I couldn’t wait any longer to eat and scarfed it down! I have the trueburger, because I’m plain jane, with grilled onions. Sooo good. It was a medium rare and the cook did a good job at getting the temp right! The only thing was the onions made the burger soggy. I suggest cooking the water out before serving. Other than that great burger! We also had the garlic fries. I usually dread getting them and only do because of the bf. But, these were surprisingly delightful! The garlic wasn’t over powering at all. The fries were cooked to perfection. I absolutely love this burger joint and the price is so reasonable. I wish I had the opportunity to try the chili fries. When I’m around lake merritt, I’ll definitely go back!

My buddy told me this was the best burger he has ever had so I figured I’d give it a shot. The cashier was friendly but she should have put more focus on the order because she forgot the bacon on my burger and gave me regular fries instead of garlic. Oh well, I don’t really send food back unless it’s inedible. So the food I did get was great! Fresh burger and the bun makes it over the top delicious. It was an average price for a city burger. 50 cents extra for ranch. I wouldn’t put it at the top of my all time burger list but I will deff be returning. Place is small but still has some tables. It was city clean. No complaints really except the order getting messed up.

A casual burger joint that uses high quality beef for their burger, but that’s easy on the wallet. My husband and I stopped by here to have a quick meal before grocery shopping at Whole Foods. We got there early in the evening, so there weren’t that many people in the restaurant. We ordered at the counter, and were given a number for our order. We ordered 2 Bacon Cheesy Trueburger($ 7.50), a side of garlic fries($ 3.75), and a Chocolate Shake($ 4.95) with Coffee add in. Our burgers were cooked more on the well side(almost no pink), so it wasn’t medium as I ordered. However, it was still pretty juicy. As for flavor, it needed more seasoning. Even with the aioli, the burger was just okay. The garlic fries on the other hand were way too garlicky even for me who does not shy away from garlic. I’m Filipino after all and grew up eating adobo which has lots of garlic in it! Thankfully, the ranch dip mitigated the garlic flavor a bit. The shake was good, a little thinner than I prefer though. If you’re looking for a quick and filling lunch that’s under $ 10 in this area, you can’t go wrong here. It’s better than your typical fast food joint and if you’re a garlic lover, you must get the garlic fries.

Ahhhh! What great food! After a nice day of walking around Lake Merritt my spouse and I found this little spot and fell in love with it. The burgers were awesome, garlic fries were my favorite, and the shakes were bomb! Supporting local is always the way to go. Staff was friendly and the food didn’t take long to cook. Overall, I highly recommend this place!

TrueBurger has been highly recommended to me by some local East bay residents so I had to try it out when I was finally craving some beef. I ordered the regular TrueBurger($ 6 or 7) with the Garlic Fries($ 4?). The burger came out so fast since there was barely any one inside and the fries were so on point. Perfect garlic flavor and good choice of fry cut(not too thin). I didn’t try any milkshakes although I heard those are amazing but I’m not a milkshake fan so I probably won’t ever try it… This place is close to my school and has free parking around the corner. I’d definitely come here on a lunch break.

I’ll admit, I used to watch True Blood, so when I saw True Burger, I started laughing. I pictured vampires eating burgers to sustain themselves. Yes, I looked like a mad man laughing to myself, but I didn’t care. My internal jokes crack me up, and that’s all that matters. Great cheeseburger. I guess this is what people talk about when they say they like In and Out burgers, because the True Burger was plain yet delicious. And they have garlic fries. Served hot, and delicious. Oh and double score, milkshakes too. If I was a True Blood vampire, instead of wasting my time on Sookie(what did everyone see in her anyway? Not only was she unattractive with her David Letterman gapped teeth but she was whiny, yet she had a werewolf and several vampires in love with her? That’s why it’s fantasy folks.) I would spend my time eating the burgers here.
