I love to bring my kids here to play on Sunday’s after breakfast but today was a disappointment. It was soooo DIRTY! There was empty takeout containers, glass shards, straws, plastic bags etc all over the place. I went to the Rec center and grabbed their broom and dustpan to clean up! There are so many people in the Chinese community that use this park; we should try to keep it CLEAN for everyone to use. I would love to see a change next time because this is the worst it ever been.

This playground structure was originally built years ago by the Wa Sung Service Club in Oakland Chinatown. It was built to resemble a Chinese junk. Kids loved it. However, as the years went by, the play structure began to get old and standards changed and the structure was deemed unsafe. The Club raised funds with the City and rebuilt the junk with modern building materials and a kid-friendly design. Kids love it. There are professionally designed and written history panels around and inside the junk boat that talk about the history of the junk boat and Oakland Chinatown. If you’re ever in the area, you should stop by and read the history boards, especially if you have kids who want to play on the junk boat. Street parking only.
