Just north of Oberlin, Ohio, Johnny’s Carry Out offers the unsuspecting world an incredible selection of wine, liquor, domestic craft and imported beers, and other fermented wonders behind its less-than-demonstrative moniker and quasi-dive external appearance. Don’t let exterior looks or the name fool you… this place is legit, and in this area of Ohio, it’s a beautiful rarity. I’m not really a wine or liquor guy, so I wasn’t hunting for either of these when I went to Johnny’s with a friend. However, even I had to be impressed by the row upon row of varying selections that they have in both of these categories. It’s within the world of imported beers that Johnny’s shines for me, however, having a surprising offering of both shelved and cooler-cold Belgian and Trappist ales(among their veritable litany of available beers). I’ve seen Saison Dupont, Piraat, Unibroue, Chimay, Rochefort, St. Bernardous, Bell’s, Three Floyds, Great Lakes, Stone, Victory, Founder’s, Weltenburger, Aventinus, Baltika, Ayinger, Spaten, Black Sheep, Ale Mary, La Trappe, Orval, Caracolet, Gulden Drakk, Cantillon, Lindeman’s, Corsendonk, Delirium, Avery, Weyerbacher, Stoudt’s, AleSmith, Rogue, Sierra Nevada, Dogfish Head, Ommegang, Saranac, Goose Island, Buckeye Brewing Company, Gouden Carolus, and Chouffe all represented at Johnny’s, along with your normal wide range of American domestics. Seriously. Go check this place out already.
