The Crazy Cucumber, Ocala, Florida — — yesterday my husband and I went to eat at The Crazy Cucumber at about 3:30 in the afternoon. The place was empty except for this one family that had two small children one of which was a screamer. The sound was annoying so we finished our drinks which was only one beer and soda and left. The waitress apologized but the manager who was there never said anything as we walked out. Also why did it take over 10 min. to get a beer when there was no one seated at the bar and other than us there one only 2 tables? When The Crazy Cucumber first opened they were great and we loved going there. But over the last year the service, quality of food and general atmosphere has gone done hill. If you want to go thirsty and have your tinnitus

All the plates were empty when we left. Schnitzel & special ghoulosh. Petra was a great hostess. If you’re looking for a place with great German food-look no further.

I ordered the potato pancakes for an appetizer, and curry wurst for my main. I also had black forest cake for desert. The potato pancakes were really good, and the curry wurst was just as good as I remembered from Hamburg, Germany. The only thing is that my favorite way of serving is with the sausage in one piece and not cut into chunks. In restaurants in Hamburg curry wurst served as one piece of sausage. In the little kiosks like at the train station, it is served cut into pieces. Oh well. The also had pretzels that were really good as well. The black forest cake was also good. The server was very attentive and friendly. The only problem was the rather noisy lounge lizard who was setting up some kind of PA system for some unknown reason. He was rather loud, and bothersome to the point that it was hard to talk. Also the restaurant was pretty warm as well so that we did not stick around much after desert to talk. The Pork Schnitzel my date had was really good. We will be back, and maybe with luck, the lounge lizard wont be.

Good food but a bit pricey. They charge extra 50 cents for extra roll and entries ate between 16 bucks and up for schnitzel dishes. While its fresh made food its still priced a bit high. you can get quality seafood at those prices.

Reviews indicated good food so we gave it a try. Apparently new management took over Jan 1st and it was amazing! Great food, Saturday night live German music and a nice family environment. Mom is hostess/server, daughter is chef. We didn’t have reservations but hostess found a nice booth for us on a very busy night. Food was prepared and served wonderfully. Definitely on our ‘return to’ list when we are near Ocala.

Well what can I say? Everything that is good and German can be found here! It is definitely a little gem of a local place. There is nothing really special about the interior. It is nice, a little dated but very pleasant. There is German music in the background and a large screen and smaller tv doing a Germany slideshow. THEFOOD! It was PERFECT! Perfect potato pancakes, perfect pork weiner schnitzel, perfect spaetzel!!! The weiner schnitzel was crispy outside and tender and juicy outside. Not too much gravy on the spaetzel and it was fresh. And that doesn’t even tell you about the ladies serving. They were characters. The best kind! We didn’t get beers but they have a good variety and serve it in big glass steins. Make sure to stop here!

We were in the Ocala area and as it was coming up on dinner time we did a Unilocal search. The Schnitzel Factory struck a nerve with us. We have tried German restaurants before and many times have been disappointed. Not this time. We were very pleased with the food. We had the Spaggel(asparagus) Schnitzel with a hollandaise sauce. Out of this world delicious! Paired with a wheat beer, our meal left a lasting memory! Had the mascapone cake for dessert. Again excellent. Our server Petra was a delight! We will be back!

The service was very personable and the restaurant clean and inviting. The meals we had were of a good size and had great flavor. With that said, I had the pork Schnitzel with the asparagus & hollandaise sauce, my daughter had the Schnitzel w/mushroom sauce and my friend had the schnitzel w/green pepper and mushroom sauce. The sauces were all great, however the schnitzel(meat) was on the dry/tough side with no flavor of its own. This was my 1at visit and I will try again. Because everything was good.

Wife was out of town so, we dicided to give the place another try.(Wife won’t darken the door). We arrived on a Thursday at 7:30, and they were closing! I would hate to drive from anywhere and find that the staff were tired and left. Been there a couple of dozen times over the last few years, and it has never been much. The schnitzel is well done, a bit tough, and light on flavor. I thought that this was authentic until I had it elsewhere. Beer was warm, and the stupid video was tiring. the salad was decent. On balance, skip this place.

I was stationed in Germany in the 80’s and loved the food. Whenever I get the chance I try a German restaurant and this one is not one of my favorites. The décor did not give you that authentic German feeling. The waitress gave us hot bread, which was pretty good. We asked her to explain the menu to our son and she just read a couple of items to him, not telling him what they were. When I ordered chicken jagerschnitzel, she kept telling me that chicken was not real schnitzel, even though it is listed on the menu that way. I asked her if there was a problem with me ordering it and she said” the cook doesn’t like cooking chicken, but she’ll cook it for you good”. WTH? The food arrived pretty fast. The spaetzle was a long noodle, different what I am used. All of the schnitzel meat was over cooked, tasted burned. My wife ordered a glass of wine, it was room temperature. We ordered an Apple strudel and it came warm with whipped cream on it. It was more of an Apple burrito, very doughy. To top this evening off, there were two guys playing polka music 5 feet away from us. It was so loud, we were never able to talk to each other the entire dinner. The total Bill was $ 78.00. Will not be back.

Great service, good food and German Beer. Spetzela needs some work but, otherwise a nice respite from the normal Ocala fair.

The food was fantastic. The atmosphere was a little dated and the waitress seemed somewhat gruff, but the food more than enough made up for it. This place has authentic German cuisine at a very reasonable price. An added bonus is that the portions aren’t too big, in a good way.

We gave this place a try after all the Unilocal reviews. The décor is appropriately festive for the only German restaurant for miles, but the place seemed a little tired. With electronic polka music blaring, the restaurant was less than half full, but our waitress was only half engaged during our interactions. It was your typical German fare, but I thought the prices were exorbitant for the quality and freshness of the ingredients. At $ 17 a plate, it better be amazing, but I don’t think we’ll be coming back; I’ve definitely had better authentic German food. The Jäger schnitzel was oily and heavily breaded. The salad was wilted and the mushrooms in the sauce were not fresh and from a can. Other notes: The 2L Das Boot is available for $ 17. We felt comfortable bringing our young children.

Amazing food and atmosphere. Best German food this side of the pond and 100% authentic from top to bottom. Beer in steins and music videos where everyone is dressed like Springsteen and clapping. Go once and you’ll be hooked.

Great authentic German food! The potatoes in the pancakes were shredded, with onions, and they were not too greasy. The schnitzel was pounded thin, with not too much breading. I prefer my spaetzel without gravy, but otherwise the sides were good. The portions were nicely sized, the beers were huge, and the service was wonderful. We took a piece of black forest cherry cake to go and had it the next day. It was authentic, not too sweet, including the icing. I’ll definitely be back!

I’ve been a regular here for years. The food is pretty good. The atmosphere is ok, not overdone. Bier selection is small, but good choices. Service is good; always the same friendly faces I’ve known over the years.

I just love this place. The food, service as well as prices are good. The food is authentic German cuisine. Being of German heritage I grew up on this stuff. I always return for the rotkraut or purple cabbage. Petra our waitress is a hoot. :-)

I have to give it only 3 stars and I couldnt even tell you why. There is just something about it that ain’t quite right. I was born and raised in Germany, so I’m always looking around for somewhere to get my schnitzel on, but I don’t think this is worth the drive from Orlando again. The staff is friendly and the food is good(not great) and the prices are what you would expect from a specialty food restaurant. However: we were chatting with the lady of the house who told us the very strange story of how she visited the motherland just two weeks ago and cut her vaca short literally because she was homesick for Cracker Barrel. HELLO — you own an operate a german food restaurant, yet you knock german food in front of your guests? that just kinda soured it for me and I didn’t feel warm and fuzzy there anymore. Other then that, the portions aren’t all that big for a spoiled american 3lb plate expectation, but it’s solid food, yummy and very cute atmosphere. Beware if you are allergic to being blasted with OOmpa music and the video that goes along with it. For non-germans, I can say it will be an accurate representation of my people’s food.

Saw this place in the Unilocal app & decided to try it. A pleasant surprise. The German food was good; I had the sauerbraten which is the house specialty. Th red cabbage also hit the spot. We will return.
