Howard Johnson Oceanfront Plaza Hotel

This place would have gotten a much higher rating but for a couple of things. The WI-​FI was extremely slow, which made it very difficult for me to touch base with my business. Next, the bathroom was extremely small… normally I look around and see if it could have been done differently, and this one certainly could have been. Plenty of room for the bathroom to be enlarged. And last but not least, We had a non-​smoking room for a reason… we don’t care to develop lung cancer in the future, but yet, apparently this hotel has a moronic policy that people can smoke on their balcony, which was the case with us and the smoke was blown right into our room and balcony. Otherwise, the room was very nice and well kept, it is a great location right on the boardwalk. Plenty of room except for ij the aforementioned bathroom. And it was well equipped with a fredge, microwave, iron, coffee pot, etc.

For the price it’s a great place. It’s nothing special or super classy, but they are right on the boardwalk, have a nice bar/​restaurant on the first floor with reasonable prices and like I said… ur on the ocean! The rooms aren’t gonna blow u away, but the a/​c was cold and each room has a balcony. They offered a military discount and the staff there is really good!

Good location Brass Balls Saloon is right next door which was nice. Room was clean and had a nice bathroom but it was small. AC worked and the room had a great view.

Place is on point. Staff is friendly and rooms are clean. Will we back soon. Restaurant has pizza that will knock your socks off. Hojo nation!!!

The hotel was fairly well kept. The attendant was sitting in a lazy boy watching tv 4 times I came down to ask questions and get something from their store. After waiting a few min then abruptly having to get her attention she jumped up and was very kind. It was just thoroughly annoying. Are you working or just lounging at home? The AC in my room barely worked, the room got cool but I was still uncomfortable throughout the night… The pillows were not that great. I only complain because it got rave reviews and I paid a decent amount for a sub par stay…

This place could have been awesome. Could have. When we checked in we gave our last name and immediately received a sound of the check-​in lady sucking air through her teeth and saying, «oooooo…ok.» and walking away. It’s not really the reaction you want when you’re checking in to stay the night for a wedding that is beginning in 2 ½ hours.
She comes back to explain that our toilet is non stop running in our room and they were going to fix it. We explain that we needed to get changed into our cocktail attire for the wedding and that if the toilet was still functional that they could just let us use the room and come into fix it after we leave for the wedding ~ 1.5 hours later. Fine. They let us do that, and I thought we were being very reasonable.
Cut to us going upstairs to the room. Our room’s door literally shared the corner with the elevator. I’m not kidding. The elevator was almost buttressed by our door. So that was already not a great sign. We open the door and the room stinks of cleanser (good) and cat pee (bad). It was clear they were trying to cover up something. Then I take my shoes off and realize that the carpet is damp… maybe this toilet running actually ran over??? Ewwww.
We pop the balcony door open to air out the smell. I will note that the balcony was lovely and we had a great view of the ocean. My husband (who takes considerably less time to get ready) spent the afternoon out there. Until our phone rang… it was the front desk and they were wondering if the plumber could come into our room and fix the toilet NOW. Well, my hair is half curled and I’m in the bathroom getting ready — not to mention they already AGREED to allowing us to use the room (that we paid for) to get ready and then they would come in after we left. Well after 3 phone calls of trying to coerce us into leaving the room– but I literally couldn’t because my hair was taking forever since the ocean air was coming into the room because we had to air out the smell of cat pee, we finally told them that they would have to wait (mind you it was only waiting 30 minutes so we can leave for the wedding).
I didn’t appreciate being bullied into leaving the room that we paid for, especially after being accommodating of their issue. This room was run down and nasty and they KNEW it. Had we been staying here longer than one night I would have requested a refund and left the hotel immediately. The ONLY reason this place received 2 stars and not one is because they have a great location and free parking for the hotel guests. Otherwise– there are MANY options on the beach in OCMD and the HOJO while might look more upscale on the outside isn’t worth it.

Ashley checked me in and she was an amazing person. She took care of me and fixed my issues. I even saw her use the same care with people as I was leaving. I enjoyed staying at this hotel.

Well first off, let’s start with the room. The beds were nicely made but the sheets just felt so old and grimy. The pillows had stains all over them, and our room key didn’t work. Secondly the bathroom; the shower kept running out of hot water and it would spray all over the floor, so we had to put down a towel. The pool was nice, but always crowded. I have to say that the only things I liked about this hotel had to be the soaps and the view of the ocean. Next time I’ll stay at the Hilton.

we booked at another hotel and got there to find a lobby that reeked of chlorine and a room that stank of cigarettes. we left and spend 30 mins driving around trying to find an ocean-​view room with a king-​sized bed for one night.

and they found this HoJo for $ 168. I had no idea Hojo was still in business and thought it was a low budget joint.
this hotel was perfect — excellent location, the room was large and refurbished. we had an ‘ocean view’ which was on the side facing the street, and called
to rebook us in an ocean view facing the beach.
the desk clerk could see rooms available but
couldn’t — so the hotel clerk upgraded us at no extra charge-​score!
we were off the main noisy drag of the boardwalk but close enough to walk to everything.
we had a perfect, midweek overnight trip. we would definitely stay here again. the staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly.
after a few frustrating tries, I called
and they hooked us up with this Hojo.

Update: After responding to a customer satisfaction survey and reiterating my issues the manager I spoke to emailed me personally and apologized again. I must have caught her on a bad day the first time because she seems to be a very nice lady. It was a very genuine sounding email apology. I will definitely give these guys another shot.

I have stayed at a lot of Hotels in Ocean City and by far this is the best. Clean rooms, clean bedding, clean bathroom (not sand everywhere as I have fond in many others) and the price is do-​able. The restaurant is also fairly good and a plus. The location is great in the heart of everything. Without a doubt I will be returning again!

I’ve stayed here at the 12^th street location on the boardwalk (there’s another Howard Johnson located on the 24^th St. of the boardwalk). We had an oceanview room (non-​smoking). The place is pretty clean for a hotel on the boardwalk. The beds and sheets are clean which is suppose to be a plus compare to other places I heard about. The bathroom water works =) there is hot water. Overall, I will be back to this place when I book a hotel in OC. Also, there’s a private parking garage right behind the hotel, so you don’t have to walk far or pay for parking which can be a pain. The pool is indoors. The front of the hotel has an Italian restaurant.
