Headed down to Oceanside looking to have a watch battery replaced and some links taken out of my new watch(which happened to be made of wood). Spotted this jeweler and figured we would give it a shot, the place we normally use had moved. Well my wood watch seemed to offend the salesman and my measly business seemed to annoy him. Nice looking jewelry, bad attitudes. No thanks.

First off, I had to check a few times to be sure that I was reading the reviews of the correct Jeweler… I can’t believe the three lukewarm reviews these guys received! Honestly, I can’t account for their experiences but I will remind that for the most part people are more apt to post bad experiences on Unilocal than good ones. That may explain things. I suppose. That being said: I came to Kravit Jewelers by a recommendation from my brother, who also purchased an engagement ring there years back. He became friendly with the owner, Benny, and advised me to check the place out, and so I did.(It wasn’t until recently that my brother reminded me this actually wasn’t my first visit to Kravit Jewelers — when I was in my very early 20’s I bought a diamond cross necklace for my now-fiancé whom I had just met then — funny/small world!) So this was all new to me. I knew exactly nothing about anything ring-related, like most guys out there. Benny and his associate Val both spent several hours on multiple visits educating my fiancé and myself about the process. In addition, they showed us many stones which helped us decide on the perfect one. There was no hard-sale here like I experienced at another jeweler(who«forgot» what my budget was, and showed us $ 30K+ stones… come on…). In fact, the first stone my fiancé liked was an amazing deal. However it was I who actually pushed Benny to go a bit more upscale on the stone. When does that ever happen?! No hard-sale here, not one bit. You are your own man and you get to control the situation — I liked that. The setting Suzanne wanted was one she saw online. She knew exactly what she wanted, as most women do, and it was my Benny’s job to make sure she got that(gulp). Armed with a cell-phone picture and video of the desired setting, we visited Val once again. He went over materials to be used(and again, didn’t up-sell or pretend that Platinum is better or whatever). He basically laid out the pro’s and cons of each metal, more like a geologist would rather than a salesman. Again, a big plus. Within the week, Val had a 3D print of the setting for us to see, along with the actual stone we had chosen to match it up with. Suzanne was able to try on the ring before we even had it — amazing. As the weeks passed, our vacation date had been approaching. I had planned on just going away to Florida for a few days, never thinking that I would be done with the seemingly arduous process of ring-shopping, but now it looked very possible that I would have the ring done on time for our trip. Again, Val pulled through, getting the ring done just a day before the trip. He hit it spot-on the first try, with NOTHING that needed work or fixing. I couldn’t believe it. Instead of having to trek all over creation to find a stone and setting(or deal with Manhattan diamond district and all of it’s annoyances) I was literally going to be done after only having to go check out two places(Kravit for the purchase and a place in Huntington for comparison of what up-selling salespeople can be like). And to top it off, I’d be able to propose on our vacation(after telling Suzanne the ring wouldn’t be ready for another few weeks, because it had to be custom made — pretty believable!) So off we went to sunny Florida, me hiding the perfect ring with the best calm and collectiveness I could muster. I took Suzanne flying in a small plane that I rented at a local Clearwater airport, and at 2500 feet over the sandy shores of Clearwater Beach I became the happiest pilot alive. Because Benny delivered an excellent product for a more than reasonable price — and did it when I needed it — and flawlessly, I was able to see through what has easily become the best and most memorable day of my life. Big thanks to Benny, Val, and the rest of the crew at Kravit Jewelers. You can’t go wrong here. Don’t let the other reviews scare you — I am more than happy with our experience. He really took the pain and uncertainty out of buying a diamond. His stones are GIA certified and he will not let you leave his store without getting an insurance policy for the jewelry(this is very important to have, and I can’t understand why some people cheap out on this).

Let me start off by saying Kravit was recommended to me by a former employee who I trust 100%. That being said BEAWARE!!! I went there to have a ring re-set, so I was assured the ring would be exactly what I asked for, upon speaking with the sales person on the phone I received a VERY nasty comment when I asked questions. This seemed odd to me so I went in to check the new ring they had ordered. Well, it was NOTHING like what I asked for. So a very nice woman took time to fix the problem and assured me that it would be perfect, and a week later it was more then perfect it was AMAZING, or so I thought, the channel setting was crooked, the prongs were not on the diamond right. So they fixed it, I went back a week later and the ring was the wrong size. Then a week later I get the ring, have it on my finger less then 2 days and notice discoloration, they tell me how white gold is plated with rhodium blah blah; yes I know all this I also know in two days a ring doesn’t turn yellow and they tell me oh did you use chemicals? No no I didn’t. They re plate it I get it in the sun the bottom is still yellow. I do this two more times. Since they seemed to be trying their best I gave them the benifit of the doubt and asked them to resize my fiancé wedding band(only half a size down) It was a band that we had gotten. It was incredible thick and a great deal. A week later I Went back to pick up the ring, it was BUTCHERED, I do not even know a strong enough word for what they did to this ring. I was told it would be taken care of they were sorry. A week later I went back, well, it was not fixed it was polished and I was told that the week before we saw an «illusion» since it wasn’t polished. As if we were stupid and couldn’t see it was noticeably thinner, not to mention the inside shape of the ring was different. When we stated it was still not right, well let me tell you, so the BS started. They stated that the hallmark was still there if they ground it down it wouldn’t be there. However, after much talk to get us to accept a ring that was obviously butchered, they stated if we get in touch with the original company and find the Millimeter thickness then they would be able to replace the ring. They made very sure to tell us not to go by weight cause they sized it down. Fact is, I don’t have the Millimeter width I have no real way to prove anything, this is my fault, but I have learned my lesson, please if you go there they do nice work and have some good associates who tryed to make things right. but BEWARE have everything photographed, weighed and measured, be careful and don’t trust anyone but yourself I am currently speaking with the maker to try and get the proof I need, but please protect yourself.

They did a beautiful job of putting the diamond I inherited into the ring that I described to them, and while they did that, they also made me comfortable in part by promising that they weren’t just selling me a ring; they were building a relationship, and they wanted me to come back for my wedding rings, gifts in the future, etc. However, after I proposed(and she said yes), we noticed that one of the channel set stones was clearly discolored compared to the rest of them, so we brought it back to have it fixed. They fixed it… but in the process, they lost another one of the channel set stones, which we realized after the diamond setter was gone for the day. At that point, we refused to keep making the very difficult trip to Oceanside from the city when the diamond setter was in(only in the mornings on Tuesdays and Thursdays) to make repairs that were due entirely to their error. We would have had to wait months to be able to do that, and all the while, she would be wearing an engagement ring that is missing a stone. Ladies, how would you feel about that? When I asked them to remember their promise of a «relationship» and keep our long term business by making our lives just a little easier by putting us in touch with someone in the city to make this one particular repair, which was entirely their fault through not one, but two mistakes, they simply stopped e-mailing me back.
