We have been here for dinners but recommend it for sandwiches and drinks. The bartenders are excellent and provide great service. The cocktails and beer selection are very good. I also love most of their deserts.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a good meal in an old house. The wait staff was terrible and just felt like we were being rushed and he really didn’t care. I ordered the crab cakes and they were average. For being so close the MD you would think they would be better but they weren’t. We started off with the spinach dip and it was very average. I just wouldn’t come back here again for these prices. I have no problem spending a decent amount of money for food but when the food and service both suck, it’s just not good.

We go to Cantwell’s frequently because it is that good. Everyone is friendly and the food is always excellent. The atmosphere is colonial which we love.

Now I know why most people order the simple things like burgers, fries etc. We ordered two fried items — oysters and shrimp as appetizers. Not bad. Then a Cesare salad which consisted of a bunch of croutons with a little lettuce of some type and a junky vinegar and oil mixture. This not a Cesare salad. It is on the menu as a Cesare salad. It is just an average salad. Our waiter never asked if we liked it. We asked him if they had a new«cook«. He proudly said«yes». We understood for sure, As we had already ordered, we awaited the next items. The flat bread was not good. No taste and the toppings and spices not worth the calories. Then came my BBQ beef sandwich. It was shredded beyond recognition… just a pile of mush with a terrible vinegar and sugar mixture to complete the presentation. To be fair the beer, bottled was fine. Service took over two hours, very slow, indeed. The food is expensive but not good. The menu is very limited and a group of items that do not come together well. The cook needs more training for sure. We will not be back.

Food was great and family time wonderful However, staff was off their game. Restaurant Messed up seating for thanksgiving dinner. Disabled person in party and They had to go upstairs using staff elevator because receptionist didn’t get the arrangements documented correctly when we made reservations. Very inconvenient. Reception could have worked something out just wouldn’t bend on this subject. All this made it difficult starting the evening out like this. Lack of support in staff, even though they said they would help.

We really like Cantwell’s. The atmosphere and menu are great. Our food has always been very good there. Take advantage of their specials, which are very appealing. I would love to go everyday of the week to try them. On one occasion we each had a sandwich, Chicken salad(with lettuce) on marble rye, and the breakfast burger(no lettuce or tomato) each subbing the fries for a salad. The chicken salad(cheaper of the two) came with a larger salad and a pickle while the burger, a small salad and no pickle. I tried to find reasons why this might’ve been on purpose. This was confusing but didn’t affect our time. I will say, the service has continually stood out as being slow. Overall we like the place, great for the random meal, or special occasion.

Got hungry on our way to OCMD and wanted something other than a chain. Cute tavern restaurant in the tiny town of Odessa. The décor is lovely, very historical right down to the seating. We were in shorts so we opted for the casual bar area rather than the fancier dining room. We learned there is also an outdoor patio and bar area, even more relaxed. A number of craft beers on tap for him, I ordered a Bloody Mary with the house vegetable infused vodka. Very good. Josh the bartender was so engaging and conversational that the time flew by. There was a minor issue with our food – watermelon and cucumber salad for me(A daily special. Delicious, unique and refreshing.) and blackened salmon sandwich for him – but the manager took it upon himself to remedy it before we said a word! Atmosphere, customer service, staff and food get 5 stars. I gave an overall 4 stars because the menu is somewhat limited and prices seemed a tad high, however a portion of each check supports the local historical society, so we felt good about that.

We stopped through Odessa on our way to Bethany Beach this year and this spot ranked pretty high. We had no trouble finding it and arrived shortly after they opened on a Wednesday. The waitstaff who greeted us were relatively pleasant, but nothing extraordinary; until we met our waiter, Brandon, who was phenomenal. He was extremely pleasant, gave us enough space and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived to the time we left. He definitely stood out from the rest of the staff. My man and I had cheeseburgers(delicious) and our kiddos had a cheeseburger and a grilled cheese sandwich. Kids’ menus are usually so disappointing at restaurants, but this spot had high quality beef and nice portions, not dishes that seemed like an afterthought more than anything else. All in all we had an overwhelming positive experience at the tavern and would certainly add this to the route on our way through town in the future.

A great cozy Tavern! Every time we’ve gone the food is delicious & fresh. They use food from local farms & it’s one of the best little historical eateries in the MOT.

Amazing food! We’ve eaten here about seven times and have never been disappointed in the food. Location is a historic building and very pretty. Not romantic if that’s what you’re looking for. Good service too.

We frequent Cantwell’s Tavern often — mostly for brunch. Their brunch ROCKS. In addition to the bloody mary bar & signature Cantwell’s Mimosa, we love their omelets, sandwiches, home fries and salmon dip! The dishes at Cantwell’s have improved since they first opened and we enjoy their burgers, flatbreads and oysters.

Very nice atmosphere. We ate outside under a red umbrella. Brunch on Sunday was a nice selection of off the menu breakfast and lunch items. I had the quiche. It was not great just ok. The deserts are all homemade and looked good ! I would go back again . The staff was friendly.
