Wow! Everything about the food at Pollos Asados Rio Grande is spectacular! This place makes some of the best(if not the best) chicken that I have ever had. My girlfriend and I were in Midland for the holidays. I grew up in Midland, and she is from California, so I decided to take her on a mini road trip to the Monahans Sandhills. After a morning of sand sledding, we decided to stop in Odessa for lunch. This restaurant was highly rated on Unilocal and we both wanted Mexican food, so we opted to check it out. Over her past three trips to Midland, I tried several times to get my girlfriend to see the light and realize that Mexican food in Texas is better than California Mexican food, but had been previously unsuccessful. After we ate at this place though, I think I finally changed her mind. We ordered: Chicken quesadilla: This was one of the best quesadillas that I’ve ever had. The chicken was incredibly flavorful and tender with a robust and spicy sauce. The cheese was gooey and the tortilla was crispy. Each bite was made even better by dipping it in sour cream and the green sauce(more on this later). Half chicken meal: The chicken was juicy, expertly seasoned, and had the perfect amount of charring on the outside. The grilled onions that accompanied it were really tasty as well. The chicken also came with beans, rice, and tortillas, so you could make your own tacos. That green sauce: As good as both dishes were, they were made even better by the amazing, spicy, creamy green sauce that came with the meals. Out of all of the salsas and hot sauces that I have tried, this green sauce is easily my favorite. If they bottled this, I would order a case of it. In case all of that was not enough to convince you to check this place out, they have really good horchata as well. If you have not already tried Pollo Asados Rio Grande, you should stop what you are doing immediately and go get some of their amazing chicken.

The whole chicken is excellent! Get it on the spicy side, trust me. Also recommend the tacos. Authentic street style tacos. This spot is a gem.

This chicken has excellent flavor and a medium level of spiciness. I do wish the skin was crispy, but that just might not be their style of cooking chicken. The green sauce is to die for — smooth, creamy, and clearly made with roasted green chilis. It had a very unique flavor, not your typical Mexican pollo green sauce. An unexpected highlight of the meal was the charred onion that came with the whole chicken. It was excellent dipped in the green sauce! It’s very cheap too — $ 26 fed three hungry adults. The whole chicken came with corn or flour tortillas, beans, and rice. We also got the chicken quesadilla which was delicious despite tasting more like Italian food than Mexican. The flour tortillas are the perfect balance of soft, crispy, buttery, and chewy. There is only one small table inside and most of their business is drive-through so I’d recommend taking it to go especially because it’s in a bit of a grim neighborhood(we got asked for cash twice in the parking lot during our 20 minute trip). Regardless of the inconvenient aspect of this place as a road trip stop(have to eat in the car) I’ll definitely be stopping through on my next trip through Texas! Que rico!

I really like this place. The whole chicken is very flavorful and not too greasy and the deal is even better when you order the Tuesday special on Tuesdays. I personally don’t like their other items as much but my husband does. I also don’t like how stingy they are with the amount of «green salsa» they give you for a whole chicken order and charge you $ 1 for 3 small extra salsa. At times there are long lines at the drive up window but if you call your order ahead and get out of your car and pick it up inside it is much faster.

This is some of the best chicken I’ve ever had. Weather it’s the Pollo, the Tacos, carne asada or the ribs they’re always on point. Even if the line is long they get your order quick. Its a little divey but the food is delicious which is why o was going to give this place 4 stars. Drive thrus are a big thing is Texas so in that regard I gave it five stars. Este es un Lugar verdaderamente chingon! If they had a place to sit and enjoy the comida estuviera mas chingon!

The chicken in Salsa was awesome! Had a good kick to it:) The establishment was small, but busy. I am glad we stopped by. We had been on the road for 14 hours and we all wanted something that wasn’t fast food. Totally worth the stop:-) updated

Delicious chicken! Great flavor and grilled to perfection! Juicy, smoky flavor! Comes with a grilled onion as well. Great charro beans, they sell mexican drinks, and american. The pollo comes with warm tortillas, rice, beans and salsa. Definitely worth a try we come here all the time, I like it better then the pollo loco in Ojinaga. They sell ribs, tacos, and a few other things as well but I haven’t tried it yet.

I’ve eaten in a lot of places claiming to be 5 stars that were actually not 5 stars and maybe a 2 – 3! I would have never have eaten at this place had I not been with a friend of mine. It is mostly a drive through with inside dining for maybe 3 – 4 in very tight quarters! This looks like a good place for a drive by shooting, But the food is amazing with mouth watering flavor! Def worth dodging a bullet!

During yet another conversation about the lack of good food in this area, our coworker from San Diego recommended this place! You can kind of tell from the sketchiness of the outside that this place is good. Only gripe? Long wait. Call ahead and order but you may wanna brush up on your Spanish… cuz only some of the staff speaks limited English and the entire menu is in Spanish … Just resort to pointing at pictures like we do. Order the carne asada potato and the carne asada taco plate with lots of the green sauce. The potato is hella buttery, the carne asada meat Is yummy! Oh and for namesake the chicken is great too!!! I took a star off because just like everything else here its actually a drive thru place and there is no place to really sit(or park for that matter) and eat except for one little table inside. Plus honestly you wanna savor this food at home. Just a warning– the potato is so buttery, the last Time we ordered it, the whole thing soaked thru the bottom of the brown bag and the potato fell on our car floor. That was a sad day. Lol.
