Yummy, gooey melt-in-your-mouth goodness! Building has a funky vintage vibe, with fab neon signs. I knew the instant I saw that cool building that I’d love the doughnuts. I was right! Have cash with you, since they don’t accept credit cards. If you want the ultimate in laziness, you can even stay in your car! They have a drive through window.

The line of cars was wrapped around the building and parking was scarce even with 45 mph wind gusts and drizzle. This was already a good sign. Southern-Maid makes donuts the old-school way, and this results in doughy melt-in-your-mouth glazed goodness. Southern-Maid is cash only, and the ladies working the front have amounts memorized and move people out quickly. A dozen of glazed are only $ 6, and a dozen of filled $ 9, and believe me this is the gold standard of donuts nothing else can compare.

The original location. Look for the ‘hot donuts now” sign to see if it’s lit. That’s the time to stop. You can rave all you want about Krispy Kremes but they don’t match up to this local landmark. Even a political candidate that had traveled all over this huge state told me that the best donuts in Texas were at Southern Maid in Odessa. I agree.
