The epitome of bike dicks. Save yourself the hassle of sexist and rude by going to a different shop

I’m a fairly smart guy. But the brake system on the El Cheapo Wally World bike we bought for our wee little one got the best of me, I turned to Bingham. No snobbery that I didn’t buy a $ 300 bike for the peewee and they made time to fix it immediately while my little guy watched. Oh, and he was completely uncomfortable taking the $ 10 minimum shop fee for services. Next time I need a bike tune up or a $ 10,000 road machine, this is where I am going.

Binghams is a name that has been around in Utah a long time, for that reason I am always trying to give them another chance. Until this Saturday. I went in and asked to purchase a Presta valve tool. The employee I spoke with was a very rude, very snotty young man. He told me said tool did not exist. He was holding that tool at the time. And was confident it did not exist. I pointed that out and he just shrugged and went back to ignoring customers. So I grabbed some Tire Sealant. went around to the main counter and waited a very long time for Jay to decide he felt like ringing me out. he promptly told me this brand of tire sealant can not be used in tubes(it says NOTUBES on the bottle) I politely pointed out the big red words that were printed on the bottle that said it could be used in tubes. I then let him know I understood the drawbacks of the sealant. he became very dismissive and rushed me out the door. because of all this I was reasonably upset. so I came back the next day and spoke with the«Manager» Dane. He was insanely rude and basically kept making up excuses and grasping at straws and telling me that they have some happy customers, so the upset ones don’t matter. He told me I shouldn’t shop there anymore. that I was clearly not good enough to shop in his store. Yeah, well. piss off dude.

Holy moly, customer service is not these guys forte. I’m not an expert on bicycles by any means, so I typically need a lot of advice and help from bike shop. These guys don’t seem to have decent knowledge on some pretty basic stuff. On top of that, they treat me pretty rudely each time I’ve been in, trying to send me out the door as quickly as possible. Well, if they’re going to be rude to people who are trying to buy things, I can take my business elsewhere.

I called the shop in advance to explain exactly what I needed.(I needed the star nut taken out of my fork) They staff member(Dane) said that was no problem and to head down and they could do it immediately. I live in Tremonton and it is about a 45 minute drive. I get down there and I speak to Dane and he takes my fork upstairs and comes back 30 seconds later and says he cant it out because he doesnt have the right tool. I told him that if he had to pound it out it wouldnt hurt my feelings. He then tells me that it would not be that simple and he would have to break all of the«fingers» that keep it from moving. He said this would take about 30 minutes and I could either come back that day or tomorrow. To his credit he was apologetic but I was certainly not going to drive back there the next day so I told him I was going to take it to a bike shop closer to home(it was sunday and the only shop open relatively close was Bingham’s). I got home and began looking at the star nut, grabbed a hammer and screwdriver and hit it and knocked it loose the first time. 30 seconds!!! I went to AL’s in logan the next day and got a nut put in and they didnt even charge me labor. Bottom line is that Binghams has a really contemporary feel to their shop but they are really lacking in hiring knowledgeable staff. Double check with them about the repair before you let them set up a work order and charge you more money.
