Came in and was promptly seated, but no one was assigned to our table, so we waited for about 12 minutes aimlessly. Not a big deal, but a bad first impression. Ordered an appetizer, but apparently it was not entered in the system so it never never came. Ordered 2 burgers, and these were undercooked and cold, to the point of being disgusting. My best guess is the patties were previously frozen and had not thawed completely, but were cooked as if they had, so the outside looked cooked but the inside was red and cold. Took one bite, returned the food, paid for our beers and left. I took a picture of the burger because I was worried I’d get sick, but thankfully I did not. The manager was a bit rude about the whole situation in the end, but I interpreted his behavior as frustration with his staff. Put simply, this was the single worst dining experience I’ve had in a while. I am sure we had an outlier experience, but the fact that this can happen is a pretty bad sign.

Come see Mike and Melissa here for a great dinner and some fine scotch at fair prices. Try the Hunters Boxty for dinner! It was amazing.

Went into this place recently because I though it looked like a fun place to eat, I went in real quick so I could look at the menu. The bartender handed me a menu to look at, while I was standing at the bar one of the waitress came over and just started staring at me, then she asked to bartender what I was doing, then she asked me if I was going to order anything. I politely told her I just wanted to look over the menu, then she asked me how old I was, I though she was very rude and I just walked out. Honestly there was no way I was going to eat somewhere where the employees are disrespectful to their costumers. Maybe ill go back someday and actually make it to eat the food.

Quite a delicious surprise. A trip back in time with mix of historic furnishings and modern. The food sets this place off. I stayed in attached hotel and had dinner and lunch, red trout platter with roasted root vegetables and curried chicken salad. Both were well prepared with great seasoning and creative touches. Chicken was freshly cooked and still warm. Food better than fancier places in historic district. Had a chocolate cake that was a cut above. Excellent bottled beer selection featuring IPA’s. Very friendly casual atmosphere, but families would be comfortable. Great staff, very pleasant and helpful. Made everyone feel comfortable.

Fantastic food and service. It was better than I could have expected. I got the Shepherd’s Pie, and I added scrambled eggs on top(it was brunch time). It was some of the best food I’ve had in my life. The mashed potatoes were a perfect consistency, the roast beef was tender and delicious, the gravy was the perfect texture and flavor, and the scrambled eggs managed to make the entire dish so much more than the sum of it’s parts The truest test of a restaurant is when they can take a simple dish and make it amazing. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was homey and inviting, and the food is without peer. I will absolutely go back.

One of the best restaurants here in Ogden. You could find different plates here than other restaurants. They serve lamb, which I love so much. Highly recommended.

Went for a birthday celebration and was not disappointed! Meat was tender and the beer was spot on. Great atmosphere and the servers are friendly and keep up with conversation too. You get what you pay for and I can’t wait to bring my guy here for his birthday dinner. Ace in the hole for sure!

My favorites are the lamb ribs and the classic shepherds pie. Mmmmmm!!! The lamb ribs have an amazing BBQ sauce with delicious blue cheese. They compliment each other so well! My only complaint is sometimes the lamb ribs are tiny, and other times they are huge. I hate when they’re small and you don’t get an extra though. They serve a few different variations of shepherds pie, but the traditional is by far my favorite. the meat is always tender, the potatoes are perfect, and it’s that perfect comfort meal that always hits the spot. I’ve also enjoyed the hot tuna sandwich and hot turkey sandwich. Both are sublime! They offer a great selection of beer and the service has always been pretty good. There was a period of time(about a year ago) where the service was so-so and the food wasn’t always fresh(specifically salads), but I think they’ve fixed that problem now. All in all, great atmosphere, yummy food, and a nice addition to Ogden.

The beer was great… The wait staff was really nice… The food was ok, I don’t think it was worth the cost… It also took a really long time for them to prepare the food… Then we ordered desert and that took almost as long.

I love this place. The food is wonderful, especially the Shepherds Pie. The chicken pot pie is also really good. Jamie is a fantastic server as well. Efficient, pleasant, friendly and competent. We come back every chance we get.

Went there for lunch today. Took almost an hour to get our food and food was cold. No attempt by the staff to correct the problem. I love the Layton location but will never visit the Ogden location ever again. Horrible

Fun place, nicely decorated, very good beer, very relaxing atmosphere Conveniently located off the lobby of the Historic Ben Lomond Hotel. Fun layout of furniture & bar. Enjoyed the craft beer recommendations by our waiter. Food was above average. A very relaxing environment. We will be back when traveling on vacation.

Ogden’s MacCool’s is upscale pub fare, with a striving kitchen and very large menu and lots of salad opportunities that I did not try. I had the Gaelic Steak because of the special Idaho beef that I wanted to try. It was delicious. The variety I saw here was well executed for the most part, with opportunities and renditions of greatness. Greatness in food, within«Pub Land» is generally difficult to find. The bar is good with lots of Irish opportunities in whisky and beer both. The service is solid, and the décor is truly well thought out and warm, to the point that you can make this restaurant a romantic date night. It’s in the very heart of Ogden on Washington and 25th in the largest building and hotel of Ogden(the Ben Lomand) so it’s easy to find. I would give it a try. My steak was excellent with a good mushroom sauce. My son had a perfectly cooked piece of Salmon, and he swapped out potatoes, for cole slaw that was freshly made and had a perfectly light dressing. Maybe the best execution was the bread pudding dessert on the special Valentine’s menu that was soft and had a great medley of berry flavors and sauce. The dessert and the MacCool’s special, Perfect Irish Coffee to end it all, makes MacCool’s a RECOMMENDED choice in Ogden for sure.

The old adage of you get what you pay for sadly doesn’t hold true for this historic location. Although the service is fine and the atmosphere is great, the food leaves a lot to be desired. We had two meals tonight the first was the fish and chips. Now I’m trying to not be too overly critical of this traditional British fare since living in the UK for 4 years, but it wasn’t good. The fish was served in small deep fried nuggets, and very mushy inside. The«chips» were actually french fries so soggy you almost needed to eat them with a spoon. My order of mussels was fine and came in a tasty white wine and tomato sauce. The mussels were very small and definitely only enough for an appetizer. By this experience alone I was going to give it two stars, but including the lamb quesadillas I had last visit, I give it a three.

I love a good Irish bar and MacCool’s is as good as it gets in Ogden. They succeed with the traditional Guinness drinks — Black and Tan was on point — and had a couple that were new to me. We need to return to give a verdict on the kitchen but for now, the bar, staff, location, and ambience take the cake.

We had an absolutely horrible experience at MacFools. It was the worst and rudest service ever and because we were a group they added 20% gratuity, so we had no say. They actually charged us for 3 kids meals because a little kid in our party said he wanted 6 pieces of chicken. So instead of consulting with a parent they automatically charged us for 3 meals! I’m from S. Boston, where Irish Pubs are run by Irish expats. This is no Irish pub! It’s a chain where they’ll price gauge you for the taste of salt and fat. Do yourself a favor, stay home, crack a beer and eat any packaged high sodium meal because it won’t be any different from the crappy food you get here. If you stay home at least you won’t have to pay for people to be rude to you.

Closer to $$$ than $$ if you get a beer, appetizer or dessert. MacCools seems like a place to go for corned beef, potatoes and cabbage, but the quantity doesn’t justify the price. Every time I get the corned beef, the quantity seems less and the quality goes down too. Very fatty cuts, and super thin slices like sandwich thin. Leaves me feeling hungry and I won’t be getting it again. And I’m not even a ‘big’ eater. On the flip side, the pot pie is ridiculously huge, can’t be finished in one sitting and near impossible to take home. The shepherds pie had hardly any meat, mostly a mashed potatoes and cheese dish. The Guinness was flat. Not as in it wasn’t carbonated like Bud, but it literally had no head and tasted almost stale, probably an old keg they were trying to finish off. The apple crisp desert was very uninspired, mostly mushy flavorless apples, ice cream had freezer burn from sitting, just not worth the $ 6 – 7 spent. We complained, but it still showed up on the bill. Basically won’t be going back, been there several times and too expensive for mediocre food and not that great of service. If you want much better quality food head to the 11th floor, Restaurant 1107 is about same price but much better dining experience, food, service, and an amazing view.

We went 3÷17÷14 hoping for a great St. Patrick’s Day meal and atmosphere. Big disappointment. The food was bland and the corned beef sparingly rationed in the dishes. We were not allowed to enter the establishment to wait for a table, we had to stand outside to give our names. The manager said it was to control for alcohol. WTF does making customers wait outside at 5 pm when there is room inside have to do with alcohol? Go anywhere else.

I’m at the point where when I walk into an «Irish Pub» I’m always questioning the term before I even sit down. Let’s face it, it’s overdone and the definition has been skewed every which way with harps, shamrocks, kilts and Guinness on tap being the driving forces behind most justifications. However, I was pleased to see MacCool’s is different, in a good way. Yes, the décor is somewhat similar, but the large open space is warm and inviting. Because of the cold weather, you must enter in from the hotel side entrance, keeping the dining and bar area warm. Smart. The bartender was friendly guy who offered to make me a Dark Pumpkin. I’d never heard of it and he explained it was a pint of half pumpkin ale and half Guinness. It sounded interesting, so I gave it a go. While I sat at the bar enjoying my drink, a few young ladies near the end of the bar started playing some Irish music on their fiddles and flute. And I have to say, they were really good! Definitely deserving of a few bills dropped into the violin case. Even though I only had the one drink(having eaten elsewhere earlier), I really enjoyed sitting in the relaxing atmosphere, listening to the music and realizing they deserve their Irish name more than most. Thank you.

This was a nice, relaxing meal. I liked the atmosphere, good music, good drinks, decent food and good service. We stuck around and just hung out for quite a while before heading out. I was tempted to play a few rounds of shuffleboard on their table!
