Great looking store. Great products at a wide range of products. I would love to shop here. So why the 1 star review? The absolute worse employees I’ve encountered at a retail location in a very long time. I’m including Target, etc when I say this. The first employee we encountered was sarcastic and voiced the fact that she didn’t want to be there and didn’t care what time they closed because she was out at 6. The 2nd employee we encountered(possibly a manager or owner as she was teaching another employee stock) was asked a simple question about some coasters we were considering purchasing. The woman did not even look in our direction but instead gave a very short and terse answer and proceeded in what she was doing prior to us approaching, without any offer of further assistance. Unfortunate as at this point I had approximately $ 300 worth of items I was planning on purchasing and because of the extremely poor customer service bought nothing.

Great store, interesting choices, and perfect for selecting a non-tacky souvenir from our trip. I knew there was a second Abacus location in Kennebunkport, but what I didn’t realize is I encountered another along our Southern Maine Coast trip as well in Boothbay Harbor. It’s nice to find a store that seems to really care about the items they present to customers, as well as how they display them and — this will shock you — be polite to customers and offer genuine customer service. I wish I lived in the area and had more reasons to visit — really is a cute place. And this particular location has one very important attribute — parking. This strip of Ogunquit is quite busy… thank goodness they do!

I too found the attitude of the staff so impossibly rude that I decided at the last minute not to make an(expensive) purchase. I would suggest to the woman who«served» me there that if she has total disdain for her customers at least try to hide it

This is a cool little store and maybe a bit upscale but maybe that’s why I like it. Yeah they have signs saying don’t park there but it is Ogunquit, get a life. Lotsa cool items, maybe it is like a museum shop but if you don’t come out of there buying something then you are just cheap. Although I did not shell out $ 300 or so for a vibraphone type of thing, I just played it. Like I would sit around my house playing a vibraphone like Lionel Hampton, no. But if you are looking for cool quirky things this is the place for you.

Abacus, one of the few stores that promised a cool experience, even from the outside. Well, if you discount all the«warning, we will tow you» signs plastered across their lot and entrance. Inside, there were lots of neat trinkets that would have been great if the prices weren’t higher than I’ve ever seen such items. Clocks that looked cool on the outside, but used cheap battery powered plastic works. Jewelry that, while good quality, was double or triple the price it would sell elsewhere. Ultramodern but very unappealing & uncomfortable looking chairs made of skis or smashed up school buses for 3 or 4K. Nothing new or of any real value, and sales staff who remember to smile when they aren’t sneering at you. I’d happily buy similar merchandise from a museum gift shop, but can’t imagine doing so from an upscale tourist spot.

This store is a wonderful little place to browse, right in the middle of town. I have not gone to the other locations yet scattered throughout the state, but this place is always a pleasure to look at all the unique items, much, if not all made by local artisans. We came here on a sleepy day-before-Valentine’s Day to just wander in the area, and it was a highlight for our window shopping. The items range from the somewhat practical(salad tongs that use a cut pattern and treated wood as the spring) to the outright strange(a kaleidoscope for hypochondriacs, filled with a full spectrum of painkillers). The selection of jewelry runs the full gammut, the range of pricing extremely broad and little barriers between the pieces in that regard, pieces such as plated young leaves for earrings to more oddly tame and mundane estate pieces that sunder your bank account. I am not a fan of the furniture here, being more conversation piece than having any possibility of being practical, but the smaller items, I may take a dive for. It is a nice store to browse for ideas, at least, an oasis of fresh ones in an area that seems to barely change over time.
