Bicycles of Ojai

I could not be more pleased. Consciousness, honest, customer-​oriented staff that go the extra mile to accommodate their customers. I’m really into mountain biking and have brought my bikes in for repairs and upgrade to many different bike stores throughout the west. John is by far the most knowledgeable and talented mechanic I have ever known. He solved an 8-​year problem with my Pugsley single speed drive train that no other bike mechanic had been able to figure out. I can finally ride it problem/​frustration free. Such a relief. I’ve stopped doing my own bike maintenance and have instead been taking my whole fleet of bikes in to Bicycles of Ojai for repairs and tune-​ups, and gaining the peace of mind the work will be done right. Also they are very reasonably priced.

Recent visit to Ojai, where wife and I were totally looking to do some biking, we realized I forgot my front bicycle wheel at home (2.5 hours away) when we got to Ojai. We went to Bicycle of Ojai and explained the issue and asked if I can rent a front wheel :-) — would have rented a bike worse came to worse. I have a bike with disk brakes so these wheels aren’t on rental bikes.
the staff at the store (forgot the guys’ name who was so helpful… Ron I think)…went out of his way to find an old bike, took out the wheel, put it on my bike, adjusted the disk brakes (since the brake rotor was slightly thicker), adjusted back brake too. Ensured both tires on my bike and my wife’s bike tires were inflated properly.
here’s a kicker… he just let me borrow the tire… not charge!!! WOW !!! I have never heard of that kind of service and consideration in today’s world and how business runs. He could have easily just said… sorry you have to rent a bike… it was fourth of july weekend…
I’m a fan! Too bad I live 2.5 hours away, otherwise this store would be my bike store.

Staff was nice, helpful, well informed. I did a bike rental and the transaction was smooth and the bike they recommended (fat tire) was a ton of fun.

I love this place! They tuned up my Dahon last week. Ron did a factory quality job tightening up the folding mechanism. He is the Jedi Knight of bicycle repair!

Upon the last leg of my tour from San Francisco to Los Angeles, I was traveling at about 12 mph in a 100+ Ojai weather. It happened that as I shifted to my large chain ring that I heard the worst snap and crunch of metal and plastic, wrapping the chain into the rear cog, twisted and bent. I quickly looked up options for a fix on Unilocal,as I didn’t have the proper tools on tour with me. It was too late for a fix but luckily I had plans to stay the night in Ojai. Next day I had it brought in and within an hour it was like new for about 50 bucks. Not too shabby. Kind people who do great work.

I bought a used bike recently at a garage sale so I decided to pay them a spontaneous visit to get a quote on tune-​ups. One of the owners, Ron, was gracious enough to take a break from his busy schedule to take a quick look at the bike – he tightened a few bolts, greased up the chain and pumped air to the tires for free. He also gave a friendly quote on a full tune-​up, so that’s all set for next week.
For a small city like Ojai that attracts a lot of weekend tourists, it’s reassuring to know that there’s a local bike shop that feels homey and delivers solid reliable service. Thanks, Ron!

Bob and Ron won’t wow you with their salesmanship, but if you’re looking for honest advise and a deep well of knowledge, then this is the bike store for you. I recently moved back to LA and I still bring my bike to them. When I’m descending at 40+ mph, I want to trust the person who works on my bike.

I have been coming to this shop for ten years now. Bob an Ron are two if the nicest people you will ever meet. I have purchased several bicycles over the years and have always felt that they steered me to the right bikes based on my goals, not what they needed to sell. I recently started competing in triathlons. The expertise they provided was invaluable. Bob has forgotten more about bicycles then I will ever know. Between the two of them, we dealt with issues ranging from bike fitment to equipment selection such has helmet, tires/​rimes and bars. Without their support and knowledge, I could not have finished less than three minutes behind the race winner at the Ironman in Boise on the bicycle leg.
But this is not just about racing. When I bought my daughters new bike, they let me leave it there till Christmas, because our daughter would have surly found it in our small condo. My clients and I have stopped by on a number of occasions over the years for minor repairs and flats. Two of them were so impressed that they bought their new bikes at bicycles of Ojai, and they are from Thousand Oaks! My thanks and recommendation goes out to Bicycles of Ojai.

Bob, Ron, and the rest of the Bicycles of Ojai crew are some of the best folks around, and even if you aren’t from the area, it’s worth the drive out to Ojai to pay them a visit.

These guys know bikes. They will work with you on getting an ailing bike back up to speed, and they will gladly sell you a new one. I’ve been a customer for over 10 years. If you’re the type of person who needs to be catered to, this is probably the wrong place. These guys are more like engineers which means they know bikes; salesmanship ain’t their thing. But if you need an obscure part or a custom fix, this is definitely the place for all of Ventura County.

This place rocks! I stopped in with some friends while visiting Ojai to ask about good roads to ride in the area. The guy on duty was very helpful and gave us great suggestions. while I was there I was having problems with my dérailleur and asked if he could help me out fully expecting to pay him for his time. He agreed and adjusted everything which took a few minutes after which he refused to allow me to pay. What a classy dude!
