I needed a place to stay in the Ojo Caliente area this summer and found the Lomita Motel, located right on the main highway in the middle of the tiny town. This town is famous for the high-dollar resort hot spring spa, which is also located in the town. The Lomita Motel is one of those old strip motels that were built all over the country after the highways were built. Most have declined and many are now shut down as folks look for«brand name» motels in larger towns that have pools, cabel TV, and other accoutrements. The owners of the Lomita have brought this old motel back from the brink. They are very nice people and they obviously enjoy running the motel. It is obvious they have put their hearts and souls into making this a nice place to stay. The rooms are all decorated in an individual and personal way and you know that it was all their handiwork. The rooms are comfortable and the beds are decked out in lots of linens, pillows. blankets, etc. The only negative I have to say is that the showers are small and can be a little a difficult to bath in. But, to me that was a minor problem and it did not keep me from returning to stay at the motel more than one night. One thing I really liked about the motel was the outside court yard area. It was shaded by big trees and enclosed by cement wall. There were lots of comfy lawn chairs, flower pots, and even fire places with wood. It was nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy the evening. One big perk about staying at the Lomita is that you can still go over to the Spa and enjoy their restaurants and the hot springs. Another thing to look forward to is that the new owners will be opening up a steak house at the motel. That will offer some welcome dining alternatives in this little town. I wish them the best of luck with the motel and the restaurant.
