OK so I’m something of a tech wiz, but when it comes to the creative arts, my right-brain skills definitely put me on the short bus to school. But today I took my first glassblowing lesson at Blue Sage Studios and it was a blast. Located at 12th and N. Western, Blue Sage is a really cool artist’s studio and shop. They have a lot of beautiful glass art for sale, and you can watch the stuff being made, which is a process I’ve always found fascinating. I had been interested in glass art for awhile, but could never put the time and place together until now. I stopped in on a Saturday and met Andy, who is one of the artists there, and arranged for a class. During my first one-hour class, I learned the basics of the tools, safety(a big deal when your medium is 2000 degrees) and techniques. Andy is an excellent instructor, and I even made a glass flower that actually looks like a flower. Yea Me! Whether you just appreciate the beauty of blown glass, or if you’ve ever had the desire to try it yourself, this is definitely the place. The shop is very nice and well outfitted, and the instruction is top notch. If you’re in the area, check it out!

Blue Sage designs & produces the Christmas ornament for the Fine Arts Institute of Edmond, and they’re just beautiful every year. The blown glass pieces are amazingly reasonably priced, and and the pieces I’ve bought for friends & for my home get consistent compliments. I’ve not yet worked up the nerve to take glass blowing lessons, but it’s on my list! The building in which Blue Sage is located is in an up & coming area on Western, and the building houses several other interesting art venues such as the Istvan Gallery. Really, really nice addition to OKC.
