WHEN you get a bartender’s attention here, tip that fat bastard! seriously, it’s usually pretty busy here on weekends, so I resorted to a colloquialism to get your attention because they remember tippers, and you’ll want some drink service fast beCause it’s a fun place to hang out, watch some dick dancers, many many many diverse dance styles displayed during just one song, see a truck driver in his 50’s in drag for the first time, very Roberta Muldoon-esque…real drag queens, too… cowboys…AND you can carry that refreshing beverage down the hall to The Finishline and watch a platoon of line dancers, play pool, throw darts and other things of this nature… the same ownership… check out which nights have which event and enjoy enjoy enjoy… because if you’re a Unilocaler, you’re most likely NOT going to get your panties in a wad over gay people and whatever letter of the alphabet soup that can be chosen from to id your self here, because you’re cool like that, right? If you’re not cool like that, you can find whatever your phobic little mind has conjured up as the scariest thing that could ever be… and they’ll probably be nice to you… and you can put that phobia to rest… through experience, wink wink… go have some fun, this place has had some notoriety since merle Haggard and Johnny cash were touring, just different crowds. check out the chandelier custom made to suggest oil dripping out of it \‘

Listen, I was born and raised in Oklahoma, and the Copa has always been somewhere I wanted to check out. Finally, on this fateful Tuesday night, I was able to do exactly that. After a few hours at Fassler, my friends announced that we were going to The Finish Line(which they also had to explain to me was NOT the store at the mall) and upon my arrival I realized it was THECOPAAAA. Just to clarify, the Copa is on one side, and the Finish Line is on the other. I’ll start by saying, that as we entered the doors, it smelled like an old roller skating rink… lol…but that’s neither here nor there. We went to the right(the Finish Line side) and it was pretty dead in there. This didn’t come as a surprise since it was a Tuesday night. There’s a typical bar set up in the middle, a few pool tables to the left, and a dance floor to the right of the bar. Music was… interesting. I would say the Finish Line is exactly that… where you go to finish the night. I also ventured over to the Copa side, duh, and saw that was a lot more my style. A large dance floor, much louder and dancier(it’s a word) music… oh and there was some type of a male underwear contest. It was entertaining to say the least. There’s a little gift shop in between the Copa and the Finish Line… which makes sense because there’s a hotel attached. Ha! All in all, I would say the Copa is exactly what I had imagined and heard from others. I definitely want to go back on a Friday or Saturday night to really get the full effect.

entertainment of some sort almost every night. they did have karaōke for awhile but i dont know anymore. that was one of the things i used to go there for but i dont get out there as much anymore because most of my friends are guys who they don’t want to go to a gay club. on holidays and weekends, there tends to be a line out out the door which has turned me off of going in. but ones you do get in, it’s got great music, if you like dancing, there is a pretty big dancefloor for that. also forgot to mention that they have drag shows, i thought they were on wednesdays now but like i said, not been out there in awhile. they also have 2 full-service bars. last i checked, it wasnt open on mondays which was disappointing because my friend and i were looking for a bar to go to on a monday.

Okay — had a friend of the missus come in from out of town for work(he is an actor). His castmates came here on Wednesday and lamented how dead the place was — So we decided to make a late entrance…(say around 12) and the place was PACKED! Like we-cant-find-a-parking-space packed! I could go on about the rumors about the adjoining hotel(hourly rentals??) or the other club that we happened thru(I don’t know if it was actually a club but it shoulda been) The Copa has all of the gay club staples: go-go boys, drag queens, straight-women-who-come-cuz-they-wanna-dance-and-not-be-hit-upon, and of course da Chirren(if you have to ask… use urban dictionary) flashing lights and the like. But the music was jumping(80’s-90’s house/techno), dayglo paint was glowing and the dance floor got packed — They actually had a costume contest that we didn’t stay for(but if Iron Man/Tony Stark didnt win I will eat my hat) Oh… and I got complimented on my dancing by one of the group of professionally dancing castmates that came with us…(he pulled the missus aside. — «your man can DANCE»)… SCORE! If we weren’t so old(and so far from home) we mighta closed the joint down — if you can, please do it for me… This place is not for everyone BUT if you are one of the gay club staple(see the list above) or a house music monster like myself… you may find yourself… At the Copa… a club called Co-pa A gay club thats way north of Aus-tin. At the Copa… the club called Co-pa Hot Music and Dancing are always in fashion At the Co-paaa… you will dance your arseeeee off… And see da Chirrennnn… At the Co-pa… You can be a Showgirl…

The copa is charging for waters now? This may be the best place for dancing but is the dance floor worth $ 1 per cup of water? I bought drinks and if water is that costly build it into the price of the drinks, which are weak at best.

I’m going to free-associate, in this review, because this is what my brain is like after an outing at the Copa: Black light rainbows and tightie-whities. CK One. Your love is my drug. Cher is alive and well. Rupal and Viva Glam. Glam in general. Don’t sit on the couches. Don’t sit at all. I should really come here more often. Seriously, OKC needs more dance clubs but this one is a treasure.

If you want to dance, this is it in OKC. Yes, it’s a gay bar, but don’t all the people love watching cute mostly naked people dancing? Yes, yes we do. The drinks are cheap, the straws are florescent, and the vibe is inclusive. It’s entirely possible I’ve been there with someone who danced so hard, she sprained her ankle … and kept dancing. And no, that person wasn’t Cher, but it could have been. The Copa is so fantastic that Cher could have been there. Dance on.

I LOVE the Copa. This is my all-time favorite club in the entire world. Some of my best memories from my early 20’s are at this place. It’s very disco-disco inside with the colorful lights. I like this place because everyone is welcome — men, women, black, white, yellow, straight, gay, and bi. They have different theme nights, but Tuesday has always been the best. They have sexy body/dance competitions and drag shows, which are always fun to watch and participate in. The music is great, with a mix of top 40 and house. Like I said… I LOVE this place, and I hope to return some day.

Bring your sequins, lungs-of-steel and dancing pants for a night to remember at the Copa and don’t plan on leaving one minute before 1:45 a.m. You will find yourself in distress and longing for more when they play«Hit the Road Jack» as the last song of the night. Plan on seeing the person you least expect because although it is a gay club, it is straight-friendly and you will see an influx of all kinds of people. The dance floor is packed on Saturday nights and the drinks are so strong that you will find yourself dancing by 1am even though you were just telling your friend«you couldn’t pay me to get on the dance floor.» Come early on Saturdays or plan for a long wait in line. Tuesday’s at the Copa are the men’s underwear competition, Thursday’s are the women’s panty competition and both are something that everyone should experience at least once because it is SOMUCHFUN. When you become overwhelmed by all the cigarette smoke, walk over to Gusher’s and grab a bite to eat and a stiff drink in a smoke-free environment.

It’s a fun place to go and shake your booty, but it’s not the classiest gay club I’ve ever been to. The music is usually good, the cage dancers are usually cute, and the Tuesday night underwear contest is certainly amusing, and there’s drag shows, but I don’t remember what nights. The only problem I see is the lack of class. I have on a couple occasions had rent boys offer me their services(the club is in the lobby of a shady motel, for goodness sake), and one time I parked in the parking lot, got out of my car, glanced at the car next to me, so see two guys having sex in the back seat. I’m not saying it’s a bad place. I enjoy going there from time to time when I’m in the mood to get a little rowdy, but if you go, be prepared to encounter some questionable people and behaviors hahahahaha

Don’t have anywhere to wear your red speedo? Want to dance but terrified of people judging you? Want to saturate your skin with sweat, smoke, heavy bass and jello shots? COPA! This is always the last stop on the Saturday tipsy wagon. Or the Tuesday tipsy wagon for that matter. When you can’t think of anything else to do and you just need to dance it out or catch up on your people watching, you go on down to 39th(The Strip) and try to find a place to park(Its on the other side of the Habana Inn). Stumble through all the glittery queens, cowboy swingers, baggy-jeaned hip hop heads with really clean shoes, overly tan lip glossed soccer moms, overly tan lip glossed boys, sporty spice hipster girls and that old man in the corner taking off his shirt and swinging his tie for no apparent reason other than he really loves this Madonna song. No judgment here. You do whatever you want with whomever you want. Yep. Bust out that Running Man you’ve been holding back since 1997. They play really loud, really poppy dance music(the kind you didn’t even know you REALLY wanted to hear) with lots of strobe lights and glow sticks and beer slung by bartenders in tightey-whiteys right up until 1:59am. Then it is mass exodus and street food. The only reason I can’t give them 5 stars is because I am not always drunk enough for all that smoke and sometimes the line is annoyingly, but entertainingly long(see: also depending on level of drunkeness) plus there is always the ever so slight fear of getting stabbed while trying to make it to the taco truck.

The Copa is a gay oasis in a sea of red. Props for that, however, because it is the only one of its kind it’s overcrowded and the average median age is 21. Get trashed before hand, go with a group, get more trashed, and do so once every couple of months. One more thing, men, WATCHOUTFORTHEBATHROOMS. As a matter of fact just go next door to the Finish Line, you’ll be much more comfortable. Don’t give me that homophobia bull shit, I’m as gay as they come, and those restrooms even scare me.

Great dance floor, good sexy energy. Primarily a gay clientele, but very straight friendly.

Okay, I love the Copa and I will give it a fantastic review, but I need to preface it with something… This is a GAYBAR. Yes, it’s a straight-friendly gay bar, but nonetheless it is a gay bar. The first time I went I was with a gay friend who didn’t want to go by himself. I’m a straight woman with a number of very close gay male friends, and am often invited out to the gay clubs with them. I enjoy myself and have made a number of great friends this way. The music if great and, yes, it’s nice to not deal with the«meat market» environment of most clubs. But I can’t stress this enough — if you’re going to these clubs with the ladies [and I presume all these ladies are straight] because you don’t want to deal with straight men, you’re going for the wrong reason. Anyway, it’s a fun place with great bartenders and plenty of room on the dance floor to get your groove on. They need to get a better music rotation, but they still play fun stuff and the Jello shots are yummy. =) The bartender who serves nearest the restrooms is the best!
