We’ve eaten here a few times before but we were very disappointed that this visit did not meet up to our expectations. The chips tasted stale with a hint of burnt flavor. The queso was at room temperature and tasted like it came out of a can. At least the salsa was good. I ordered flautas with refried beans and mexican potatoes. My husband got the quesadillas with refried beans, Mexican rice and Mexican potatoes. The meat in my flautas was flavorless. My husbands rice and refried beans were crunchy and dried out, like they sat under a heat lamp for a long time. The service was like we were an after thought. You can tell this is a family run business because one of the employees had a toddler there that cried nonstop for about 10 mins. I don’t mean to sound insensitive but there is a reason why you typically dont see employees children at restaurants.

I am so disappointed. I really wanted this food to be good. Especially since I love to support small business. I ordered a lot of food since I have a large family. Chicken chimichangas, combo fajitas, guisado rojo and tortilla soup. The portions were large, but there was no seasoning. Also, I’m not sure if this is a regional thing, but this is the second Mexican restaurant that I’ve been to where the chimichangas have cubes of chicken and taste like someone thawed a microwave burrito and fried it. The chicken in the fajitas didn’t even look like real chicken. Maybe pressed chicken… I’m not sure. I just know I won’t be eating there again.

There are very few Mexican restaurants around this area, this is the most authentic. The food has always been good but I prefer more of a Tex-Mex style personally. This is the only real restaurant in Spencer, that’s not BBQ or diner food.
