Nothing quite like this in downtown OKC, I was really happy to have found it. First off the food is always excellent, second if you’re a person who likes to eat something healthy and different it’s really ideal. I can get grilled steak, chicken or slow cooked pork along with plantains, greens, or a really nice apple/jicama slaw for under ten bucks. The daily special usually runs under 9 dollars and includes a drink. The ladies who work there are so nice and welcoming and serve up a fantastic array of Caribbean dishes you’ll be hard pressed to find anywhere else, mofongo, jerk chicken, plantains, mojo pork you name it. Just go there, this place is under appreciated and it’s my favorite place to eat downtown at lunch.

Island options in OKC? YEP! We came in from 2 different locations, Texas and Australia. We had client meetings within a block of the location(which is underground btw) Our first introduction to the Islands’ team, was the people behind the counter walking out to us and actually telling us to try this, try that and giving out free samples! My ‘mate’ from Australia was hooked, I finally got around to eating there today, and got the chicken jerk the cuban version of beans/rice and the kale(greens). I tell you what… the Kale alone could be a salad and it was great! (and I have actually been to Jamaica/Caribbeans and eaten Chicken Jerk) Spice is the variety of life, they do spices on jerk chicken right. If you want Cracker Barrel, don’t come here, as this is real food with real spices from the Islands. If nothing else, the SERVICEIS6+ stars. When you find people who care about what they do, it shows… but when you find people who LOVE what they do… well, you go back again and again and agian. Well Done The Islands!

Shut the front door. Hawaiian food in OKC? Well, sort of. I walked downstairs to the food court off Robinson to find this little jewel of a place next to Suzy’s Greek & Seafood. It was noon-ish and there was no line. Wow! I looked at the menu options and didn’t know what to order. They had a variety of dishes like… Beef(I forget what type) with chimichuri sauce, Hawaiian style chicken and burger(disclaimer, one of the toppings was pineapple so, kind of like a «Hawaiian pizza»), fish tacos, empanadas. So as you can tell by the menu options, it’s an assortment. Not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed. The staff was super friendly and gave me some samples to try though! That helped with the decision making process. I ordered a chicken empanada with kale slaw and plantain chips for aprx $ 7 and some change. The empanada was pretty filling. I really really loved the plantain chips. They were thinly cut and were sprinkled with a yummy seasoning salt. It’s quick and easy. I’d try it again next time I need to buy a lunch.
