Hermitage Golf Course

Absolutely superb course; wish I made more money so I could play here more often :). My work holds a sponsored event here every year, and the course is always in great condition with a friendly staff. Greens are very difficult and a few tight tee shots. Two shorter par 4s bring in some fun and interesting elements as well.

Best golf in Tennessee is the Presidents.

The course was in very good condition, for all the heat we are having this week.
I would recommend this course if you are in or around Nashville.
Just watch your GPS or better yet we used the directions in Unilocal they worked for us.

This is a great course with a great layout. Unfortunately we played when the grass was all dormant and brown. The ball had a tendency to get buried in the grass and was difficult to find. The greens were very fast and difficult to read. Several of us three putted. Pace of play was great and the food was good

Great course! (Presidents) Well cared for. Challenging. Lots of sand and trees. I played early in the day but the greens were very slow. Still, it’s worth a visit.

I’ve played a lot of high end courses around the country & HGC offers two comparable quality & challenging courses that are top notch for the price ($ 30 — 75 depending on time & day). Presidents is more links style. Generals is more traditional wooded course you see in TN. Both course conditions are top notch year round. Some weekdays can be tough getting your ideal tee time as they do a bunch of organization outings. Staff is great throughout their operations. If you eat lunch in the clubhouse go with the tri-​tip sandwich or the pimento cheeseburger, serious yum!

I played the Presidents Reserve today and I have to say that I was surprisingly disappointed. Not in the course as much as the service. Granted, it is early in the year and maybe they aren’t fully staffed, but the staff that they did have seemed to not care about out of town guest. I showed up an hour before my tee time and specifically told the pro shop and the starter that I would like to get off early if I could. While I watched a couple of different groups go off with less than a full foursome, they did nothing to put me in with either group. When my tee time was getting near I returned to the starter and reminded him that I had no idea who I was playing with and needed him to introduce me to the group I was playing with. Needless to say he didn’t and I ended up going out 20 minutes late as a twosome stuck behind a bunch of foursomes. The course itself was nice and in good condition for early in the year.

This Presidents Reserve course is excellent… best public course I’ve ever played! The scenery is worth the price of admission alone, no kids playing on the greens, no un-​sighlty condos built around the course, just you and nature and an excellent well kept course with a very friendly staff… makes for a great day of golf!

On vacation to Nashville, decided to play Hermitage’s President’s Reserve. It is the best public course I have played. Fun and challenging. Very beautiful landscapes and views. Only did not give the 5 stars because not a big fan of Zoysia grass on courses. I like old school bermuda grass.

This was hands down the most beautiful course that I have played. Even thought it is a PGA course, it wasn’t overly challenging either. The fairways were huge, which is great for my erratic drives. The scenery is worth every penny. I saw goats, wild turkeys, and countless birds that I never see in Illinois. The topography just amazing. It was like watching National Geographic channel and that is important when your golf game is as bad as mine. The staff was very friendly and was incredibly accommodating to our group of 16. If you are looking to golf in the Nashville area, then this place is a must.

Played General’s Retreat for the second time — it is a nice an open course with a few challenging holes.

Played both Presidents Reserve and General’s Retreat. Played in the offseason so conditions were not as good as they would have been in the Spring-​Fall. With that said both courses were very playable and outside of new growth were appeasing to the eye.
Both courses can play to decent length with the Reserve backing up to 7200. Along with length, the Reserve has more character than the General but not significant enough to make up for the difference in price.
I can really only describe the General as just a fun course to play. Challenging but still very playable equals a fun time on the golf course. The Reserve is much more difficult and penalizing if you aren’t hitting it straight.
I recommend playing both courses but if money is an issue the General is the better bang for your buck.

I recently played President’s Reserve for the first time in awhile. When I play there it is usually General’s Retreat since it is a few dollars cheaper. However, I was really glad I decided to check out President’s Reserve this time because it was in INCREDIBLE shape. There was one green on the whole course that was in semi-​poor shape. Everything else from the greens, to the fairways, to even the bunkers god-​forbid, were in great shape. All I wanted to do was just roll around in the fairway it was so plush.
I would recommend anyone try this course out. Yes it might not be in the price range for lots of people, but for the price you are getting to play at a top notch course. It has a decent amount of water on the course, the rough is very thick, and many of the bunkers have a nice intimidating lip on them. So if you want a challenging course, then you should look here.
Big thumbs up for the staff at the course. They were nice, helpful, and the groundskeepers must do a great job!
