Thanks for the prompt, Unilocal… «What keeps us coming back?»(since we have 4 check-ins…) WELLL… the area east of Nashville and within a reasonable drive of Mt. Juliet, is lacking. It’s a heaven of fast-food places, and so-so chain restaurants, so trying to find any sort of variety or authentic ethnic options is extremely challenging. With this visit, we have learned that this place is under new ownership. Over-alI, things seem cleaner than before, which is a good thing. We were told their base menu has not changed, but that some new items have been added. Their curry seems the same, and it was tasty. Service was pleasant and quick enough. It seems that they have changed their crab rangoon. They are now extremely thick and seemed even freezer burned, and have succumbed to a common problem of too much sugar. Seems to happen when foods become«Americanized.» Also, their fried rice was gummy from an over-abundance of a sweetened soy sauce. It had one flavor only. Sweet soy sauce. I had a couple bites, and left the majority. The waiter seemed to ignore this fact, and he did not question why not only was not much eaten, and also we declined any 2-go box. HINT: ITWASNOTGOOD. WEDIDNOTLIKEIT. They no longer accept American Express, and yet they bring the bill in an AMEX folio… I was mildly amused, but Mr. H. was not. He suggests that AMEX come and retrieve their binders. :-) We’ve decided to move-on, and seek out other, hopefully better Thai food.

We needed a quick weekday lunch before touring The Hermitage so we pulled into Simply Thai about 3PM. We were one of two tables being served. The lovely lady who waited our table was so accommodating and helpful. We had a pad thai with fried tofu, a green curry with pork and an appetizer platter for three people all served with white rice. The food was DELICIOUS. With Thai places you never know what you will get so I do want to give this place a good rating as it is one I would frequent often if I lived in the area. I’m pretty tough as a reviewer.

For whatever reason Unilocal suppressed my last review. I update my review when the restaurant changes ownership since I continue to eat here regularly. I have no personal interest other than good food. New owners, larger menu, and as good as ever. Unilocal can contact me to verify my status

Update after owner left message– Thank you Teng! I am so happy to know that the server was wrong and that you DO offer great GF meals aside from the curries. If I ever am back in that neck of the woods I will DEFINITELY be back. Thai is my absolute favorite kind of food. The flavor profiles are so pure and fresh. Thanks again Teng, for included those of us who LOVE food but can hardly eat much of it due to dietary restrictions. I was initially disappointed after sitting down with the menu here. I had been told over the phone that I would be able to order Drunken Noodles gluten-free(among a bunch of other things). But when I got there, I was told that I shouldn’t have the Drunken Noodles because it wouldn’t taste the same because the only thing they could add to flavor it would be gf soy sauce because the usual stuff has gluten. This is weird to me because I don’t understand how the other ingredients could contain gluten. Fish sauce, soy sauce and noodles are usually the problems. They have rice noodles and GF soy sauce. It made me wonder if they actually knew what gluten was. She directed me to the curries and said those would be safe — well, if those are safe than their fish sauce has to be safe because it’s used in curry. So WHY couldn’t I have Drunken Noodles? Anyway– I have only ever had yellow curry before but this wasn’t on the menu. I don’t like spicy and I wanted a bright, clean, sweet flavor. So I ordered the green curry, mild. My curry came and it was BEAUTIFUL! It was the prettiest shade of green and if I can figure out how to add a picture, I will! The flavor was divine. The vegetables were crisp and flavorful(my favorite is the basil). I was so sad that we were only staying overnight in a hotel and couldn’t bring my leftovers back with me. The guy at the table behind us ordered fried rice and it came INSIDE A FREAKINGPINEAPPLEHALF. Marry me pineapple fried rice! Now! I would have ordered that if I could! Rating this place was a bit difficult. I feel like with the confusion over which menu items were safe would earn it 3, but the FLAVOR was outstanding and gosh o golly– it’s an Asian place going out of its way at assist us GF-ers which is SO appreciated and SO amazing. How could I punish that? Oh! Also– there’s a little tiny dish of sweet pickled cucumber mix that I’ve gotten along with my curry at some Thai places. I wish every place would do this.

Excellent Thai food. Comfortable seating. Nicely decorated. Much nicer than the neighborhood would suggest.

I love this place. I order from there and pick up at least twice a month. The food is wonderful. Fresh and they will make special dishes for you. When I get an order it is enough for 2 to 3 meals. And it’s in Old Hickory, WHAT!!! Try it you will not be disappointed.

We really enjoyed this place! The food is great and portions are huge, you definitely get your monies worth. We’ve been here multiple times and it’s been great every time. My only complaint is that they could stand to clean the place up a bit. There is a giant very dirty fish tank as soon as you walk in the door. It makes you lose your appetite a bit. Other than that it’s great!

This is a great Thai place for the Hermitage/Old hickory area. DOGET: the curries. Each of them are very good, with my favorite being the mussman curry with chicken, next the green, then panang. The curry portions are large and could feed you for two meals, if you order extra rice. If you’re not a curry fan, their pad thai is also very good. I order a 2 or 3 spice — otherwise it gets too hot for me; but remember you can always add more spice, but you can’t take it away.

when i go to thai/lao restaurants i never really order pad thai because its cliché and rarely do i think its worth ordering at a restaurant but today i ordered calamari pad thai. good amount of calamari and very good tasting pad thai. i got spicy level 4 out of 5 and i didnt think it was too spicy but maybe thats because im laos and we always eat spicy food. all in all, i do recommend!

My family is eaten here several times and the food has always been really good. I didn’t get it 5 stars because it’s a bit too pricey and I always seem to wait a little longer than what is expected given the crowds. But overall, really good food and it’s worth the wait.

We’ve ordered take out from Simply Thai a few times now and have been pretty satisfied. The food is of good quality and the portions are generous. I have not been blown away by it, but given the other options in the area for ethnic food, Simply Thai is a great option in Old Hickory. Their Pad Thai with Chicken is surprisingly tasty with a good acidic bite added to the peanut sauce which gave it more depth than I’m used to from that Thai food standard. Their Spicy Basil dish was better and the basil sauce was spicy and not greasy. Tom Kar soup was fine but a little bland. The spring rolls are nothing to get excited about. The dumplings, on the other hand, were amazing and after trying one I was instantly jealous of my wife’s ordrer. Next time I’m going all-in on dumplings. I have not dined in, but it appears there may be no AC in the dining room. This summer, each visit I made to pick up my food I felt the dining room was a little stuffy. It doesn’t seem to affect the locals much, though, as the restaurant is usually pretty busy. The staff are usually quite friendly and the prices are very reasonable given the quality of the food and the portion size. My neighbors seem to love this place, so that’s saying something as well.

The food is always very good, but lately the service has been horrible and outwardly rude. They have completely forgotten to place my order twice now when I’ve called in for a pick up. As I sit here in the waiting area I am looking around observing everyone being neglected by the staff. I’ve witnessed two different tables have to ask for drink refills. And when I just asked the guy behind the counter about my order he reacted with so much attitude and was just flat out rude. I will not be ordering from here ever again. I would advise to go elsewhere, unless you like to be forgotten.

I was really disappointed in my service today. I come here very often to eat. I dined in and waited 45 minutes for my dish. In the mean time, no one checked on me or refilled my drink. Literally the servers seemed to dance around me and attend everyone else. I was pretty shocked. I finally decided to get my food to go which magically appeared when I decided to leave. Hmmmm

After an underwhelming first experience, I gave Simply Thai another shot again this week and am really glad I did. I ordered a pair of lunch entrees, which are $ 7.50 a piece and come with a spring roll. The portions were reasonable for a lunch menu, so I thought it was a decent value. I tried both the pad kra pao(basil) chicken and the red curry, and both were pretty good. I intended to take leftovers home but instead managed to devour both. I guess this is why I am starting to look a bit like the Michelin man. I also need to commend the service. They checked back with me frequently as I sat there, kept my water glass full, and made sure both of my requests(extra spicy, and no zucchini) were done by the kitchen. What would I improve? 1) There was something just a little off with the pad kra pao. It wasn’t bad by any means, but the flavor was different than most Thai places I’ve been to across the country. It was both a little sweeter and missing that usual«punch.» Different recipes have different amounts of sauces like dark soy, light soy, oyster, fish, and so on. 2) Speaking of sauces… I asked for the rack of spices and hot sauces. Theirs was missing prik nam pla(bird chilis in fish sauce), which is pretty much THE ultimate Thai condiment. Overall, these are minor quibbles – although I will actually bump up my star rating if you guys start putting out some prik nam pla! I’ll definitely be back. Simply Thai is a gem for the Old Hickory/Hermitage area.

Craving some Asian food and not wanting to succumb to the dreadful, sketchy but sometimes weirdly delicious Chinese Buffett… The Hubs and I went to Unilocal for help. Simply Thai was the highest rated place around hermitage so we grabbed my purse and headed out. Upon entering, I was relieved to find no weird fishy smell that can accompany some smaller Asian restaurants so, Yay, it was clean inside! We were seated right away and our server was very attentive. Décor was pleasantly nice and inviting. The Hubs ordered the Pad Thai which was delicious and perfectly spiced. I ordered the Broccoli Delight with chicken. My chicken was a little bland but the quality of the jasmine rice and vegetables was top notch and fresh. We will definitely be coming back to trek our way through their tasty menu.

I really like this place. Their food is good for the most part… their entrees. I have a feeling that the appetizers and desserts are not their focus. I had their fried bananas and they had absolutely no flavor suggesting that they were frozen or a few days old or something. As a cali boy, there’s nothing I love more than a freshly cut, wrapped in fresh dough(?), tossed in a fryer, shaped like a finger flicking football fried banana, but this just fell short — tasted like nothing. I’m being hyper critical though as their food(entrees) are fantastic, really, really good, and I can’t wait to go back to try their phở. The Musman, Pad Thai, and Panang… oh my goodness their Panang! Again, being hyper critical, if I were them I would thicken the sauce just a tad, but it is delicious.
