Portland Maine’s «Old Port Festival» 2012 was held on Sunday, June 10th. This annual event, celebrating the beginning of summer was a blast(and, a welcome surprise, we had no idea). Now I know why why our hotel was priced higher on Sunday than Saturday. A large area of the«Old Port» is closed to traffic and the streets are filled with scores of vendors selling mostly handcrafted goods and food of many different cultures. There were four stages spread around for almost, non-stop music with a broad range of styles represented. There are also cool amusement rides for the kids(I had not seen these bungee type affairs). The official party runs from 11 – 6 but I’m guessing that with the thousands(15,000+) attending for some part of the day there’s a lot of after partying. It was real hot & sunny this year and sunscreen, hats and shades were called for. Here is a link to this years festival maybe you can get a heads-up about next year’s(in fact, I’m going to check right now for myself).
