my boyfriend and i stopped here during a little road trip. as soon as we stepped out of the car, we were warmly greeted by some of the staff outside. the same thing happened as soon as we stepped in the door. the restaurant was so cute and more importantly clean. our sandwiches were awesome. we will definitely be back if we’re in town again!

A– for food. B for service and an F for cleanliness. It seems to be par for the area, but it is still no excuse for not having a clean restaurant. Tables dirty, floor dirty, counter dirty… the legs on the tables were coated with grossness. I noticed all this while I watched employees leaning on the counter, doing nothing. This was before noon. It’s a shame, because the place is all new, but just dirty. Mark T. commented: ‘If you think this restaurant is dirty, don’t ever go out to eat. My friend runs this place, and he keeps it very clean.‘ Thank you for your comment, Mark. It was dirty when I was there, sorry I hit a nerve. I will continue to go out to eat, thanks.

Saybrook Soup & Sandwich is the official home of the best sandwich I have ever eaten. The grilled brie, apple, and prosciutto sandwich was heaven in a sandwich, delivering crisp sweet apples and salty prosciutto in contrast to the gooey, delicious brie. As we all know, restaurants often serve a pitiful amount of brie in sandwiches, but not this one! Melty cheese overfloweth the perfectly grilled bread. Hands down, best sandwich. Half a sandwich and soup for about $ 9, freshly toasted garlic bread and amazing spinach aioli on the side with each sandwich order, and free chips with gourmet dips while you wait makes for a new go-to deli!

Great little place to stop in for lunch! I came here after shopping in Old Saybrook; it’s right around the corner from a few large stores. The sandwiches and soups are reasonably priced. I expected a few healthier options on the menu, but I think their selection is good if you know what you’re getting into! I had a turkey sandwich and New England clam chowder. The turkey was fresh carved, in-house and the soup was delicious! The restaurant is very small, so I imagine seating is difficult during busy times. Décor was generally cute though! Somewhat beachy. The restaurant was clean and the employees were friendly. Sandwiches came out quickly. No complaints!

An extremely satisfying soup and sandwich. Both the specials were fantastic: the roast beef sandwich and the chicken and button mushroom bisque. The meat was tender and tasty, with just the right amount of dressing without making the bread soggy. The soup had great flavor and the accompanying garlic bread and spinach aioli made the meal. Simple interior, but perfect for a quick lunch.

This place is alright… if you have no other option for lunch. I came here around 2:45 with my mom for a late lunch after doing some holiday shopping and it was pretty empty. I ordered a bowl of asparagus and potato leek soup(not quite a bowl size if you ask me) and my mom got a turkey sandwich. The soup was $ 5.99 and the sandwich $ 8.99. A bit overpriced if you ask me. I wouldn’t mind the higher prices if the food was good. While my mom said her sandwich was satisfactory, my soup was not. It had zero potato or asparagus in it. It was more of a purée. Not good. Way too pricey. Another(perhaps minor) detail, but to me this was big. There was no soap in the bathroom. To me, that’s just a little scheevy. Especially in a restaurant where everybody is using their hands. Yuck. While I know this place is relatively popular(they have their own catering line too), it’s just a little too pricey and not nearly delish enough to keep me coming back. Pasta Vita is probably a better bet if you’re looking for good soups and salads. On to the next!

Outdoor seating but in a parking lot so not grand. Thankfully food is great and everything is priced quite well. Portions are well above average and fouls are truly worthy so I’d say if local this is a staple and if commuting by on 95 it is worth the drive off the highway.

The food here is awesome! So fresh and great combination of ingredients. It’s the perfect place to pick up lunch when we are in the area. The desserts looks great too, will need to try them! Their soups are seriously some of the best, especially in the fall I recommend anything butternut squash or pumpkin! I’ve found that their weekend hours can be a bit off, we have driven by and during hours that it should be open to find that it’s closed. Other times we have driven by and the place looks closed but in fact was open… That can be confusing. Anyhow, when it is open, it’s def worth the visit!

I would say 4.5 stars, but I’ll be generous. Our chef and beet salads were great, well worth the price. Mac and cheese, while probably VERY caloric, was yummy. My only complaint was they don’t like to provide ice with water. I would love to go again to try their soups.

This place is fantastic. Found it when stopping on a family road trip down from the beach. We came in for lunch and got salads and sandwiches, all of which were very tasty. The ambiance is very cool and modern. Impeccably clean and orderly the ordering experience was very pleasant. The staff is nice and cordial. The prices are a bit high but worth it for the food.

The Mac and cheese is insane. Get it. Their Reuben is also wonderful. The quality of the meat in it makes it one of the best Reuben’s I’ve ever had.

I’m giving this 5 stars purely as a Deli rating. The ambience is young, which I really enjoyed. I ordered the half soup and sandwich. The clam chowder was unique(for my experience), and very good. Full of flavor. The potatoes still had skin falling off. For my sandwich I had the roast beef. The bread was soft even though it was toasted, and they have a horseradish spread that was fantastic. The meat was thinly sliced and tender. Awesome deli!

Great fresh daily made sandwiches. Large variety. Friendly staff. The only negative point is the stressful music outside. Choice something more relaxing guys.

I have only tried their soups. They have a pretty substantial selection and they sell them in cups, bowls, pints and quarts for eat in or takeout. My only issue was/is the slow service. I have had people who were behind me walk out and leave as no one stopped what they were doing to wait on the customers. I will go back as I really liked the soups that I have tried, but I would never go here if I were in a hurry.

Ordered the brisket,. God I love brisket. Got a bunch of brisket fat. Not what I ordered. Was given a roast beef substitute on the house as well as a full refund for the fatty brisket. Well played. Roast beef was great. So was the service. And the beet salad. The End. fin

I had a lovely lunch date with my mother. She is lucky enough to work in my favorite CT town and I met her up last week during her lunch break. Well, we had neither soup nor sandwich, we both had salads! We ordered and shared Rotisserie Chicken Salad and Strawberry Gorgonzola Arugula. Divine! The salads were so filling that you didn’t need to eat anything else. The décor was very cute and the chartreuse green reminded me of a Kate Spade bag. If I lived in OLS, this would be a great place to have a power lunch or girls’ lunch in.
