Absolutely love this restaurant.. we took a cooking class with Lisa and now it is my favorite dish to make for special dinners… 100%recommended

This is an odd place as others mentioned. We walked into a «candy» store area looking for any sign of Moroccan food. No sign of a restaurant anywhere. We then walked into the ice cream section only to ask and find out that they don’t have any food after Labor Day. Hmm… ok.

Thank you thank you thank you Unilocalers. I took your advice and tried this place and it water utterly fantastic. The lamb sandwich was tender and flavorful. The Egyptian wrap might very well be the best sandwich I’ve ever had. I will definitely be back.

Came in for ice cream and the woman at the counter was quite rude. They ran out of vanilla. We asked about peanut butter cup and she explained it «chocolate based with peanut butter» and seemed annoyed. I ordered the pistachio which was decent but white which you typically don’t see. Overall pricey and ice cream was good, but plenty of other places to go in Old Saybrook for ice cream!

This exceeded expectations, especially in a sleepy town like Old Saybrook. My husband had the Moroccan roast lamb on ciabatta, which was excellent. I ordered the spicey Egyptian chicken hibiscus wrap.(Why would I order this in a non-Egyptian restaurant, and when I am not a fan of wraps???) Well, because of the words spicey and Harissa in the description. The first bite was good, the second bite was even better and by the third bite I was in heaven. I whispered to my husband: «She should patent this!!!» So we traded. That’s when I got a few bites of HIS scrumptious roast lamb with caramelized onions, baby bellas, provolone, etc. And it WAS very good. But I got my wrap back. AND, because we are not big eaters, with the generous portions, we both have another lunch. This place is doing something right. I wish I had tried the tagine.

Stopped in with two buddies on the way to the beach for the night and found an amazing little shop with great food. They were busy with ice cream customers so the food was a little slow to come out but it was well worth the wait. I had the apricot chicken wrap which I would order again right now it was so good. My buddy’s both loved their sandwiches too. Cute spot with a lot of people coming and going. I got a fig ice cream to go and it was delicious, refreshing and full of real figs. The food is fresh, creative and very fairly priced, definitely a great find.

I haven’t actually tried their food yet, but no doubt, they have the best ice cream between Providence and New Haven. They have a smaller maker creating flavors.

We came for ice cream and the ice cream was good. Little pricey, 2 scoops 3.99. The place is also a restaurant but we didn’t order anything.

Anything less then 5 stars would be a crime. I read reviews in the past and caught the sign out of the corner of my eye while driving down Main St. on a beautiful Saturday afternoon(5÷30÷15) with my wife. We both decided it was time for some Ice cream. When walking in, it was like stepping back in time about 100 years… old fashion soda fountain, milk shakes, egg creams, old fashion penny candy, house made chocolates, and more. I had the Vanilla w/Choc. chips and Fig ice cream topped w/homemade Caramel sauce, shaved Almonds, and whipped cream… my wife had the Vanilla, Caramel sauce, shaved Almonds, and a crumbled Waffle cone sprinkled on top. It was so damn, I tried to eat it as slow as possible as so I could enjoy the flavors as long as I could. I can’t wait to go back

We found this place last summer when looking for an Ice cream shop and oh did we find a great one! This is one of Ct’s hidden gems for sure. The Moroccan delight ice cream is out of this world, drizzle some kiwi sauce over it and your world will never be the same. I don’t even know what’s in it but I’m hooked! The chocolate sauce is homemade and the chocolate they use is flavorful and rich. The history behind this place is also really cool, from a medicine shoppe to now serving Moroccan food. Gotta try the tagine, for those who like a lot of spices(not hot), flavorful food. And not to mention that the ladies that work there make you feel like you just came over to grandmas for some comfort food and ice cream. Looove this place!

I had a mrouzia lamb wrap turned into a salad with lamb sausage. So delicious. He had a sandwich with fresh mozzarella and chicken, with pesto on a ciabatta. He gobbled it up fast, pretty sure loved it doesn’t even come close. The couple to the side of us got tangines and I must say the 5 veg looked so good I wanted to stay here until hungry again just to try it. The shop area is clean and set up to easily see the offerings. The many teas from Ahmad tea(English) and serendipitea from ny state among the offerings in both loose and bags. The freshly made on premises chocolates and coconut cookies should not be missed. Are you or a friend a fan of almond joy? The owner makes fresh version that will spoil you for life. The ice creams available and Italian style sodas(black currant, blood orange are just a few) are amazing. I had ginger ice cream with raspberry sauce that was like summer in a spoonful. I will be back.

Loved it! Had the spicy apricot chicken wrap and it was simply amazing, the goat cheese, the spinach! Amazing! My friend had the lemon chicken wrap and it was equally awesome, I want to try everything else they have now! The place is cozy, great décor, very nice, staff was great, overall an amazing place, I’m so glad I didn’t miss it!

Wow! The combinations of flavors explode in your mouth. Ever bite is heavenly. They have the best menu. The lemon chicken is my favorite either in a wrap, over spinach or couscous. YUMMY!!!

Totally unique place! It’s a Moroccan café meets candy and ice cream shop. I’m a fan of any place that can be so boldly unique and pull it off. I tried the APRICOTCHICKENWRAP with goat cheese and sautéed spinach. Now, I don’t even like goat cheese. At all! I ordered this based on a friend’s recommendation, and I was so glad that I did. The goat cheese and the sweetness of the apricot are in perfect balance. It’s really an incredible wrap. Although our food didn’t get to the table for an hour(not exaggerating!), the food was so worth the wait. Plus, the owner and our server were very apologetic. Order some tea, hang out, and eat something delicious!

Told Cathy the owner to pick something. She made lamb sausage whole wheat wrap with spinach, raisins, goat cheese and lots of other good stuff. Katherine Hepburn would help herself here. Worth the stop, Recommended by Rob the foodie!

This place was a great little find. Small town feel, classic décor, comfortable and small. To had the lamb wrap and it was amazing. Very flavorful and extremely fresh tasting. I followed it up with some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had, try«Graham Central». Depending upon the time of day/night it could get crowded easily. Definitely recommend this place.

Okay so I came here once so far and the place has left me perplexed. I walked in and was immediately charmed by the décor and casual atmosphere, a few tables and shelving units holding odds and ends including teas and specialty candies, but almost immediately after, I was confused. With no signs or even hints at a direction on where you are supposed to order food, I wandered towards the line of people gathered at the ice cream station. The room was decorated in with neon signs and looked cozy, lots of fun flavors to be had here as far as ice cream goes. But where does the Moroccan cuisine come into play? I spot a menu at the end of the counter, so I grab it and start reading. Lots of delicious choices pulled my attention in multiple directions. But I ultimately settled on the smoked duck sandwich, with goat cheese, spinach and an apricot sauce on a ciabatta bread. We asked about sitting at a table and they were all«reserved», even though it states on here that they didnt take reservations(minor issue, considering they had some tables outside). The woman who took our order wasnt the nicest person to deal with. Working in the food industry for going on 10 years now, I can comprehend when people are flustered and backed up on orders, I get it, you are busy, dont be short with me because of it. I am your only concern at this time, and you are being paid to do this job. Regardless, we took a seat outside and waited for our food. Then we waited some more, and even some more. Half an hour passed by with multiple ice cream buyers passing in and out of the building, each time releasing a delicious breeze past our table filled with the aromas of a meal to come. When the lady finally brought out the food I was ready to bite her hand off. So immediately I dug in, right then, I was hooked! Bite after bite, I couldn’t believe I hadn’t been here before, that I hadn’t tried this yet. One of the most delicious and creative sandwiches I have ever had and it was gone before I knew it. We then brought our plates back inside(not full service outside). There we were again, sitting in line for ice cream, holding our dishes. Once woman was working the kitchen, the other was working the ice cream booth. I locked eyes with the woman in the kitchen a few times who saw I was holding dirty plates. I understand if you can’t take them at the moment, but at least give me a direction of a place to drop them. The woman working the ice cream, grabbed them as fast as she could whilst also dealing with a small line of customers. Within a few minutes we were up and figured we would grab some ice cream to go. The banana, walnut and chocolate chip ice cream was amazing! Pros: Delicious food, cozy atmosphere Cons: Unorganized layout, confusing order system, limited seating, long meal times, unfriendly staff I will most definitely try this place again, the food is the saving grace of this establishment and i hope to have better service next time around

The food is worth the trip(or the wait — as I will mention later). I had the apricot chicken wrap. If I lived anywhere nearby I would be eating that once a week, it was to-die-for. My husband and our family had the Tuscan chicken sandwich and a tuna melt. Each of them would recommend their sandwiches(and did to everyone walking by us at the Old Saybrook Arts and Crafts show). We did wait over a half an hour for our sandwiches(and we were the only ones in there), but honestly, it was worth the wait! Like other reviewers mentioned, we were also given a list of items the couldn’t make that day, but again, there was enough to choose from that it didn’t effect our experience. Tissa’s is situated in the historic James Pharmacy shortly past«the Kate.» The history behind the pharmacy is one that is worth looking into — the woman pharmacist is the first African American(and woman!) pharmacist in CT. The architecture inside and the historic artifacts kept our attention for the entire wait. My suggestions are similar to others: 1. Order in advance or be ready to wait. 2. Order the apricot chicken wrap!

I love everything about this place! From the historical preservation of James Soda Fountain & Pharmacy, to the warm welcome you get from the chef/owner, Cathy and the people who work for her. This place is cozy and intimate, and the food is amazing. You feel like you are over at someone’s house getting a home-cooked meal. Really great. We ordered the Apricot & Chicken Tagine, Lamb with Tomatoes and Dried Fruit Tagine and the Zaatar Chicken. All three dishes were amazing. And the chopped salad we started off with was super fresh and perfectly dressed. They also have a fridge full of interesting pre-packaged drinks including Sabila brand aloe drinks, Honest Tea and boutique sodas. I had the coconut Sabila aloe drink which was great, quenched my thirst(but maybe a bit too filling). Next time I’d like to try the matcha latte drink. We also ended up getting a box of Lokum(Turkish delight) and although I was so full, I got a small cone from the ice cream side. They give a really generous portion, even with the smalls! They also have a selection of sweets in the pharmacy part. We will be ordering take-out from them tonight, so we will get to enjoy this amazing food with the rest of our family!

This is one of my favorite spots when in the OS area. This was a former historic ice cream shop that’s been given new life as a Moroccan eatery, but still offering ice cream. The Moroccan food is fantastic. Everything I’ve had has been super fresh and well prepared. The owner has always helmed the kitchen and seems to have a very high standard of cooking. Everything is made to order. She remembered after only 3 visits how I like my food(spicy!). Very rare that you find this level of attention to detail and quality in a modern restaurant. Service is great and very friendly. While not quite the stand-out the food is, the ice cream is pretty good too. Made locally in Avon. Rockin’ Moroccan is definitely a standout. Very subtle flavors.
