Had a 5 star dinner with amazing chef Scott Cutaneo. The Diver Scallops were incredible and the short rib the best I ever tasted. Can’t wait to go back and try his wonderful pairings, it’s byob also and no table turnovers a truly unique experience. 57 main will be a regular stop for us, they also do private events and parties catered to your needs. Did I mention during the day it’s the Oldwick general store and they gave actually cleaned the place up and redecorated the dinning rooms after decades of neglect by the previous régime. Breakfast lunch and fine dining under one roof !

I really like Oldwick General Store. They have a great and inexpensive variety of foods. My personal favorite is the avocado BLT wrap, which you can even get on a whole wheat tortilla. They don’t go too heavy or light on any ingredients — everything in the sandwich is in perfect proportions. The chicken Caesar wrap is okay… the dressing they use is more vinegary than creamy, which is definitely a healthier choice but is a little too vinegary. The burgers are also great. The people working there are so friendly! I work in the area by myself all day, and it’s nice to take 20 minutes away from work and see smiling faces.

I used to really enjoy this place and a couple years ago thought they had the best subs in the area. This eating establishment unfortunately has taken a turn for the worse lately. I don’t mind paying a lot of money for food as long as I am receiving a quality product. The subs that were once packed with meat and tasted delicious have deteriorated into slabs of bread with with a few tiny slices a deli meat squeezed in between. The store piles extra lettuce on top to try to deceive the customer and make the sub look like it is a normal size, but they are not fooling most perceptive people. The bread to meat ratio is heavily disproportionate. Getting that ratio right is sandwich making 101, come on General Store I thought you were better than that! I guess The General Store would rather make a few extra bucks on their customers rather than give them a quality sub. I gave this place many chances and kept telling myself«I just got a bad one and it will be better next time». After the third try when I ate some pepperoni that had characteristics of not being sealed and stored properly I had enough. I will not be returning to this establishment. It is unfortunate because it has a great location and atmosphere. Please save your money or go on a road trip and find a Jersey Mikes if you want to overpay for a sub. At least there you will be getting a quality product, a good portion of deli meat, and are more likely to interact with a smiling person behind the counter.

While visiting family in NJ My brother-in-law suggested we have lunch here. We had the best lunch ever and would definitely go back again next time we’re there. Everything was freshly made even your sandwiches they sliced everything individually it was wonderful and all their salads your homemade as well.

Friendly like an old fashioned general store with a great food to eat in the cozy café area or to take out. Chili is fantastic! And I can never resist stopping by to pick up a chicken pie when I’m passing by this place. Just heat and serve! Delicious! Have heard they’re serving dinner now as well. Want to try that!

Great dinner with friends last night at 57 Main, food was fantastic from appetizers to main entrees. I elected to have the Pasta purses of cheese and pears as an entrée while two others raved about the Chicken entrée. Chef Scott visited our table a couple of times and engaged in conversation. Very nice to have this gem in Oldwick, looking forward to next visit.

There is an amazing restaurant hidden in The General Store called 57 Main. We have eaten dinner there on six occasions including a birthday celebration which was most memorable. The food is cooked to perfection by Chef Scott Cuttaneo, who owned Le Petit Château in Bernardsville. The service is great! You must try ALL the appetizers! It is a BYOB. We love it so much that we are bringing our friends there tonight! Thank you Scott and Auxie!

My meal last night at 57 Main Restaurant at the Oldwick General Store was nothing short of exceptional and exceeded all expectations. We began with the Maine Crab appetizer which I devoured before remembering to take a picture. It was subtle, clean and fresh with citrus and mint. Our next course the Beggar’s Purse was insanely crazy good. Little pasta purses with pear, ricotta, asiago cheese finished off with a dark butter and sage sauce that made me swoon. Those little bits of toasty sage in butter were amazing. Butter never tasted this good. Next up was the Short Rib with Hanger Steak, mashed potatoes, and a rutabaga crown on top. Every bit of this dish absolutely melts in your mouth leaving the recipient so pleasantly satisfied. I wax poetic but yes it was that good. Ah but all good things must come to an end and we ended our evening with the pecan tart and apple tart with buttery goodness and light flaky pastry. Can’t wait to go back. A true culinary delight, excellent service, lovely ambiance and better than all the others hands down!(Don’t let the website fool you — this is not just a general store and deli)

Well, I used to love this place a few years ago. It has gone down hill tremendously. I enjoy it because of the old town charm and the rustic atmosphere right in the heart of Tewksbury. They have cleaned it up lately, which is a breath of fresh air, nyuck nyuck nyuck. Lately, the sandwiches have much less meat(for the same price of course). If I am going to spend a good buck on a sub, make it worth the money. Please don’t get your sandwich making ideas from Subway. Prices are high, typical of the area. Beware: the breakfast promptly stops at 11am!!! Al, the grill Sergeant, loudly tells you that to your face when all you want is an egg sandwich at 11:01. And if you do get your lonely egg order in before 11, prepare to stand there for a good 20 – 30 minutes waiting for it. Not because they are busy, because they don’t have their act together. Food is boring, and this area demands better quality. Drive to Whitehouse to Jerry’s Brooklyn Grill for a fantastic meal. Lots of potential for this place with the right management and people. Oh, on a good note, the chili is excellent.

Horrible experience — rude people who took my order, waited 25 mins for a grilled chicken sandwich. Made it wrong the first time and was rude about fixing. For 12dollars I would say horrendous in every aspect

I just had lunch at here at Oldwick general store.(Horse Country) What a terrific place. It really takes you back in time. They have great recommendations when you come in. I had a turkey Reuben and my friend had the cheesesteak. All I have to say is both were absolutely delicious. Extremely friendly staff and the Place looks recently renovated. I was advised to come for dinner as it turns into a five-star restaurant and the owner Chef Scott is a national acclaimed chef. The home-baked products look awesome as well. I can’t wait to return and try some other recommendations from the chef. Ask Al for the recommendation of the day. I just went for dinner this past Saturday night. That’s when the restaurant turns into 57 Main. Candlelight dinner, bring your own. I don’t even know where to begin how awesome this food was. I know he’s a nationally acclaimed top 120 chefs in the country, but this was remarkable remarkable food. From the mushroom cappuccino soup which was so insane, to the asiago dumpling appetizers to the flat iron steak tips in some crazy sauce. I have nothing more to say but you got to try this place at night.

I’m a local and have gone to the Oldwick General Store on and off over the past 24 years. The breakfast and lunches are OK and perhaps a bit pricey for what you get considering the fact that there is no table service. The atmosphere is informal and at times noisy but I know a lot of the people who go there so it’s friendly for me. You give the counter your order and your name and they yell your name out when your order is ready for pick-up /payment. You also have to bus your own table when you’re done eating. The real gem at the Oldwick GS is their bakery. Try their pound cakes(OK, it’s $ 10 a loaf but they’re real good) including their marble, pumpkin and banana nut. All are moist and very tasty. Also, their large chocolate cake for $ 30(ouch!) is out of this world. My wife and I brought one to a friend’s house a few days before Xmas. Other invitees brought a cake from Cocoluxe in Peapack. Various other desserts were there too. There were 14 of us in total. In the end, the chocolate cake we brought was about 70% gone. The Cocoluxe cake was 30% gone. Yea, it’s that good. Go to the Oldwick General Store with someone on a Sunday morning. Buy two large coffees and one of their pound cakes. Have a seat and dig in. Enjoy the locals as they come in and out and when you’re done you’ll have leftover pound cake for the rest of that week. It’s the best breakfast deal they have.

The guy who works the counter consistently uses his bare hands to grab cookies and bakery items from the case. This is the same guy who then uses his bare hands to work the register and give cash back. I have been watching him do this for the past year. It is almost like he does it on purpose to tell customers where they can stick it. Seriously, for most cities in the country, how this guy works would result in health code violations. Apparently Oldwick, New Jersey has no health and safety codes that are enforced. It is a shame because the last time I visited I could see that most of the customers were avoiding certain items. This store is losing money/business just because they refuse to do what 99.9% of the stores in America now do. Really quite shocking when you consider the area. Avoid everything this store sells that is not shipped from the manufacturer in retail packaging. Do not buy their sandwiches. Do not buy anything from their bakery case. Disgusting.

Best sandwiches! They are huge! Charming country location. Order the half sub, that is more than enough for one person. The rye bread is to die for!

What a classic, rustic, quaint little store in downtown Oldwick! We were visiting a friend this weekend and stopped by this tried-and-true store to grab lunch before apple picking down the street. The general store has been a family-owned and operated business for decades and still maintains that same charm despite the change in management. The staff are friendly and accommodating. We ended up ordering a few different sandwiches, including a BLT, chicken parm, and a pastrami, all of which were very good. There is also a cute bakery that abuts the kitchen… the snicker doodle cookie was quite good as well!!! Ask for Al if you’re there; he will take good care of you. This is definitely worth stopping by because it is central to the culture of Oldwick.

This place is at a good location with lots of people coming by. It has a home like feel to it and the food taste well. Despite these great qualities there is a serious lack of the basics. The place seriously need to start cleaning. It is unacceptable how gross it is. They need to be better at logistics too: Let people know if they run out of something instead of just not serving the home fries on a plate. Make sure cheeses is added to a omelet when asked. Make sure they have non-empty ketchups at table. Make sure the tables are cleaned. Open a window or door to air out the place. Etc. These aren’t hard things to do. I don’t understand why they aren’t.

So gross… They have so many flies everywhere. Even like trapped under Saran Wrap things. Omg never again. The guy who made the sandwich who was barehanded also touched all money. Not to mention the wonderful fly ribbon things to catch insects hanging from the windows an inch away from our table. See picture. Never again ew. So freaking gross…

The Oldwick General Store is another glaring example of Unilocal having to start offering the option of zero stars. The place was only so so before it was sold in the recent past. The new owners have done nothing to improve the place in terms of quality, cleanliness or friendliness. In fact, they’ve done quite the opposite. This dump is really dirty and run down. No need to ask where the rest rooms are… you can smell them from about 30 feet away. Nice and appetizing, right? They should re-name the place the General Spore because so much bacteria grows there. Their prices are so high and out of line, you’d think they could shrink their margin just a bit to update the dump. I’m not talking gold fixtures in the bathroom; just some basic updates. I can’t imagine how much it costs them to payoff the board of health for allowing them to stay open(speculation only on my part as far as the payoffs go but there is really no other logical explanation). I’m sure they think they bought a place that was going to be a gold mine(maybe it is) because there’s no other spot in a couple of mile radius to get a quick breakfast, coffee, sandwich, etc. So they think they have a monopoly and they’re going to get business by default. And to some degree, they are right. But the place blows. We’ve been there and ordered sandwiches and they have gotten orders wrong and when you tell them it’s wrong the counter staff becomes indignant. Whatever happened to customer service. The customer isn’t always right, but a restaurant should make them feel that way regardless. And when the staff is wrong don’t take it personally. Tewksbury is a small town and it hasn’t taken long for us to realize what a dump the General Store has become. The General Store is generally rotten.
