This was my 2nd visit here in the past couple years. Set out in the country a couple miles from the state highway, the church location is surrounded by farmer’s fields. They have a very nice sanctuary, and a real nice congregation — very warm and friendly. And don’t feel like you have to get all dressed up to attend services here — on the contrary, you will fit in with whatever you wear, as this is a casual dress type congregation. Pastor Jerry Bush is an inspirational preacher, and a great guy overall. During my previous visit on a Sunday morning, I witnessed a couple full-immersion baptisms — a positive sign of a healthy and vibrant congregation. They have a good nursery program for the little ones(23 months and under) and a Wee Worship program for the kids 2 years old thru kindergarten during church services. Speaking of church services, theirs are positive and upbeat. They start out at 09:30am with a ‘meet & greet’ friendship type welcome, then transition into a couple worship songs, followed by a collection of the offerings. Then the children are dismissed to Wee Worship, morning prayers are offered, followed by an inspirational sermon. After the sermon was open communion and then the closing. Sunday School starts immediately following the church service at 10:45am. All in all, my experience during the Sunday morning service was rewarding and uplifting. Their Fellowship Hall can easily accommodate 125 people in a comfortable setting. This congregation is currently supporting annual missions to Guatemala. On a related note: My brother-in-law passed away recently and we attended services at the cemetery. Immediately following the services, on a Saturday afternoon when most people are busy with chores or are enjoying family functions, the ladies at Mt. Gilead hosted a pot-luck type luncheon for our family and friends. From the bottom of my heart, and I know I can speak for all who attended, the ladies there put on a fabulous meal and a warm welcome was enjoyed by all. We never felt rushed, and were allowed to catch up with family and friends. As anyone who has gone through the loss of a loved one knows, the days leading up to the funeral and the days and weeks immediately following the burial are trying times. I can only say that with the support of Christian friends at Mt. Gilead, my sister-in-law will most certainly feel God’s love and be able to carry on with her life. You can certainly guess that I will stop in again when I’m in the area.
