as a very very recently new WA resident, burial grounds is my first favorite coffee shop in oly, 100%. endless drink options – teas, espresso, coffee, sodas – and all are equally enticing. on my second stop there this evening, i asked if there were any coffee-soda hybrid drinks available, and lo and behold, there were several! i went with the team edward – super yummy and worth the giggles incited by the name. the staff is super friendly and personable with awesome suggestions on what to order. the atmosphere itself is way awesome and the late night hours are hands down the best. i can’t wait to go back! 8)

Cool Place to get coffee. Got the Rigor Mortis and it was delicious. Tons of cool drinks for reasonable prices. Plus where else can you get a skull drawn on your coffee.

Burial Grounds is an awesome little coffee shop in town. This was my first time to Olympia and the barista gave me lots of awesome tips on where to get a good meal or drink. I just had a drip coffee but the mug was huge and the coffee kept flowing. Needless to say, I had my fill of some excellent coffee. I forgot to ask where their beans are from unfortunately. It’s got some really nice chairs with different areas to either read and relax or to meet with some friends. I will definitely be stopping in again when I’m back through town.

I love love love this place. It’s dark and fun and cozy, and all of the drinks I’ve had there have been phenomenal; both the coffee and the tea, but keep in mind these drinks are made by serious coffee and tea drinkers and they don’t mess around. The atmosphere reminds me of being a teenager and how much I would have adored having a place like this to hang out at when I was younger, but looks like I’ll be making up for it now. It has gorgeous art, and the feeling is just so delightfully Local.

This place has the best coffee! Open late for those who crave caffeine past 10pm. The staff there are extremely friendly and all around good vibes.

Terrific coffee and atmosphere, but terrible doors. Had a six-shot espresso drink and might not sleep for days. One of the most authentically Olympia places downtown.

Great drinks, fun baristas, and the new location on 5th has lots of space to hang out! My favorite drink is their homemade chai tea, hot and iced. I’m a huge fan of their communal resources — comics, books, games, and even a suspended coffee program for if you’re down on your luck. Very community friendly, best coffee shop in Olympia as far as I’m concerned.

Burial grounds has an excellent selection of fare and a fun environment. They put a lot of effort into this community, host events, and are moving to a new, awesomer space. Plus, they have public computer access which basically nobody does anymore. 5 stars for a place that’s more than a business!

There’s not a lot I can add that hasn’t been said, but I will try. I will admit that for coffee itself, there are a few other places in town I prefer. I drink my joe black and don’t go for froufrou drinks. This place has an amazing menu for those though, if that’s your thing. I love the atmosphere here, the welcoming staff, the music, just the character of this place. It is far and away my favorite study spot, too. One thing that makes this place particularly special to me is knowing they get their teas from the Mad Hat in Tacoma. That place rocks as well, and I love that they have a supportive relationship.

I like the bathroom keys, there are bats on them. I also like the coconut milk latte. the milk isn’t as creamy as I thought, but the espresso is yum.

This is my favorite study spot in Olympia. The atmosphere is fun, very artsy, and the music is always good(punk rock typically). The coffee is astounding, and the baristas are knowledgable. They have a wide variety of specialty drinks(try the grave moss over ice!) and a separate menu for teas and tea lattes(voodoo is divine). I’m a big fan of not only the extensive drink menu but the snacks available as well. The baristas are really attentive to special food needs which I really like, since my diet usually doesn’t allow for dairy. Don’t forget to let them know if you’re a first responder, law enforcement, military, or a student. They give a discount for that!

Love their drinks. unique name and choices. They can be on the sweet side though(I like my coffee old, not sweet), but that is usually only if you order from their signature drinks section. Cool place to chill out and get some work done. Does overwhelmingly smell like armpit though… Mostly from the hipsters that don’t wear deodorant.

Bottom Line — The coffee is delicious, the atmosphere is 15 minutes away from a Dungeons and Dragons game, the specialties are very reasonably priced, but it smells like teen spirit. Super young, super hip, and super angsty. If you’re super pissed at your mom and dad because they«just don’t understand», but you also really want to brood over something well brewed, this is the place for you. No one can talk smack about the coffee. The product that they’re selling is simply amazing. The cross stitched sign requesting you don’t use drugs in their restroom seems amusing albeit necessary. Perhaps it’s just the current crowd on the day we stopped, but the wonderful fragrance of their coffee was masked by the distinct smell of body odor. Don’t let that discourage you from their good drinks, just take it to go…

Really cool spot and really good coffee. Driving through the area after 10pm and the powers of Unilocal lead me to the Burial Grounds… Staff was awesome and full of energy. I went with a cold brew and was pleasantly surprised by the flavor. Plugged into outlet and used their wifi in a comfortable environment. Great spot that I am glad I found.

Cute coffee shop, a little cramped in there. Ordered a cappuccino, which was super strong. I had to dump in more sugar, than I normally prefer. They have specials and discounts on certain days. I liked the skull that came decorated on my cappuccino, felt sad that I had to stir it away with sugar.

The aesthetic appeals to the college set, with loud industrial music and a Goth-décor. The advantages include a desktop with a DSL connection, board games(including chess), a variety of zine and newspaper publications. The disadvantages include music volumes that obviate conversation. The baristas appear to take the goth aesthetic a bit too seriously, having had their sense of humor surgically removed at birth. You might also wish to bring a gas mask, to evade the cloud of cigarette smoke generated by the angst ridden youth by the door. Burial Grounds is hormonal. It’s the perfect vibe for adolescents and those for whom the adolescent hormonal imbalances haven’t quite worn off yet. If you’re already past your Junior-year death poetry phase, you may find it a tad overdone.

Burial Grounds is a perfect small coffee shop to grab a fantastic cup, sit for while and relax or grab and go! Our personal favorites are the Rigor Mortis and Brenda’s Brains. If you’re a fan of mint chocolate, the Grave Moss is also a pretty tasty coffee. I guess you could consider them«dessert coffees,» their sweet and super delicious. We have tried a vegan cookie from here as well and it was very tasty, and they had the same cookie that was not vegan and that tasted just as good. Each barista has been nice and all the coffees have tasted consistent. The design on your coffee is hit or miss. The place itself is cute with gothic type art work on the walls and awesome areas to sit.

Signature coffee drinks named to match a gothic zombie like theme. Not to worry coffee fanatics! Even if you don’t fit into that style or to that themes liking, if you adore coffee none of that will matter because the espresso is smooth and their creative art is worth trying. I applaud them for having a firm ground in no nonsense behavior, loitering without being a customer, AND no use of any drugs!!!
