Last week I happened across a Stream Team event at Port Plaza. They had a microscope set up and wet-mounted slides. «Come and see our Plankton in Action!» That sounded cool! I peered into the microscope and could see plankton moving with tail-like flagellates. There were round green ones as well as box shaped plankton. Stream Team had an identification chart for each type. My turn was cut short by my 5 year old. She spent 40 minutes glued to the microscope and would only give it up so it could be adjusted. She helped prepare more slides for viewing. I had to pry her away when the Stream Team volunteers had to pack up. The volunteers let us know that they will have the Microscope out and ready every Thursday at 2:30 to 3:30. I asked the volunteers which events would be appropriate for a 5 year old. They mentioned Beach Seining(at Priest Point Park) and Marine Creature Mondays(at Boston Harbor Marina). Both are free and registration is required.
