BLESSEDSACRAMENTCATHOLICCHURCH, 30th Street and Curtis Avenue, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays through March 14. Lightly battered fish, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, french fries, baked potatoes, bread and beverages. $ 4 to $ 8. 455‑5200. As fish fries go, this is our current favorite. For years, we would go to many many fish fries each Lent, trying to find the best fried fish or wanting to go at least once to the one that has shrimp. For the past few years, we have only gone to Blessed Sacrament. I would say some years we go every Friday in Lent, this year, we have only made it 1⁄3 of the Fridays thus far. What I like about BS is the convenience factor. Call me lazy, but I don’t want to wait in line. I want someone to bring me pitchers of beer, is this wrong? I don’t think so. The line is usually short, you wait and buy your ticket. There are some particularly charming gentleman who typically work the door. You take your ticket and sit down. People push drink carts around, serving juice and water for free(beer for purchase – either by the glass or pitcher). Someone comes and collects your tickets and brings your plate of steaming hot fish in just moments. THe fish is great, you have a choice of french fries or baked potato and you also get coleslaw(which I have never tried). They have AWESOME onion rings as well! They recently started having Mac and Cheese too. In addition to the beer carts, there are women pushing around dessert carts. Most of the desserts are homemade by the women of the parish. YUMMY! Give Blessed Sacrament a try. A bit less glamourous than some of the other big FFs where you wait in line for several hours, but it has it’s own goodness to it.
