My father was transfered to Bergan from West Point St Fransis hospital on a Friday to consult about dialysis. He was transferred via wheel chair van responsive and hopeful. After arrival to his room at Bergan, a physician came in to talk to my husband and I and stated he was not a candidate due to his age. They then got him settled in a hospital gown in a room, and started him on meds to keep him "pain free" . I found out after insisting they stop snowing him with meds and allow him to eat etc, that they had him on hospice. I was frantically trying to contact my father's physician from West Point with no success.my father was stuck in Bergan the entire weekend with no nutrition or care other than pain meds. He was finally transferred back to West Point, where he never gained responsiveness and passed about a week later. Please stay away from Bergan Mercy! I have another significant report with a family member as well, but I feel what they did to my father is enough reason to keep clear of this system.
