Submitting a correction — Dixie Quicks is NOT closed, it has moved to downtown Council Bluffs to a much larger facility. It’s a fun atmosphere with the same incredible food they have always served! 157 W Broadway Council Bluffs, IA51503 (712) 256‑4140

First of all– this place is not closed. It is located in council bluffs now(157 W. Broadway). I have been going to Dixie Quicks for as long as I can remember. Whether it is the owners, Rene and Rob, the cool, casual, friendly atmosphere on Sunday morning brunches, or the delicious and imaginative food– I can’t quite choose what is my favorite part of this place. I’d have to say a combination of all three. Come in and sit down at a table with strangers and leave with new friends. Take a leap of faith and try something different(oatmeal and ice cream? breakfast quesadilla?) and walk out with a new favorite food. If you’re lucky enough to get Rene out of the kitchen to say hello, you’ll see why this place has been around for years and why there is always a line out the door. If you’re looking to try the brunch, be smart and make a reservation. You never know how busy they will be, because it’s the best!

This location is closed, but the same great owners and food can be found at their new location at 157 W. Broadway in Council Bluffs. I checked it out for brunch today and it was great. The new building is located in a recently renovate old building in a great little area. It is definitely worth the trek(it will probably be a less annoying drive than to the old location for some of us!)

This place is great. I’ve only been once for breakfast but just taking one bite from my French toast with mixed berries made me a fan in a heartbeat. The bread they make their french toast from is huge and thick. The serving size was five big slices of bread and more than enough for one person. The atmosphere is quite charming and their tables are covered with a large sheet of white paper that customers can draw on with the crayons provided at each table. The service was fast and friendly and since they have limited space they advise people to make reservations ahead of time to ensure a table, but my sister and I came in on mid-morning on a Saturday and got a table right away. If you don’t take my word for it, go ahead and order the French toast. I dare you not to like it. It is to. die. for.

This place definitely has charm. From the outside it doesn’t promise much but from the inside paired with friendly staff, you can’t help but like this place already. I have yet to come here for lunch or dinner but the breakfast here is spectacular! The French toast is what I come back for. Combine it with a great cup of coffee and a side of bacon, your morning can’t get off to a more delicious start then this.

The food and service were awesome. My girlfriend and I took a weekend trip from KC to go to the Omaha Zoo. We like many wanted to try this place after watching Guy. Well we were not disappointed. I had the pork loin and my girlfriend had the chicken fried steak. Both were to die for. We also took back to the hotel the strawberry peach tart for desert. We wish we would have got two, one for each, after sharing it back at our hotel. Our server was super nice. He sat down to talk to us and even suggested a couple of other good places to eat on our trip. The other servers were great too. They walked around filling everyone’s drinks. My water glass never went empty. We did some research before we went, unlike some other people who have done a review, and noticed that they asked that you make reservations. We called and told them when we would be there and they had no problem getting us in. I will definitely come back here if I ever make it back to Omaha.

Imagine walking in and being asked if you have a reservation at 1230 at a breakfast place. Told… rudely btw… we have no room… and left to be. Damn you Guy F.

My uncle took me here for brunch on my birthday, giving the place rave reviews. After eating here, I’m really not sure what’s so great about it. First, there is no formal menu. If you ask for one, you’re barked at by whatever rude person happens to be waiting on your table and told to look at their giant chalkboard, which is hard to read depending on where you’re sitting in the restaurant. The food is mediocre at best. Mine was cold and I was basically told«tough luck» by my server. It did not live anywhere near up to my expectations. Sorry to say, but I think one dining experience here was enough for me. I don’t have any desire to go back. Limited menu, rude servers and mediocre food left me longing for something better.

Rene and Rob(and Bruce«Buffy») are three of the most genuine people you will ever meet! Besides being involved in their community they offer a blend of warm hospitality, family, great food, and great service. For brunch the oatmeal and ice cream makes a great appitizer. B&G! OHYA! Dinner you can’t go wrong with pork, steak, chicken or fish OR veggies… Great people. Great food. Great prices. Great place.

I’m glad I got to this before anyone noticed I haven’t written a review yet. I would have got my Unilocaling privileges taken away! I’m not sure why I’m just now reviewing this place, it is one of my most favoritest places to eat in Omaha. I’ve been for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, and whatever you call it when the bars close and you’re hungry for something tasty at 3am… because they occasionally serve at that hour. Have you ever had the dream that you were BFF’s with one of Paula Deans kids and you got to go over there all the time and eat? Imagine you walk in feeling totally welcomed, there’s Paula in the kitchen happy to see you, greeting you with a big ol’ hug and takes you by the hand into a kitchen full of tasty butter soaked treats to hold you off until yr meal is ready… Okay, so maybe that’s just MY dream and I got a carried away… If you can relate or even share this amazing dream with me I feel like going to Dixie Quicks might be the closest thing to reality for you. If you haven’t had this re-occurring dream(I feel sorry for you) but you should visit Dixie Quicks regardless. Their menu always changes but is always DELICIOUS! Their french toast is awesome… I’ve tried many different techniques to try to match the quality of their scrambled eggs at home(I should probably just ask next time their secret), their lunch is fantastic and very affordable, and dinner is just as great. The service is fantastic. I always end up talking to my server way too long and by the end of my visit I want to give everyone a hug on the way out. On one of my visits they sold some desserts for 5 $ and gave all the proceeds to charity. I’m not a dessert person but because this was going to a good cause I decided I would order some and take it home. What I got was a GIANT piece of DELICIOUS chocolate cake with a side of fresh fruit. I’m not sure if they do this often but I not only appreciated the fact 100% of the proceeds went to a good cause but they weren’t stingy on the size of the dessert.(regardless of my lack of a sweet tooth!) Also, the first Saturday of the month are open from Midnight to 4am! They offer three breakfast dishes. You take your pick. Each is $ 10. I love it. They occasionally have art shows too. You can totally come for an art show and stay for dinner! OH! And you provide crayons for you to color on your table cloth(it’s paper) while you wait for your food. Please check out this hidden gem if you have the chance. From what I understand they’re not open Saturdays. You might need to call to confirm they’re open. I’ve occasionally had my heart set on a dinner or lunch at D.Q. only to find they’re closed. Totally worth the trouble though.

Professional service + Cozy atmosphere +(chilequiles + eggs) = Four stars + Waiter named Bunny = Five stars — Diet Coke only served in cans? Come on! = 4.5 stars — Inconveniently located(for me) + street parking = 4 stars.

Am already anticipating my next visit. Had the BEST french toast I’ve ever had — the«sexual chocolate» version(chocolate, choc chips, bananas, walnuts)…it was like heaven. The bread used for the french toast also helped make it amazing. Atmosphere was great, very clean and quaint — had an definite upscale diner feel. The waiter was very chatty, friendly and fantastic. It was an all around great experience! We did try to go for the first time for brunch over Labor Day weekend but once we finally tracked the place down(very hard to spot unless you’re looking for the exact address), but found out they were closed due to vacation. So you might want to call ahead if you live very far away to make sure they’re open in advance!

Dixie Quicks is a fun, quirky restaurant. The host called us by pet names and was extremely chatty(although he talked to all the other tables several times, but never talked to us– maybe we intimidated him). The tablecloths are white paper and there is a jar of crayons to draw with while you wait for your food. I ordered the salmon benedict with the homefries. It was delicious! My friend ordered the breakfast quesidilla, which I also tried and was very impressed. The«tortilla» was more of a crisp crêpe and it was stuffed to the brim with eggs and vegetables. I would definitely go here again and would suggest it to my friends. The reason for not gettng 5 stars: We were there at noon after having been at the zoo for the last 4 hours and we wanted lunch. They didn’t have lunch. Allllll breakfast. The breakfast we did get was wonderful, but a nice sandwhich would have been more what we were looking for…

By far my favorite breakfast joint in Omaha. I have yet to visit for dinner but I hear it’s equally fantastic. My friends and I typically come here for brunch on weekends after an abusive night of drinking. Luckily the staff is always energized and overly friendly enough to accommodate a group of hangovers. Now about the food. It’s fantastic. The daily menu items are written on a chalkboard and there is typically a few new items each time I visit. I can only imagine this means they use fresh ingredients and create a menu based on what’s available(bonus). Dixie Quicks always gives me the impression that my food was prepared carefully with the sole intention of me savoring every bite. Awesome. I recommend the guacamole omelet.

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible!!! Please don’t eat here!!! (jk… just trying to make sure i can still get a table next year. :) Actually, my sentiments are exactly the opposite of what i expressed above. I LOVED everything about DQ! Amazing food, check. Beautiful art gallery, check. Laid-back ambiance, check. Wonderfully friendly service, check. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants not only in Omaha, but all-around favorites, period! The food:(salmon benedict & sex chocolate french toast) were both amazing! The salmon and the eggs on the benedict were perfectly cooked. The hollandaise sauce was down-right orgasmic. It was so good, i was tempted to lick the entire plate! The grits, yum! It was honestly THEBEST salmon benedict i’ve tasted! The french toast was amazing. Wonderfully soft french bread(tasted like brioche), egg soaked throughout and cooked to a perfect yellowy-brown. Topped w/mini-chocolate chips, banana slices, and whipped cream. Served w/a delicious maple syrup. After our brunch, Renee offered to give us a grand tour of the place. We got to see the 2 beautiful gallery rooms and the back porch. What a wonderful place w/wonderful people! Dixie Quicks is a must try in Omaha! We’ll be back soon! Thanks for the wonderful experience!

We went to Omaha for our 14th Anniversary to go to the zoo(since it was within a few hours drive from the house) and had no idea what to eat. We saw the Guy went here and recommended it so we thought we would try it out. What a great experience we had! The service was impeccable and the food was delicious! We had the black bean quesadilla for an appetizer. The spicing was great. The tortilla was crispy and fresh with a nice crunch. The black beans and cheese melded well. Adding a little of the salsa just enhanced the experience further. I followed the appetizer with the Texas Chile Pepper Steak. While the peppers might make you think«HOT!» it was atually a nice blend with the creamy sauce on top of the steak. The home made mashed potatoes were nice and creamy and went well with the steak and the sauce. For desert, I had the chocolate cake. It was delectable! The frosting was nearly a fudge. The cake was melt-in-your-mouth moist and was a great way to top off an excellent meal. We plan to return for brunch before we leave Omaha for home. I’ll let you know how breakfast goes :)

Featured on «D3,» I had to try it. I have not been disappointed by one of Guy’s selections yet. Dixie was not the first, and moves to the best of the D3 joints I have visited. I had Blackened Salmon, Collards, Black Eyed Peas, and a starter salad. Everything was well executed. Salad of real greens that were not overdressed. BEPs are kind of tough to make stellar, and these were an acceptable level of flavor, without ruining the BEPs. The Collards were laced with hot sauce, apple cider vinegar and other goodies and were delicious. The salmon… OMG the salmon… did I mention the salmon?! Blackened with traditional blackening blend kicked up with course black pepper and pickling spices for flavor and texture… along with other nice additions such as sage and cumin. Just beautiful. Then there was the little cup of tomato butter. It looked like remoulade, so it was a muse of sorts. And it was fabulous and rich. One of the top five fish dishes I have ever eaten. Ever. And the service was top notch. The gentleman with the«tats» running the front of the house moved like a leopard between tables. Not overbearing, not neglecting. He also liked to call folks«darling» and the like. I found it very down-home. Great place that I will go back to again and again. No pretense here. Just great food and great value.

I have yet to go to DQ for dinner, but I’m hoping that day will come soon… I’ve been there for breakfast twice, and both times was very, very happy. Also both times I ordered the oats and ice cream. Don’t skip that. So far I’ve tried several dishes but my favorite is the huevos rancheros. Black beans and tortilla chips with my breakfast platter is right up my alley… but then again, so is everything here. Service is always quick and friendly and most importantly, they keep the coffee refills coming all the way through the meal. Kids(and adults such as myself) will enjoy coloring on the paper table covers. And, finally, Make Reservations.

FINALLY, we were FINALLY able to eat here. You see, we have tried, on at least five occasions to eat here. They are often closed or at least closed when we want to eat here. But I will say, it was definately worth the wait. We can in on a Sunday. Greet immediately by a woman that seemed somewhat put off that we did not have a reservation(who knew – not us). But there were plenty of tables so it didn’t really seem to be an issue. We were seated in what is not the main dining room, but it was quiet and only had one other table with diners, which was fine with us. All around there is fun stuff to look at. Lots of art and interesting people. The menu is posted on a chalkboard in the main dining room which was not great b/c I had to go stand in the dining room to read it. The tables are covered with white paper so you can color while dining. Since it was Sunday morning brunch, i chose the salmon benedict. I was trying to decide and our lovely waitress really recommended the salmon benedict. I am not a big hollandaise fan, but she said that was the best part. When it came, I was totally happy with my selection. The hollandaise was incredible. Now I wonder that I really never had good hollandaise so maybe that is why i didn’t like it. In addition, the eggs were cooked perfectly and the salmon was nice. Came with some home fries which were also good. Husband got the sausage gravy and biscuit, which is something I would have NEVER got because it is so boring. I think from his comments that it was nothing special. Mom got the catcus scramble which from the bite I had was also great. Can’t wait to go back for lunch and dinner. Doesn’t have a liquor license but you can bring in your own.
