Florence, NE is one of Omaha’s oldest communities. Often forgotten and overlooked when thinking about where to go in Omaha(think Dundee, and the revitalization of Benson), it still has a lot to offer. If you are into historic sites, there are quite a few to choose from(with more historic sites and markers than anywhere in Nebraska). The ‘Florence Mill’(1846), the ‘Bank of Florence’(1856), the ‘Florence Train Depot’(1887), the Mormon Winter Quarters of 1846, and the General Crook House in Fort Omaha(1878) nearby. If history isn’t your thing, there are outdoor activities, like a walk through Neale Woods, drop your boat in the Missouri River at Dodge Park, or enjoy the scenic views from Hummell Park. Luckily for Florence, there have been some new and interesting restaurants opening up, as well as local favorites like Zestos and Harold’s. You can also bring the family every May to celebrate Florence Days, and enjoy an old fashioned parade down 30th St.
