Movers Not Shakers

This is an updated review. For those who are not aware, my belief is that the owner is dyslexic — the actual name is Shakers Not Movers. From the way the few five star ratings are worded, my guess is they are from friends they paid to rate them.
From my experience, it is inconceivable that anyone could rate them as fast, or give high marks for customer service — unless being late, breakage and unreturned phone calls is a positive experience for you.
There are lots of choices in this town, my advice is, do your homework.
If A) you don’t like your stuff and want someone to break it for you;
B) there is someone you really don’t like and want revenge;
C) you don’t mind doing business with someone who writes bogus checks that only the County Attorney can collect on,
then Shakers Not Movers is for you.

On time efficient, friendly and fast! Not to mention strong! Had me moved in less than 3 hours and they were awesome! Priced fairly and really cared about providing me with excellent customer service!

We used Movers Not Shakers for an office move. The three gentlemen that helped us out consistently went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. They crafted organized and innovative solutions independently and in a timely manner. On behalf of attitudes shared by all in our office involved in the move, I highly recommend this conscientious and reliable business.

I’ve never had such a disastrous experience with a moving company until I hired Movers Not Shakers to handle a simple move for me.
It was supposed to be a simple move with the only large items being a twin bed and a bookshelf. The rest was just a few boxes. It was an emergency situation (I had left an abusive relationship and needed to get my things out by a certain date since the ex was threatening to throw everything away.)
A friend had recommended Movers Not Shakers so I called to explain the situation and arrange the move. The owner had offered me a discounted rate as a favor to this friend.
On the day of the move, I had emailed the owner of Movers Not Shakers asking what was going on since I had not even heard back from him about when the move was scheduled. He informed me that it was scheduled for that day. I emailed him with my new address. He emailed me back at about 2 pm saying they were an hour from my ex’s.
I waited and waited, I called and emailed and never got any response. Finally at about 9:30 pm I got an email from my ex’s mother informing me that the movers had never showed up and that this was after it had already been rescheduled several times at the mover’s request.
After having all of my phone calls and emails ignored and his voice mail being full, I finally sent the owner an email informing him that I did not want him handling my move, that I would hire another company, and that I would be reporting him to the BBB. His response was that this was not a «job», it was a favor. As far as I’m concerned, any time someone pays you to do something, it IS a job. The favor part of it was the discounted rate. And regardless of how someone heard of you, a job is a job and it should be handled in a professional and courteous manner.
The owner, Gary Jacobsen, did none of this. He did not call anyone to let us know he wasn’t coming. He ignored my calls and emails. I finally got a hold of him the next morning which was when he made the comment about this not being a job and he told me two guys would be over there that morning. I told him not to bother, that he had been fired and replaced by a professional moving company. He got snippy with me and hung up on me after I informed him that his services were no longer needed.
After having this problem, I checked around and according to the BBB website, Movers Not Shakers had received 17 complaints in the past 36 months, most of which were unresolved.
This was a completely horrible experience and the fact that he knew it was a difficult situation and that most of the items that needed to be moved belonged to my 8 year old little girl, and that if he did not complete the job as hired we would risk having all of our belongings disposed of by the ex. Ignoring my emails and calls and not even letting me know he wasn’t going to show up just made things worse. I would have appreciated a simple phone call explaining what happened and an offer to make things right. Instead I got nothing but a nasty attitude from the owner, Gary Jacobsen, as if I was being unreasonable for expecting him to show up when he was supposed to.
There is nothing professional about this company and I would strongly discourage anyone from hiring them, especially since this does not seem to be an isolated incident according to the BBB information.

I moved down the street from apartment to apartment a few years ago and since I had such a hard time getting my couches in the first apartment I decided to hire these guys. They were the most affordable and easiest to get in touch with. The only complaint I have is that they were a bit late and charged more than what they quoted, although it did take longer than we estimated. For the most part they were fast and friendly!
