Omaha

This city and state sucks complete ass! And I can say that because I was raised here! Hit a crater of a pothole on NO 72^nd in January. Got a claim form, followed the directions, got my estimates mailed it in. Get a letter from the legal department saying according to the state, Omaha IS NOT liable for the destroyed rim or tire, and the potential underbody damage, because of some draconian law they are allowed to hide behind!
Charge all this damn money annually for wheel tax, plates, registration among other things, and they can’t keep the damned streets fixed?! Now I’m on the hook for new tires and rims?!
What if I get hit by a city vehicle? Am I liable for that too?!

Scrolling through the listings I couldn’t stop myself from this one. Will S’s pic is as inspirational as it is captivating. Omaha, NE is one of the best cities I have ever been to, lived in, or heard about.
I have not traveled out of North America so I know more is out there, but seriously Omaha has it all. All without the bullshit. I have been going to Omaha, NE since finishing High school. Man has it changed since then. What used to be a thug influenced environment has now been updated with Midtown Crossing. If you want that old school feeling there is always the Salvation Army up on Cuming or the gas station there on 40^th.
Great little spots that have stood the test of time are like Olympia Cycles and Hamilton Food Mart. Lest we forget California Tacos, Robinson’s Garage, and of course JNJ grocery. Now KNJ Grocery. Good for a blunt wrap and a single 24oz beer if you need that. this general area is on the rise and rental prices show that. Marrakesh Gourmet is now in the old Firefly building and the gentrification helps.
Going to the old Market in the early days meant hanging out on 12^th street and just doing nothing. Nothing but hanging out and seeing where the day/​night was going to take you. We had places like The White Rabbit, Hip Stop (which then became Shock, a juice bar) Maybe you would be in front of Howard St Pizza or venture to Tamam, Really there was just the slides and the Arches. Only the last wto items still exist to this day and the rest have been replaced with more people friendly places like Ashley’s collectables, Zio’s, and Matsu Sushi. the locations exist in a more cohesive way to attract outsiders and hometowners.
Benson was, to me, what Omaha was envisioned to be coming from CA. A major street with a Post Office on one end and a grocery on the other. in between the endcaps It really felt like the ’60’s era. A tattoo shop and shoe store. A curious goods store and some old biker bar. Now it is one of the premier destinations for great food, music, beer, and nightlife
The location of 72/​Dodge used to be considered by some to be pretty rough and the overall collapse of Crossroads has been forseen for over a decade. The westward movement was all to prevalent in the ’90’s and a lot had been missed or neglected.
These days you can go to Village Point or Lakeside and still be in city limits.
There has always been a lot of things in Omaha and to keep this short I can sum it up rather succintly.

Location to other ‘big’ cities like KCMO, CHI, Milwaukee, or Denver
