You know, The Lord calls on us to be charitable. .. and that is what I was attempting to do when I entered this flea market! I had a couple of pairs of NICE dress shoes. One was a 20 year old pair of black shoes I had since I graduated high school, and another were a pair of brown dress loafers that I only wore maybe 2 times. Well, I decided to give them away. First I put a blurb on Facebook and tried to give them away, but nobody ever claimed them. Then I decided to go ahead and take them to the Salvation Army up the street from my former employer. When I walked in, I was baffled at the layout of this store, but I made my way around this weird maze to get to the cashier who was«tee-hee-ing» with the customer in front of me. After she was done with her, I stepped up, grinned and said«Hi». To which this —–(forgive me Lord), gave me this dead panned«MAY I HELPYOU?» So I paused, and started to just go ahead and leave, but I had other things to do so in an equally nasty tone, I said«I’D LIKETODONATETHESESHOESPLEASE — AND I NEED A RECEIPT!» I guess she didn’t like the way I gave back to her what she gave to me. .. so then she tried to be my «friend». I filled out the donor card(for the shoes), and she tried to engage me in some little conversation, you know how people do? «Soooo. .. getting rid of some old shoes huh? Wow THESEARENICE!» I just kept filling out the card and didn’t even acknowledge what she said. After she gave me my receipt she gave me this fake smile and said thank you, and I said«Yeah.» and just left. The whole point of this review is to say, when somebody is donating something to your organization, SHOWSOMEKINDOFGRATITUDE! I CANNOTSTANDRUDEPEOPLE, AND I ESPECIALLYCANNOTSTANDBADCUSTOMERSERVICE! I DIDN’T OWETHEMANYTHING! Here I am trying to do something nice for somebody who can’t afford a nice pair of new shoes, and hoping that somebody would be blessed to find some nice BRANDNEWLOOKING shoes. .. in this thrift store, and the euphoria was taken away JUSTTHATQUICK!!! The next time I donated some shoes, I took them straight to the Goodwill!

Last time I was in here this place was overrun with Creighton kids running about attempting to find silly outfits for some sort of frat party. Ick. But anyway this location has been a miss with me lately. No good clothes or records — I’ve only managed to score a couple worthwhile nicknacks here and there. I’ve also noticed that there is always quite the variety of scuzzy furniture for sale — too bad anything in reasonably good shape is overpriced and/or always has a sold tag attached to it. Still, it’s a huge store that’s worth checking out if you’re in the area with an hour to kill. I did find a nice ‘80s 10-speed bike here a while back. Still, as rusty as it was, not a great deal for $ 35.
