I stopped off here while driving from Montréal to San Francisco based on using AAA Triptik. It was slightly off the highway so took some time to actually find. The parking lot was confusing for me and quite icy from snow run off that would melt during the day and re-freeze at night. A miracle that I didn’t slip and break a bone really. When I got in shortly after 2330(after ~12 hours of driving), the front desk was empty and I could hear a child or baby shouting down the hall in addition to a slight smoking smell. I picked up the phone to catch the guy on duty and he arrived a minute later. While I waited, more baby/child screaming that echoed through the corridor. I was definitely re-considering whether to stay here or not, despite the AAA accreditation/discount. I told the guy when he did show up of my concerns and he told me that he could give me a room on the 2nd floor away from the noise. I wasn’t feeling confident about staying there, but it was a reasonable compromise since I had been driving for almost 12 hours already that day and needed the rest, not to look around for another room. The rooms aren’t rectangular due to the shape of the building — one large circle with rooms on the inside & outside, making them all slightly curved and oddly shaped. Thankfully the room didn’t smell of smoke(the hallway even on the 2nd floor did). There was a microwave to reheat pizza I had picked up on the way and free wifi(though I had to go back downstairs back to the front desk to get the ~12 digit password for the network) to catch the girlfriend on skype and update my family on my journey. TV was in a real nook due to the room shape making it impossible to watch TV from bed. Not ideal for me as I crashed pretty hard, but not necessarily ideal for you. I didn’t check what the check-out time was so I was abruptly awaken the next day at 1105 by the cleaning ladies who told me. The front desk called 2 – 3 minutes later with the same message. Time to go. I packed up my things quickly to get going — ironically the front desk area was deserted, despite their rushing me out of their strangely shaped Motel. If I had known all of this now, I would have definitely stayed somewhere else that night while passing through. Live and learn!
